Preface

N e w C h ic

No one is going around in jeans and trainers anymore. As a nod to the new fashion for neater, posher clothes, this issue features some suitable glad rags that are bound to be new to your wardrobe. Long skirts are now worn during the day, with the choice of shoes making for a more casual or dressy look – elegant with pumps, but suitable for everyday wear when teamed with sneakers. Or how about a light-and-airy embroidered cotton-with-silk dress? And if this frock isn’t chic enough for your next evening summer party, we’ve got a much posher outfit for you. We’ve kept the dress short, so the summer nights don’t feel too hot. Of course we’ve also thought of matching accessories. Whether you’re looking for a bracelet or bag, we’ve got something for everyone. Summer is also the season of roses – so why not decorate your home with rose tendrils? With your embroidery computer doing the job virtually by itself, you’ll still have enough time left over to enjoy the outdoors. What about a garden party featuring butterfly decorations? For rainy days, you can retreat to your lounge area, which we’ve completely reinterpreted for you, with newly embroidered antiquelook bar signs furnishing a suitable framework. Hardly is the summer over when it’s back to school again. Children look forward to their first day at school, an experience you might choose to sweeten – entirely without added sugar, of course – with some suitable new gear. Not quite sugar-free, however, is the jam which we’ve decked out with fetching lids. These make a jar of preserves the perfect little gift, e. g. as a thank you for a spur-of-the-moment invitation from close friends. Or make them simply to lend an attractive touch to something commonplace! Wishing you many hours of enjoyment browsing and creating, as well as a fine long summer, Your Editorial Team and Claudia Giesser, Editor-in-Chief

Don’t forget! You’ll find all i-Tips at www.bernina.com/inspiration under “News”, and the embroidery design downloads in the same place under “Downloads”.

Your choice

P ra c t ic a l There’s nothing like a comfortable outfit in which you can feel really great and look stylishly chic at the same time.

5314 Blouse shirt We sewed this shirt in jersey, but a cotton batiste would also be worth considering. The sewn-in pleats and drawstring waistband give it an airy feel and effectively hide any little lumps and bumps.

5315 Your Choice – Chinos In addition to snug-fitting jeans, chinos also have a genuine chance of rising in the fashion stakes – something that we’ve learned from our readers in our little Internet survey. The waistband pleats ensure comfort, even with non-stretch materials. The two different pockets on the back are a sophisticated touch. (The flap on the left side is just a fake pocket.) Your Choice This time, there were three trouser models from which to choose: our hands-down winner with 60 % of all votes; the calf-length model with the sporty feel; and the shorts with the wide turn-ups, which were preferred by only 15 % of all readers who voted.

5318 Summer dress The lavishly embroidered straps echo sections of the fabric pattern. The embroidery design for size 36 is available for you on our website. For other sizes, you can download the pattern for the straps from our website for further editing in the embroidery software. If doing this, you’ll need to move the designs in place in the software, according to your size. We’ve lined the slightly see-through floral fabric with an equally lightweight champagne-coloured fabric. If you use a different fabric, you may be able to dispense with a lining. 5319 Bracelet You’re sure to have a remnant of faux leather lurking somewhere about the house. And if you’ve now already got all of your embroidery things to hand, this bracelet will be a cinch to make. Simply embroider, cut out, and work in press studs. The perfect complement to the dress.

R os y t im e s Transform your dining room into a rose garden. Whether they grace your lamp, placemats or coasters, you’ll find plenty of ways to highlight these stylish flowers.

5335 Lamp decoration A plain paper lampshade is jazzed up here with rose tendrils – more or fewer depending on your taste and stamina. No worries, though – you needn’t do the cutting yourself. Your embroidery computer will gladly do the job for you! 5336 Placemat We guarantee you won’t find these elegant placemats on sale anywhere. Whilst they’re a cinch to make with the CutWork Tool, creative non-CutWork owners will also find a way to whip them up. The necessary drawings can be found on the pattern sheet. 5337 Coaster Several layers of fabric form the foundation for these rose coasters. The inside outlines were sewn over with various stitch patterns. Afterwards, the CutWork knife cuts out the finished coasters – through all the layers! The chenille effect is then achieved by vigorous brushing of the edges.

O f f t o s c ho ol ! The first day at school is an important milestone in our children’s lives. That’s why we want to help make it as enjoyable as possible. Equipped with the proper gear, they’re sure to get off to a flying start. We hope that the items below will succeed in turning that sceptical look into a smile!

5325 T-shirts Or, how to turn a plain, basic “tee” into something special in next to no time! The appliqués can be sewn in the conventional way, or alternatively with the embroidery software and embroidery module. Flaps or frills are then sewn onto the shirt for an individual look. 5326 Pencil case This pencil case makes tidying up a breeze: pens and pencils on the left, ruler and rubber on the right, and room for all sorts behind. For tuck-shop money, there’s an extra compartment. The letters were sewn in the usual way with the sewing computer. Everything can be programmed in the memory to be repeated on another occasion. 5327 Gym bag Made with love, a gym bag like this is unmistakeable. Sturdy denim fabric and rivets will help it stand up to the expected wear-and-tear of school life.
