✶ DICKENSON BAY, ANTIGUA If you can't find the perfect beach in Antigua, you might as well give up. Antigua is blessed with an abundance of bounty advert beaches but most of the action is to be found at Dickenson Bay where you can swim, snorkel, sail, fish and dive – or simply soak up the sun.
Beyond the beach, cricket fans will want to try and take in a Test match at the St Vivian Richards Stadium – the Caribbean is crazy about cricket and Antigua especially so.
✶ IPANEMA BEACH, RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL Rio de Janeiro boasts a pair of famous beaches, Ipanema and Copacabana, but it’s the former — celebrated in the bossa nova hit The Girl from Ipanema’ that captivates visitors owing to its place gold sand and landmark emerald peaks that are known as the two brothers.
Regardless of where you to choose to stretch out your beach towel, expect to see Cariocas (aka residents of Rio) from all walks of life coming together to get their groove on. ✶ HORSESHOE BAY, BERMUDA Bermudians are at pains to point out that their island isn’t actually in the Caribbean. Still their beaches are of a Caribbean quality – none more so than Horseshoe Bay whose pinks sands are, as the name suggests, shaped like a horseshoe.
Horseshoe Bay has a lifeguard on duty from May- September (Bermudians won’t venture into the sea before Bermuda Day on May 24) and also offers a cafe, changing facilities and an annual sand castle competition.

✶ SEVEN MILE BEACH, CAYMAN ISLANDS You could visit Grand Cayman and never leave stunning Seven Mile Beach (SMB), so seductive is its stretch of unbroken white sand. Popular with beachgoers of all ages, it’s also a great place to people watch: expect to see couples strolling hand in hand and 50 something women, their flesh spilling over their bikinis, power strut past hard core surfer dudes.
Of course no visit to Cayman is complete without seeing some stingrays: at Stingray City, the island’s most famous residents sweep across white sand flats in the shallows.
✶ BOULDERS BEACH, SOUTH AFRICA Want to see penguins on a beach? Make a beeline for Boulders Bay, an easy hour's drive from Cape Town, and you can see 3,000 of them to be precise. In addition to penguins, expect to see colonies of seals, pods of dolphins and if you’re lucky – whales.
Back in Cape Town proper, check out Camps Bay. Backed by the craggy Twelve Apostles mountain range, Camps Bay invariably aracts gorgeous, long limbed locals who come here in their droves for a sundowner on Saturdays and Sundays.

✶ LAS GALERAS, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC Found at the furthest point of the Samana Peninsula, Las Galeras is oen overlooked owing to its ‘off the beaten track’ location. But don’t be deterred; the area boasts some of the best beaches in the Dominican Republic making it well worth any extra effort involved.
Playa Rincon is particularly captivating, managing to stun even the most jaded of traveller. You can rent beach chairs, refuel in one of the restaurants and then work off the calories by saddling up and going on a horse ride, snorkelling or diving.

✶ BORACAY, PHILIPPINES No visit to the Philippines is complete without spending some time on Boracay whose he pristine beaches and balmy waters provide a welcome escape for weary travellers. Yes, grass-roofed, fixed umbrellas are everywhere. And yes, hawkers do patrol the beach looking to sell their cras.
But it’s still possible to secure a stretch of sand for yourself, sele back and enjoy the unhurried pace of life. Some whinge that Boracay has become commercialised – resorts, restaurants and bars are popping up all over the island – but for now at least, Boracay still lags way behind any of its Thai equivalents, as far as rampant development goes

✶ LONG BAY, JAMAICA Want to hit the beach and bars? Then Long Bay (a gorgeous 11km long stretch of sand also known as Seven Mile Beach) is the name you need to know.
The sun splashed shores are a powerful lure for most during the day – including the hawkers and hustlers who patrol the beach selling their wares. Nights meanwhile, are for enjoying the tropical party lifestyle; as the sun sets, reggae (well you are in Bob Marley country) and rum, rule.
✶ PANTAI CENANG, LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA Langkawi is the lynch pin of Malaysia’s tourism and understandably so. Sure, it isn’t the place for schlepping around historical buildings, museums and galleries, but if all you want to do is fly and flop, look no further than Langkawi and it’s unbeatable beaches.
Take your pick from Pantai Tengah, Pantai Kok and, our favourite, Pantai Cenang. Langkawi’s longest and most famous beach hugs the island’s western coast and boasts so sand lined with coconut trees. Beachgoers can rent a sun bed for a few ringgits before cooling off in the calm water

