Cloudy2Clear, A Local Family Service With A Smile I think we can all agree that the sooner we see the back of 2020 and this dreadful Corona Virus the better. That said, there are also some heart warming positives that we can take out of this situation. It has often been said that we can only really get to know one another and realise what is truly important in times of crisis. I think few would argue that in this case what has proven to be important is local community spirit and family. When talking to Trevor & Wendy Skidmore the owners of Cloudy2Clear Northampton & Oxford it became clear that these
values have been held for over 13 years. Since buying the local franchise in 2006 they have remained true to their core values of supporting the local community whilst introducing their 2 sons Lloyd & Ross into the family business along with Dan, Mark & Jo as demand for their service has grown.

W h a t s h o u l d I l o o k fo r i n a c o nveya n c e r ? Buying or selling a property can be a stressful process, but there are some easy steps you can take to help to make the conveyancing process as smooth and as calm as possible. Reputation and client satisfaction Take time to research your solicitor or conveyancer. Recommendations by professionals, friends or family are a good starting point. Visit the solicitor’s website and if they have client testimonials, have a read through. Some firms have profiles, photos and contact details of their conveyancers, so you can be reassured who you will be dealing with. Law firms may also be accredited with The Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS), providing evidence of a recognised quality standard. Transparent costs Like with most services, you will probably want to get 2 or 3 quotes for your conveyancing work. Make sure you are comparing like-for-like quotes, that you see a breakdown of the fees and that these are
transparent and fixed from the outset. Regular communication Property conveyancing is often dependent on a ‘chain’ and complications can arise that may hold the process up, so it is important your conveyancer keeps you informed of developments as they happen. When choosing your conveyancer, check how they will be communicating with you, for example, ask if they have direct dial and email, and can you check the progress of your matter online 24/7. If you would like to talk to Spratt Endicott Solicitor’s team of property experts in Brackley about buying or selling a property, please contact Terena Barnacle, Head of Brackley office on 01280 730882 or email tbarnacle@se-law.co.uk

In 1990 the National Health Service decided that the much-loved Brackley Cottage Hospital was no longer viable and needed to be closed. The residents of the town and its surrounding villages, however, had other ideas, and, spearheaded by the then Town Mayor of Brackley, George Britchfield, an ambitious project began to “save the Cottage”. A charitable trust, of which George became the first chairman, was set up to run the hospital thanks to public donations, subscriptions and legacies. There were some private nursing home beds and others which were rented to the NHS for intermediate care. In spite of many pressures, this continued for 25 years until it proved impossible to recruit sufficient trained permanent staff to ensure the safe working of the hospital, and a sad decision was taken to close its doors on 31 March 2015. The trustees had hoped to keep the Cottage open until those intermediate care beds could be reprovisioned in a new NHS facility, something which the town had long hoped for and which had, for many years, proved to be tantalisingly so near on many occasions and yet, ultimately, so far away. This original aspiration proved to be not possible; however, eventually in 2018, the dream started to become reality. A site was identified off Northampton Road and a large-scale project was undertaken to construct a building which would house the Brackley Medical Centre (one of Brackley’s two GP surgeries) as well as outpatient services offered to the town by neighbouring NHS trusts in Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire. Building began in the spring of 2019 and completion was anticipated within 15 months. We were looking at an opening – we thought – in May 2020, but then Covid struck. Building work was not completely halted: those tradesmen who could travel safely to the site and could work alone, thus maintaining social distancing, could continue. Certain tradesmen could not if they worked for sub-contractors who chose to furlough their staff. Additionally, some of the materials that were on order were reassigned to the Nightingale hospitals. The building was completed and it was opened in part in November 2020; the GP surgery moved in very quickly and has been followed by certain of the outpatient services. For the town of Brackley and the surrounding 18
Brackley Community area, one of the most important assets of this new building is the provision on the second floor of 16 intermediate care (step-down or step-up) beds, thus finally achieving the ambition of restoring to the community the facility long provided by the Cottage. It is hoped that the first patients will be installed at the end of March 2021. In the autumn of 2019, a new charitable organisation was set up, the Brackley Community Hospital 2020 Trust: this body manages the substantial public funds that have been raised – largely through self-starter projects and individual initiatives – with the purpose of enhancing those services and facilities which are provided by the National Health Service. It is important to stress that the hospital is an NHS facility and is in no way private. Nothing that is charitably funded would not have been onsite – eventually. The charity has just aimed to hasten the process along. Public fund-raising, together with a substantial grant from the Brackley Hospital Trust (the old Cottage), has reached in excess of £180,000 and has ensured that, instead of a second-hand portable and basic x-ray machine, the building will have a digital state-of-the-art x-ray machine with fixed bed. Funds are already in hand for Smart television sets in each of the 16 rooms, enabling communication between patients and families and consultants, and these sets will be free at the point of use. Comfortable chairs for patients and visitors are being procured, to a variety of specifications so that they can offer, additionally, therapeutic benefits. Also on the list is an ultra-sound scanner which will have an inbuilt facility for use by visiting cardiologists, and the Trust will contribute, as and when required, towards equipment for a number of other departments. The hospital will bring

y Hospital 2020 Trust consultants to the patients rather than the other way round and is a 21st-century facility for a growing community. It has proved its worth already as a vaccination centre for Covid and that is just the start of things. Our thanks go to everybody who has contributed thus far in any way towards the success that is Brackley Community Hospital. Support continues to be appreciated and will continue to be required for many years to come as our needs become more complex and our hospital gives back more and more to the local community.

