FLEXIBLE DRAWDOWN PENSION What is it? It is a way of taking income from a personal pension fund without taking an annuity. What is the new option? Flexible Income Drawdown allows UNLIMITED withdrawals from the pension fund, subject to : 1) pension policy permits it, 2) the individual has a ‘guaranteed lifetime annual income’ of minimum £20k p.a (current Government rules) ‘Guaranteed lifetime annual income’ that counts towards the minimum £20k p.a are: State pensions, company defined benefit (final salary) schemes, scheme pensions and existing lifetime annuities. What are the benefits? 1) Unlimited access to pension funds. 2) Inheritance Tax advantages, ie pension funds will not be liable to Inheritance tax on the death of the policy holder. What are the disadvantages? 1) 55% tax charge on lump sum pension death benefits. (previously these charges ranged from 35% to 82% depending on age) Scenario Julie has £50k in a deferred money purchase personal pension, she qualifies for a full state pension of £102.15
4
pw (2011/2012) and has benefits within a final salary company pension of £16,500p.a. Pre-April 2011, Julie would have needed to buy an annuity before the age of 75 with the £50k or taken income directly from the fund using older income drawdown rules and government guidelines. Under the new Flexible Income Drawdown rules Julie could access her pension funds in a much more flexible way. What this means is that the more flexible income drawdown pension is more accessible to more people. Clearly, a flexible income drawdown plan could provide additional retirement options for some individuals, however it is definitely not suitable for everyone, nor can everyone actually take advantage of it. This article has only given basic information relating to flexible income drawdown schemes and there are many other rules and regulations that need to be considered and without doubt this should be discussed with a financial adviser to ensure that it is the right course of action for you. If you would like advice on the above or on any other financial matter, just call me. I will be pleased to help: ALAN KENT of Scottsdale Consulting Mob: 07948 001849 www.scottsdaleconsulting.co.uk Reg in England No: 4627921 Scottsdale Consulting Ltd, an appointed representative of Intrinsic Wealth Management, a trading style of Intrinsic Financial Planning Ltd, authorised & regulated by the FSA.Intrinsic Financial Planning Ltd, FSA register http://www.fsa.gov.uk/register/ Ref: 440703.

SECOND CHANCE FOR OLYMPICS TICKETS Were you one of the lucky ones? We hope so but if you did not get the Olympics 2012 tickets that you applied for, then you join the likes of London Mayor Boris Johnson, and Olympic hopefuls Tom Daley and Chris Boardman. It’s estimated that at least one in seven households who applied for tickets did not receive a single seat. However, all is not lost. Those people who did not receive any tickets will be given priority when tickets are re-released later this year. There are apparently a good number of seats still available for early rounds of basketball, hockey, and shooting events and these, together with any other empty seats, will be resold later this year on a first come, first served basis.

SHOP LOCAL FIRST With small independent shops continuing to disappear from our local high streets, it’s more important than ever to reexamine your own shopping habits and to support your local shops.
SHOP LOCAL
Local shops boost the local economy, provide genuine choice and are a good environmental option. Local shops keep money circulating in the local area so they support other local businesses.
Support your local shops The most important thing you can do to save your local shops is to buy more from your local shops choosing local products wherever possible. Of course, local shops can also do their bit to help themselves. Offering fantastic customer service, a good range of products, and variety across the high street will help draw customers in. A smile, a friendly word, and unbeatable service does wonders to develop your customer base! Jen Oakton

HOLIDAY COUNTDOWN BEAUTY TIPS Before you jet off somewhere fabulous, here are a few must-do beauty treatments! • A pedicure is an absolute must as you’ll be showing off your feet in sandals. If you do your own pedicure, don’t scrub off too much skin – leave a little build up to protect your feet. • Defuzz. Time your waxing so that there’s no unsightly re growth during your trip. • Get your skin in top condition before a dehydrating flight with a facial to top up moisture. Exfoliate your body to get a great base for a tan. • Have a hair cut before you go but then don’t worry too much about styling on holiday. Use a spray hair protector though. • Keep holiday make-up to a minimum. A pre-holiday permanent mascara or eye liner treatment will keep you looking great on the beach. • Treat yourself to a manicure, choosing a luscious holiday shade, before you go. Jen Oakton
