Just some of our clients' thoughts on our services below- read more at www.pc-help-4u.co.uk/testimonials “PChelp4U has been a great help to me and I agreed to pay a modest sum each month . Matthew firstly called to assist me with various problems and when I have needed advice Benjamin has been most kind and helpful on the telephone. I am at present in South Africa and feel confident that my computer is behaving very well thanks to the help that I have had and it is a great relief that I am still in contact around the world. I have been happy to recommend PChelp4U to colleagues." - David W Smith, Finmere, Buckingham “I have no interest in technology and have no wish to understand it. I know I need to have it and use it in the modern world. PChelp4U came in, took away my old laptop, saved all my files, recommended a new laptop, transferred all my files but without all the bugs and problems I had been experiencing. They gave me training to use a new system. They take the stress out of it all. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are very, very good at what they do and I would never use anyone else. 12 months later – everything works like a dream!" - Ruth Ash, Buckingham “My home office workstation has served me well over the past 5 years, and I had two choices, buy a new one and transfer the data, or give my PC a new lease of life. I decided to go for the latter (I have a fear transferring data and as a transport conversion engineer I have some very valuable work) and saw PChelp4U in the MK18 business services magazine and contacted them. Ben was my sole contact and provided a service, whereby he took away my machine and returned it three days later – absolutely first class. My laptop will be next I suspect. I have no reservations in recommending PChelp4U. Thank you.” - Brian Eldridge, Buckingham

C h o o s i n g a Fa m i ly L aw ye r Few people consult a family lawyer before they need to do so and, for that reason, the process of choosing one to support and represent you at a difficult and stressful time can feel rather rushed. Many of our clients come to us through recommendation from a family member, friend or work colleague, but a significant number will look for a family lawyer through local publications, organisations or the internet.

When choosing a family lawyer, we would recommend looking for one who can demonstrate experience and expertise of your specific circumstances, provide a clear indication of the likely costs involved in your matter, and be relied upon to communicate well and give regular updates on the progress of your case.

Divorce, separation and issues around children are often emotional, complex and can take time to resolve. This is why it is vital to choose a solicitor that you feel will provide you with the best level of service and support and one who understands your situation.

Spratt Endicott Solicitors offer clients a fixed fee initial meeting at ÂŁ95 (including VAT) at any of our four offices in Banbury, Brackley, Bicester or Buckingham. For more information please contact Harry White on 01295 204154 or email hwhite@se-law.co.uk.

Has self-care become stressful?

I was recently invited to join a panel of experts to speak to a group of business women about self-care around running a business. What I quickly discovered was that this new trend of having a ‘self-care’ plan came with a list of ‘shoulds’. We SHOULD meditate, we SHOULD go to the gym, join a yoga / pilates class, study mindfulness. These amazing women were following self-care plans that weren’t necessarily things they enjoyed doing, they were following in the power of the ‘SHOULD’. It left me thinking, as a promoter of self-care, that maybe we need to encourage each other to make small changes so that self-care slots in and becomes an escape rather than adds to our to do list. So here are some suggestions: 1. Sit to eat your meals. Many parents and carers are filling the dishwasher, cleaning up, putting washing on, all while their children eat the meal that has been prepared. Give yourself permission to sit, eat and enjoy your meal with the family. 2. Increase your water intake by linking it to something else you do regularly. Every time you boil the kettle, pour a glass of water and drink it all. 3. Breathe through your nose. It may feel unfamiliar, but that’s ok as it’ll make you focus just on breathing. Remember, the nose is for breathing and the mouth is for kissing. 4. Establish a good bed time routine, leave your phone downstairs or putting it on airplane mode.

Everything’s coming

I was listening to the radio the other day and a fact was given out that really surprised me, writes Buckingham Garden Centre’s Chris Day. According to a news report the UK fresh cut flower and indoor plant market is now worth £2.2 billion at retail level. To put this in perspective, the UK music industry is worth around £2 billion. This is pretty staggering considering this equates to an average spend per person per year of £36 (£28 on flowers and £8 on indoor plants). We love our flowers as much, if not more, than our music! The popularity of houseplants fuelled by the millennials is well observed and great news showing a regained interest in all things green, variegated, orchid, cacti and flowering exotics. One flower that shares the best of

