Chainstitch

The BERNINA L 220 is the ideal partner for cover- and chainstitch, ensuring a professional finish for self-sewn textiles and garments. Both the 5 mm and 2.5 mm coverstitch variants are the most usual widths for off-the-peg clothing, giving garments a professional look. The chainstitch lets you create fine seams and hem finishes for trousers and jacket pockets, as well as decorative textiles such as pillows and furniture covers. The L 220’s easy-to-use features make it the perfect choice for those who are always on the go. For more information and additional features, visit www.bernina.com/overlocker

Preface

Fresh fruits Fresh fruits always taste best, and it’s the same for new clothes – their freshness is part of the appeal. We can’t get enough of them, and wear them with delight at every opportunity. After a season, though, we forget what we teamed with the stylish jacket, can no longer find any trousers to go with the shirt, and cast around in vain for an attractive matching top for the skirt. So “new mix-andmatch” is the watchword, and is guaranteed to give your wardrobe that needed boost. Try out some new combinations and you’ll be rewarded with fresh looks. After all, missing items can always be replaced with new ideas from the current issue of Inspiration. This time around, it’s mostly minimum patterns for maximum success! Incidentally, you can also make your own fresh fruit – just have a look on page 30! Wishing you lots of fun discovering and sewing these new items, Claudia Giesser, Editor-in-Chief

Leaving for (nearby) pastures new After over five exciting and creative years as a designer in the Inspiration team, a new challenge awaits me – in February 2014, full of enthusiasm, I took over as head of the Creative Center at BERNINA headquarters in Steckborn. You hold in your hands here the last-but-one issue of Inspiration that I have worked on as a designer. Over the years, we’ve seen many great Inspiration projects produced with panache, imagination and a love of detail, and I hope you’ve enjoyed the projects as much as I have. My heartfelt thanks for your loyalty over the years. My successor Caroline Klapper is ready to take up the reins, and will be introducing herself personally in the next issue. With all good wishes, Tanja Gross, Designer

Fashion

C hains galore The summery viscose fabric with its striking chain print forms the basis of a special combination – worn together, top and trousers look like an overall, but they can also be mixed-and-matched with other items.

5910 Trousers These wide-cut trousers in airy viscose gently skim the legs. The drawstring waist makes a zip unnecessary, and sits comfortably even after a meal.

5911 Top The loop closure lends a playful note to this loosely cut top. The hip-skimming circumference is gathered with a cord.

5912 Blouson Blousons are “hip” again, and go with both the trousers and the skirt – reason enough to present you with a summer variant of this trendy garment.

Nautical Look

La vie est bell e Vintage-style blue-and-white stripes and clever fish on sleeve and tote bag will ease you into that “summer, sun and seaside” mood! 5940 Dress This simple stripy dress is perfect for an outing to the beach or open-air swimming pool. A touch of red provides a vibrant counterpoint. 5941 Bag This tote bag was decorated with a distinctly fishy trim, which your BERNINA will cut out for you in a continuous line. A large hoop such as the Mega Hoop is perfect for this. 5942 Bracelet Nine fish placed cheek-by-jowl combine here to make an original bracelet. With the help of the CutWork tool, the bracelet pops out of your BERNINA almost ready-made. Just sew on a button and it’s ready to wear! A necklace to match this nautical look can be cobbled together in no time flat from an anorak cord and buttons with large holes (Union Knopf).
