TRAILBLAZERS Celebrating 65 years of initiative and innovation. We began our journey as Transcona Credit Union, the financial co-operative of CNR Shops employees. Along the way, we changed our name to Casera, but we’ve never lost our founders’ roll-up-your-sleeves-and-get-to-work attitude.

Driven by their postwar experiences of being unable to acquire loans and mortgages through banks, a group of forward-thinking tradesmen — Walter Alam, Harry Brown, Charles Burkett, Robert Davison, Arthur Everton, Eric Hansen, Thomas Herling, Walter Keen, Peter Mathewson and Michael Tomkiw — forged a credit union in the CNR Transcona Shops.

We developed Manitoba’s first walk-up teller to handle before- and after-hours transactions for busy members and their families. It was in operation until the mid-’80s when ATMs were introduced.
Recognized as the first provincial credit union to go online with an electronic financial services system, our e-network helped pave the way for automated tellers.
We became the first Manitoba credit union to feature a drive-thru ATM. In its first four days of operation, the ATM processed almost 1,000 transactions.
Manitoba’s first high school credit union, Transcona Collegiate’s Titan Credit Union, was launched by Transcona Credit Union and it has gone on to educate hundreds of students about financial literacy. Casera’s second youth branch, Lancer Credit Union, opened at Dakota Collegiate in 2015.
Casera became the first credit union in Manitoba to offer mobile banking. The convenient text-based system let members check account balances and recent transactions.
MILESTONES OF CHANGE
1973
Decisions that made a difference.
Members of Transcona Credit Union and Canadian Co-op Implements Limited (CCIL) Credit Union approved a merger, which helped strengthen our membership.
1963
In the beginning, only persons employed in the CNR Shops, their families and citizens of Transcona were allowed to be members of Transcona Credit Union. In 1963, the credit union’s bond was opened and everyone was welcome to join.
2006
After 55 years of operating as Transcona Credit Union, we changed our name to Casera Credit Union to reflect expansion to south St. Vital.

TIME-HONOURED SERVICE Our legacy of success.
We believe that a person’s character is just as valuable as their collateral. By relying on the same face-to-face service that established Transcona Credit Union’s success, Casera continues to build trust and long-term relationships with our members.

$5 INVESTMENT
Some things never change. A lot has changed over the years, but one thing that hasn’t is the $5 share. When you join Casera, you invest the same amount as our founders did 65 years ago.