✶ YALONG BAY, HAINAN, CHINA Keep it under your hat, but there’s more to China than the Temple of Heaven and Terracoa Warriors. The island oasis of Hainan that sits on the same latitude as Hawaii hasn’t received the recognition it deserves, having only been opened to visitors roughly 25 years ago. As a result, it’s not as fashionable as other beach destinations, but who cares?
Dadonghai Bay and Sanya Bay are both fine spots for those who want to fly and flop but, budget permiing, aim to base yourself 15km east at exclusive Yalong Bay. The beach here is the best and, unless you’re mad enough to go over Chinese New Year, it’s virtually empty. Relax on sand the colour of sugar in between cooling dips in the sky blue water, admire the colours in your cocktail delivered by a smiling waitress and allow Yalong’s slack pace to work its subtle, inexorable magic

They’re the stretchiest shorts you’ll ever wear Whether you’re a kitesurfer or a yogi, there’s literally no move you can pull where these shorts will restrict you. If you were holding a metre of this fabric, you’d be able to stretch it to 1.5 metres in any direction, and as soon as you let go it would instantly return to its normal shape thanks to the huge amount of elastane we’ve used. Stronger and more durable than rubber, the more elastane you blend with another material the stretchier it becomes. These shorts are 34% elastane making them unbelievably stretchy.
Built from compression fabric, they’re crazily resilient and strong The material we’ve used was originally designed for compression gear so it’s incredibly strong. We’ve simply laser-cut it into the shape of non-compression gear. The strength of the material remains identical but you have none of the pressure on your muscles. Every inch of fabric has been knied by 40 needles, so unlike normal knied fabrics it’s incredibly dense. This means that on abrasion tests, which show you how fast you could destroy something on coral reefs or a dirt track, it scores 5 out of 5 for toughness.

We’ve gone back to the Stone Age and used a plant-based technology that penetrates deep into the fibres and makes water simply slip off the surface. The same tech makes them fast-drying out of the water, and when you want to hang them up to dry you’ll find a reinforced drying loop just above the waistband. Constructed with only one seam and no expense spared Built with just one bonded seam our Ocean Shorts represent a radical leap forward in engineering. Normal brands use lots of stitched seams even though they chafe your legs as it’s the cheapest option. These shorts have only one seam, and it’s bonded – which means it’s glued with an incredibly high heat. Even when they’re wet they hold their shape A lot of shorts simply look bad when they’re wet, even though they’re designed for water – they either cling to you or billow out like a jellyfish wrapped round your legs. So we’ve engineered these shorts to look as good on you when they’re wet as they do when they’re dry. The boom hem of each leg is laser cut then reinforced with bonded tape to give it enough weight to hold its shape however soaked you are and stop the shorts clinging to you. a streamlined back pocket with water escape holes Even the rear pocket is designed to operate in the simplest way possible. Big enough to hold your phone, card and keys on land, or a GPS in the water, there are two laser cut holes in the pocket with welded edges that allow water to drain at high speed rather than billowing up with air. The pocket is fastened with a rubberised zip that’s lockable and housed in its own zip garage, so once it’s done up it won’t come undone.

Strips of silicone keep the shorts locked on you The shorts are rope tied and have a Velcro fly, so there’s nothing that can cut into you or your board. The rope has rubberised ends and is woven through laser cut holes which have been welded for extra strength. On the inside of the waistband you’ll find two silicon strips that run the entire circumference of the shorts in two channels built into an elastic tape. They grip your skin and keep your shorts secure. And the more you sweat the more they grip. Wear the soest material on earth Good design maers, even when you can’t see it. And it maers even more when it’s next to your balls. The shorts’ inner lining is made with one of the highest grade and lightest materials on earth – an Italian mesh fabric that’s so so and comfortable we’ve already made entire t shirts and baselayers out of it for our Black Light range.