Spotlight on Counselling Covid-19 has brought us many emotional challenges that have touched many. Feelings usually include anger, anxiety, bereavement, regret and shame where so many have died. Now add guilt, loss, isolation, trauma where perhaps your past remains in your here and now. Families and partner relationships have been under the microscope and faults within have emerged, perhaps. Physical symptoms can include panic attacks, IBS and Fibromyalgia – the body keeps the score. With lock-down no. 3 being gently eased, it’s true – it might happen again creating within you a sense of dread which stops you from being happier and stuck. This is where counselling can help where you are really listened to with someone who doesn’t judge and is able to walk in your shoes, able to help you emotionally grow and flourish like the spring blossoms which can become your true self.

Counselling is a journey to future happiness which can last for a long time. Sometimes, you may only need one session, or six or more. What’s important is that you and your compassionate counsellor connect. Please, when you are ready and feeling courageous to reach out, check that any counsellor is professional, a member of the BACP, NCS or UKCP. Always good to talk. Counselling changes lives. Go well and know you are special. Sarah Dean.

Patience, they say, is a virtue.... Patience, they say, is a virtue. It certainly is for those of us chomping at the bit to get out and doing in the garden. But this April, try and have a slow one, no rush, and you could be rewarded. Over the last year many new gardeners have discovered the peace and enjoyment a few plants and a 10% DISCOUNT for over 70’s
cared for garden can give. With restrictions easing the best place to be social is in your own outdoor space and consequently there is a shortage of outdoor furniture and greenhouses. Those with orders in the queue or are looking to place orders will have to learn the art of patience. Then there are those of us who get a sudden rush to the head in a garden centre, wanting to buy everything that’s in flower. Stop. Exercise some self-restraint. Not only could that new stock be grown on in very comfy conditions and turn up its toes at a mild frost in your garden, if you

A wise person once said to go plant shopping through the year so your garden will have interest all year round. I adore spring so I do have a lot of spring interest and a border dedicated to the season. Flowering cherries are just wonderful. Pick one with autumn colour too such as Prunus sargentii or Beni Yutaka and you have a great garden-worthy tree. Of course there are bulbs, daffodils, anemones, little jewel like scillas as

Brackley Town Football Club...
Modern and well appointed facility
Following curtailment of the National League North season in mid-February, intense efforts have been taking place to find a way to complete the season. Various proposals have garnered support from different quarters including an option for those clubs in National League North and National League South wishing to play on to combine in a mini-league. With spectators not permitted to attend games the Premier League and higher divisions soldier on supported by TV and sponsorship monies. At Tier 6 however, Brackley
Town’s level of football, spectator revenue in the ground on a match-day is everything and without this all clubs have struggled.
It appears that the efforts to resurrect the playing season will falter and hope for the return of action on the pitch will rest with the new season kick-off in August. Meanwhile, there remains plenty of activity taking place to continue to develop facilities at St James Park and prepare for the new season. Of prime importan ce is the project to complete the new clubhouse. This is due for completion in May
and it will provide not just a modern and well appointed facility for supporters on match-days but an impressive addition to facilities for the whole community of Brackley. It will be the prime events centre for the growing town, available for hire and hosting music, comedy and social events. As lockdown measures begin to ease junior football and girls’ Wildcats activities resume. All details are on the club website. Football is looking up!

HUGE STEP FORWARD FOR BRACKLEY AND SOUTH NORTHANTS
With the start of the New Year comes a fantastic new start for youth work in Brackley and South Northants. Two new members of staff will start with local charity South Northants Youth Engagement (SNYE). We will be working hard to ensure that young people have got the support they need and a voice to say how they want their futures to be as we emerge from this pandemic which has had a huge impact on young people’s mental health1 their education hugely disrupted. SNYE want to ensure that there are places where young people can safely engage in the social activities they have been missing. Youth clubs and drop in spaces give young people a place to ask questions and explore topics that they can’t always discuss at home. Most importantly they are places to make friends and have fun something we have all come to appreciate. If you would like to volunteer and get involved with the work of this exciting young charity, then please look on the website for opportunities. Penny Embden will be the Youth Engagement Co-ordinator. Her role will be to identify new youth work opportunities and provide networking and promotional support to existing groups. Penny will be using her expertise in the arts to develop opportunities for young people, bringing together organisations and individuals who want

Loggers2 is open to any young person living in South Northants. It will be a fun, safe place for young people who live in some of the more remote parts of our district its based in Towcester Youth Coffee House and she will helping support a youth club once restrictions reduce. Cllr Sue Sharps Brackley Town Council said ‘I’m thrilled that we are able to announce two dedicated Youth Workers for Brackley, Towcester and the surrounding villages. Youth work transforms young people’s lives through the expert support they provide in areas such as physical, emotional and mental well-being. This is fantastic news for Brackley as the town grows parents and young people have professionals to whom they can turn. I’m very proud of the work done so far by SNYE for the youth of the County.