both worlds, horticulturally speaking, is of course the rose. Indoor potted roses are grown to perfection in Holland using the latest in computer controlled growing systems with clever roller benching and even robotic spacings of the plants on the bench. The cut flower Rose is now grown globally and transported in millions. Even the doyen of British roses,– David Austin, has cut flower production nurseries in South Africa where their amazing blooms are jetted to all corners of the globe. Best of all, the roses we use for our beds, borders, walls, pergolas, fences and pots are as popular as ever, helped along I’m sure in part by our more compact gardens where roses can give great flowering value over many months. When roses were popular back in the 1950s, homeowners would give them space to create a purpose designed rose bed. These usually had a single variety and were often edged with either Catmint (pictured with Rose ‘Teasing Georgia’) or Box to enclose the area. I know when my parents moved

house when I was around 8 years old their new garden simply contained roses, all beautifully nurtured and labelled. If memory serves me correctly, there were over 80 roses, grown by Fryers, was a ‘tour de force’ rose grower based in Knutsford, Cheshire. Today roses are multi-tasking plants which we use as part of the mix to our garden plan. They are often used liberally in mixed borders to provide structure and a framework to other plants such as perennials, bulbs and groundcover which they can be associated with. They have a starring role in our smaller plots as we can use them to clothe our walls and fences, climb and scramble up arbours and across pergolas. For hedging, the native Rosa rugosa (pictured ‘Roseraie de L’Hay’) takes some beating where the single blooms are followed by attractive hips – much loved by the local wildlife.

Beales Classic Roses. Also there are a number of growers specialising in standard varieties of Hybrid Tea, Floribunda (now correctly called cluster-flowered), Climbers, Ramblers, Patio and Groundcover types. Many of these have been given a modern twist with improved reliability as far as repeat-flowering ability, disease resistance and colour development. So, how do you keep your roses healthy? The key through the summer months is feeding and watering. Top rose growers Peter Beales Classic Roses say it quite simply; “Roses are very hungry plants and should therefore be fed regularly throughout their lives to ensure maximum blooms and growth, from first year plants through to 50-yearold ramblers. We recommend a good feed of a nitrogen high feed like Top Rose after the late-winter prune in February, then feeding every two weeks throughout the flowering period with a high potash feed like

Tomorite. Simply dilute to half the strength recommended on the bottle for Tomatoes.” Roses also require regular watering, especially during the summer. It is very hard to over water a rose, but they will not appreciate having their roots sit in cold water for long periods. Roses grown in pots should be given a good water daily throughout the growing season. During the summer newly planted roses will also need watering regularly until their roots are established. As well as putting the plant under stress, insufficient watering can also contribute

Vincent Landscapes of Buckingham

to the development of rose diseases, especial mildew. We have seen a fair few aphids so far this year so you may need to spray to keep numbers down. Organic sprays such as Solabiol Bug Free, which is based on fatty acid soaps, is good, especially if you have a fair number of ladybirds around as you should encourage these natural aphid controllers. However, if you need to control sap-sucking aphids but also deal with any fungal diseases such as Mildew, Rust and

Blackspot (pictured) you may need to resort to using chemical control by applying Rose Clear Extra. To ensure you keep your roses displays blooming throughout the summer and early autumn it is important to regularly deadhead your roses. By deadheading you will encourage repeat-flowering – this stops your rose producing seeds in the hips, which are formed after flowering, so that it has more energy for repeat-flowering. The label on your rose should state whether it is a repeat bloomer – most popular bush varieties are and certainly the latest David Austin and Peter Beales Classic roses generally are too. The other reason to trim and remove spent blooms is the opportunity to shape your shrub. This is important in a mixed border if you need to allocate a defined area to a plant and to trim it back to keep it within bounds. The process of deadheading is simple and should be done as soon after each flower fades as possible up to late September. After September it is unlikely that you will get much more growth or flowering, as your plant will be getting ready for winter. A brief guide to deadheading is to cut the stem at an angle of 45 degrees just above a bud pointing the way you want future growth and above a five-leaf set. The amount you cut back controls, to some extent, the shape and size of your plant. If you are unsure, cut back to the

point where the flowers stop being produced on the stem. If you have deadheaded a rose bush and it is a repeat-flowering variety then it would be perfect to give the plant another feed to help stimulate more flowering wood and a further flush of blooms. At the height of summer when new growth is plentiful you should have further flowers appearing 3-4 weeks after the first flush and this process will be greatly enhanced by further watering during dry spells. Finally mulching is always best carried out in the early part of the year (Feb/March) or the autumn. If you can sufficiently moisten the soil around the rose planting area when planting and then apply a generous a 5cm (2in) layer of chipped bark this will help retain moisture, suppress any weed growth thus providing the rose with a good start.
