Greeter Desk Academic Work

3

The Greeter desk was a group project designed and fabricated for the new Makerspace lab at Mount Holyoke College. This desk is made almost entirely from reclaimed materials--the only exception is the wheels and hardware. The tabletop is constructed from a previously cut down white oak tree on campus. The front of the desk is made from floorboards that were once in old dorms. The cabinet and the bench/storage shelves are constructed from maple panels discarded from academic buildings. Lastly, the handles on the cabinet drawers once belonged to windows in outdated dorm rooms. A CNC mill was used to cut the tabletop which includes a depression in the wood to designate a workspace. The desk is fixed on a swivel post that is nailed to the floor; the wheels allow the desk to rotate in when extra space is needed for events. -2019

Desk Organizer Academic Work

5

My intentions for this desk organizer was to create something that would hold and store a range of items. I picked three items that I prevalently use at my desk: headphones (overear), pencils/pens, and books/notebooks/papers. Often these items get misplaced and moved around when they are just sitting on a desk. This desk organizer has two sides (front and back) and a small side “nook”. The left front side contains the built-in pens/pencils holder. The front right side is the Triangle Desk Organizer Falere Fagoroye headphone stand. I wanted the stand to be minimalist, and to be fairly high to leave room for another item at the bottom. The back side is solely for books, notebooks, and papers, and perhaps other flat items (Kindle, iPad etc.). The desk organizer is constructed out of 3/4” pine wood using hand tools and wood working machinery -2019 Side A

CNC Chair Academic Work

7

For this project, I wanted to design a chair that required few parts ( four to six ) that was easily co llapsible for transportation, and comfortable. I was drawn to geometric shapes especially hexagonal and octagonal forms. The chair contains only six parts: the seat, two supports, the back, and two legs with armrests. The pieces The Polygon Chair Fagoroye can be held together without glueFalere with the designed joints, and this can be dismantled. In production it “snugly” fits onto the 5’ x 2.6’ plywood sheet excreting little waste. I achieved this by designing the legs, back support, and armrests so they are all tied into one shape. Materials used are 3⁄4” Baltic Birch Plywood, and the CNC router. -2019 Top View

JOKO Market in Northern Thailand Academic Work

9

The objective for this design project was to create a multipurpose market space that is inviting to the community surrounding Joko. An agricultural community in Nan Provence, Northern Thailand. The space will contain a market, a coffee shop, and a seed library, all to be operated by the Joko farmers. The design approach channels the pentagon on the Joko logo. There are fives differently sized spaces, each in pentagon form: a large, a medium, and a small space for the market; a medium space for the coffee shop; and a small space for the seed library. The spaces are a simple design and open with low walls, it is both inviting and will allow for adequate air circulation in the tropical Thai environment.

Concept Diagram

Market Seed library Coffee shop

The market is intended to be an opportunity for farmers to sell their goods at their own agency; This will benefit Joko’s economy substantially. Likewise, the coffee shop will do the same while creating social interactions and connections with the Joko community and potential visitors.

The materials used will likely be bamboo as its highly flexible and a sustainable material; bamboo can also be woven together tightly to create surfaces. Nonetheless, bamboo is a strong material (stronger than wood), that would be able to with stand the heavy monsoons and rainfall in this environment.

The seed library is meant to be and educational tool for the farmers, and like the seed library, to create relationships with the community. All spaces will face the road side, where people arrive, except the coffee shop which will be facing the site. -2018

Barcelona Pavillion Expansion Renderings Academic Work

13

The objective for this project was to design expansion for the existing Barcelona Pavillion designed by Mies Van Der Rohe. The addtions are a private space and a Library/public space. The new designs maintain the materiality of the current space: travertine, green marble, glass, and red onyx. Instead of being seperate entities, the additions appear seamlessly connected to the pavillion at both the front and the back. I wanted for this expansion to be a natural continum of the existing space. -2018 *previous page: Exterior rendering of private space

Thai Lanna Screen Academic Work

15

The purpose of this project was to recreate a Thai Lanna screen found in traditinal Lanna culture. These screens are used for ornamenting and accenting in interior spaces. The screens are typically wood carved and incorporate elements of flowers, and other national vegetation. My design was inspired by the Thai Arudina flower, and precedents of Lanna screens. This screen recreation was designed with a laser cutter on butterboard. -2018

This was project completed as an Exhibition Design Intern at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. During this internship I assisted the lead designer with design development for an upcoming exhibit. I worked specifically on spatial planning, arrangement of artifacts, and color. The concept for the design is an exhibtion with mini gallery rooms that visitors will walk through. Each gallery room has a question at the front that examines pivotal moments in American history. Visitors are to walk inside and to think about the question in relation to the grouped artifacts. -2019
