“Before I joined Best Buddies, I was always home. Now that I have a job, I’m more out in my community. Since I’ve been working at Marshalls, I’ve been speaking more clearly, and speaking up for myself. I’m more independent, and I know how to get around on the bus.

Jobs

Best Buddies is a wonderful organization that helps people find jobs, and the job coaches are great. They check up on you and see how you’re doing. Even though they’re not blood family, they’re like family to me.”

Sharlisha Johnson

Jobs program participant, TJX

“Best Buddies is good about listening to people and matching them up with the type of employment they are looking for. I’m a facility coordinator in the Boston area and find the experience rewarding.  Thanks to Best Buddies, I enhanced my resume, I can create a development plan in my workplace and socialize with my co-workers.”

Why I Ride

“Participating in the ride and in BB programs has helped not only our 27-year-old son develop lifelong friendships but has also helped our family grow in more ways than you can imagine. It has enriched the lives of our two daughters who have become president and secretary of our local high school BB chapter. It introduced our extended family to the idea of being more accepting and inclusive of intellectually disabled individuals. I ride so that BB programs will continue to enhance the lives of families and individuals”.

2019 is the 20th anniversary of Best Buddies Challenge: Hyannis Port! The first Challenge was held in 1999, when Best Buddies Founder Anthony K. Shriver, an avid cyclist, was inspired to create an amazing event that would bring people together to “cycle, support and celebrate” — all for Best Buddies’ mission of inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Celebration

At the celebratory clambake, hip-hop artist Flo Rida rocked the crowd and brought Best Buddies participants on stage to sing with him — a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
