PREFACE
Chin up! Good spirits are contagious – so, unfortunately, are the grumps. Certainly, a cheerful mood seems to inspire greater creativity and a more active body and mind, as well as helping life flow more easily. Your fellow human beings will thank you for it. So head high and get on with it! Talk yourself into a good mood, and let yourself be ‘infected’ by others’ cheerfulness. Get out into the first warm days of spring and soak up the first weak rays of sunshine – it’s been proven to raise the spirits! Take this issue of inspiration along with you – it will do its bit to help lift your mood. Armed thus, you can set to work with fresh resolve, and your good mood will receive yet another boost once you can proudly show off your completed projects. And don’t be too disappointed if you can’t get hold of your favourite fabric from inspiration. Even though we always choose fabrics from wholesalers that our BERNINA dealers also use, unfortunately there is no guarantee that the fabric in question will then be in stock. Just use another fabric, and then you can be even prouder for having created a genuine one-off. And spare a thought for our international readers, who can only dream of finding this fabric somewhere – necessity is the mother of invention for them as well!
Wishing you hours of enjoyment reading and creating,
Your Editorial Team and Claudia Giesser, Editor-in-Chief

Spring brings colour, even if only one part of your outfit contains a power colour. Mixing power colours with softer shades keeps the look feminine.
With zipper foot no. 35
4616 Short jacket Whether in turquoise or coral-red, this figure-hugging little jacket lends itself to mixing-and-matching with plenty of other items. The discreet decorative stitch on the collar picks up the colour of the skirt. The transparent foot helps you follow the slight curve with especial ease. 6
4617 Pencil skirt Simple and timelessly fashionable. The hem can be embellished with a plain decorative stitch if wished. This time, we’ve got the skirt for you on the pattern sheet up to size 46.
A burst of fresh style 4616
With transparent foot
4618 With embroidery module, Mega Hoop or Jumbo Hoop
4618 Shirt with gathered embroidery The ‘gathered effect’ graphic embroidery and the many studs in different sizes are the highlight of this shirt. Those without an embroidery computer or who’d prefer to leave out the ruffle can create similar embellishments with ribbons and the studs. Of course, you could also jazz up a ready-made shirt with these decorations. 4617

ZIPS
Zippy 4622 4621
Zip fastenings in all colours and varieties don’t just belong in garments – they are ‘the’ trendy embellishment, and alongside studs, a current absolute fashion ‘must’. So save all your worn-out zips – even broken ones are welcome here. 14

4622 Shirt Even a simple shirt is transformed into a designer piece when decorated with zips.
4620 Zip bag This eyecatching floral bag is a smoking-hot accessory, a real highlight of the new season. Even if you need to purchase zips specially for it, bear in mind that (ready-made) designer bags like this one don’t come cheap! We recommend that you only attempt this project if you are the ‘creative crafting’ type, however, since the zips can be pretty awkward to work with.
With patchwork foot no. 37 or jeans foot no. 8
4621 Little bag Large or small, angular or round – whatever you use this bag for, it’s simply a ‘must have’! Here, we’ve mixed the colours fearlessly for an especially bold look. Tip You’ll find step-by-step photos on our inspiration Internet Blog to help you get to grips with the zips. 15
Nordic Chic
4640 Functional chair cover Everything’s on the spot here! Load the chair cover up with the most important things on your ‘to do’ list. Blissfully comfortable, the cover protects your chair from scratches as well as looking after your back.

Rustic linen in soft colours makes for Nordic cosiness. These harmonious, practical and durable organisers will help brighten up the most routine office chores. All appliquĂŠs can be made both in the traditional manner and with the embroidery module. Those who own the new BERNINA 830 with Jumbo Hoop will find this especially easy. With clear foot no. 39 4640

4641 Hanging file This file lets you store your letter post tidily yet accessibly, without making lots of holes in the wall. It’s not even necessary to take the file off the chain when you need something inside it.
4642 Storage box Old box no longer classy enough? Never fear, a fabric cover will make it prettier than ever, and sturdier to boot.

Retro Style
And now for something different for your kitchen. Pretty patchwork fabrics let you go stylishly ‘retro’. Amy Butler’s fabrics can be mixed and matched as it takes you fancy.
4630 Place mat This place mat with its practical cutlery pocket is guaranteed to cure the early-morning grumps!

4632 4632 Seat cushion The cushion bottom here is a real attention-getter. The fetching rosettes are hemmed with the overlocker, then gathered and sewn on. Buttons cover the centre of the rosettes.

4631 Egg warmer Well insulated, your soft-boiled eggs will stay warm for a fair bit while you’re under the shower. The lining in a contrasting colour shows at the side, since two pieces which have already been stitched together and turned are simply sewn together.
4633 Pillow covers The curves are free-motionembroidered on. Simply sketch out the curves roughly or get stuck in straightaway without a template. It’s your call whether to make the variant with the cord, or with the zigzag stitching using the BERNINA Stitch Regulator.
