Welcome to the first post-lockdown issue of our magazine. We are SO pleased to be back, after 18 years of continuous monthly publishing it feels very odd to have missed four months. Like many of our local businesses though, we decided that we didn’t just want to settle for the ‘new normal’, rather we were looking to create the ‘new special’. And this magazine that you read today is the result of our efforts, bringing not just the best from your own patch (which you may feel you have seen rather a lot of lately!) but also exploring the whole region in which you shop, explore and relax. This is our region, with its quintessential market towns, honeycoloured stone, the Welland and the Nene rivers running through it and Rutland Water at its heart. And the magazine is much thicker and glossier than before. But its aim is the same one that our brand, Local Living, has always had – ‘to help you get under the skin of where you live’ and relate to the people, places and experiences around you. We also aim to capture the post-lockdown spirit of togetherness, shopping locally, supporting our communities and improving ourselves as human beings beyond mere material gain. UR homes are a constantly evolving mix of all the things we love, and, currently, interior designers are encouraging us to repurpose and expand on what we have rather than change schemes unnecessarily. The Nordic trend continues to inspire and delight, but there are some key colours to add in to update an existing decor. This means you don’t have to redecorate your whole home to be on song with the latest styles. Let’s begin with the colours of the year – here’s what Pantone have to say about the shade they have chosen for 2020. ‘Classic Blue is elegant in its simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of this thought-provoking shade highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new decade. Imprinted in our psyches as a restful colour, Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquillity to the human spirit, offering refuge. Aiding concentration and bringing laser-like clarity, Classic Blue re-centres our thoughts. A reflective blue tone, fostering resilience.’ In perfect harmony, Dulux have another skyinspired shade for their own colour of the year – Tranquil Dawn – a pale greyish green, or, as described evocatively by Marianne Shillingford, the company’s Creative Director, ‘that colour that lies between the land and the sky on a misty morning’. Not surprisingly, the two colours work beautifully together and create the perfect foil for other shades of green, grey, white, pink and yellow, which can be used against them.

Sofa – so good

Thought that sofas always have to be in a neutral colour? Try a statement piece instead. Retailers are reporting that luxurious velvet sofas in strong colours such as deep blue, burnt orange and yellow are much in demand, as well as those upholstered in bold, bright patterned fabrics. Reuse and repurpose

We’ll be continuing to surround ourselves with nature and natural materials in order to feel a connection with the outside world. Increasingly, we’ll be ditching the plastic in favour of more sustainable materials. Raw wooden surfaces, whether on tables, chairs or kitchen cabinets, are taking over from their high-gloss counterparts, with antique and vintage furniture, particularly in darker-toned wood and rattan trending steeply, as we seek to reuse and repurpose – a good thing for the planet and our homes. Fabric wise

In fabrics, neutrals are refusing to budge – we love their simplicity and Scandi cool class, while colour addicts can choose between colour blocking with brave primary shades or dipping into the ’70s trend towards boho chic complete with tassels and ethnic prints. Geometrics are still strong, and you might be surprised to learn that chintz is on the rise with traditional patterns on lighter backgrounds looking great when combined with contemporary pieces (they are best kept to a minimum on smaller surfaces to avoid the ‘granny’ effect). QKS inspirational spaces QKS have always been at the forefront of innovation in the conservatory, orangery and home-extension business, and we take a look at a recent extension for a client in the Empingham Road

HE client already had an extension at the back of this delightful late Victorian house, but it lacked style and didn’t give enough space to really be able to stretch out with a growing family and to accommodate larger numbers comfortably around the table. At the design stage, they called in QKS Home, who were recommended by a friend who had been delighted by their extension. The project comprised a boot room at the side of the building and a big eating and relaxing space. The structure is in contemporary aluminium, which gives a modern, retro look and at the same time has good thermal-insulation properties. Finishing touches in the boot room included character lighting, and flooring from Mandarin

Stone. It also turned out to be a perfect spot for the dog basket, away from the kitchen. The main room has large glass doors and a skylight that ensures it is full of light throughout the day. The delightful parquet floor is ‘tumbled’ to look aged and supplied by Floors of Stone of Loughborough. The lights are from Lumison Lighting of Oakham. The client then completed the room in retro style, with a huge table offering generous space for diners, and a plasma screen on the wall. At the sides of the building, the stonework is most impressive, with stone mullioned lead windows also made by QKS. The outside cobbles come into their own in the summer months, when the socialising spills out into the garden.

And the results? The client told us: ‘We got much more space than we ever imagined we would – and there have been no end of compliments. ‘Ashley was spot on with the design. IVEN its local, national and international customer base and easily accessible, high-quality online and film operation, it is no surprise that Goldmark in Uppingham was able to weather the pandemic storm so strongly. The gallery was closed to visitors throughout and, at time of writing, was still only open by appointment. However, it remained in business for telephone and online enquiries during lockdown. Goldmark’s formidable in-house design and print operation also meant that customers, old and new, could access superb catalogues and magazines about the exhibits. Yet even founder Mike Goldmark and his son, company MD Jay, were surprised at the strength of support the gallery received at the height of the virus. New international customers quickly signed up from Canada, France, The Netherlands and Thailand, and, in the USA, from California, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington DC. New UK customers came from Berkshire, Cheshire, Edinburgh, Gwent, the Isle of Man, London, Oxford, Somerset, Winchester and Worksop, and, of course, Uppingham’s surrounding counties.

Lockdown exhibitions Jay comments: ‘The lockdown was announced just as we were preparing to open the last ever exhibition by one of the world’s great potters, Svend Bayer. People from all over the world had signalled they would be joining us for this blue riband event and then, of course, the opening never happened. Instead, we launched our online television channel goldmark.tv to give people access to art 24/7, as we know the arts nurture the soul and lift the spirits – something we all needed at that time and still need today. ‘With its gallery tours, interviews and documentaries, goldmark.tv has been hugely popular, with, for example, 5,000 views in the first 24 hours. The Svend Bayer exhibition – only available online and via our television channel – ended up being the most successful launch we have ever had! We sold hundreds of pots, and it was followed by an equally successful Phil Rogers ceramics show.’ Goldmark’s lockdown success was not just down to its international pot sales. It also staged the first ever UK exhibition of the paintings of the late Israeli artist Esther Peretz-Arad. Gallery head Mike Goldmark comments: ‘We were not going to be stopped by the coronavirus from giving the work of Esther Peretz-Arad the love and attention it so richly deserved. Visitors may not have been physically able to step into the gallery, but we moved heaven and earth to ensure that their online experience was as textured and compelling as the paintings themselves. We hung the exhibition in the normal way – filling our main gallery.’ That said, the exhibition was only intended as a taster of Peretz-Arad’s work, with a fuller show planned for 2021. Yet, as with Bayer, the artist’s work struck a chord, and red dots [indicating sold artworks] proliferated on Goldmark’s walls. This should not have been surprising given the words of art historian, editor, critic, broadcaster and former Turner Prize judge Richard Cork, who wrote about Peretz-Arad in the exhibition catalogue. Commenting on one particular work he stated: ‘The elderly lady depicted in one arresting lithograph stares downwards, making no attempt to hide her exhaustion and despair. She is portrayed with a compassionate understanding worthy of Rembrandt…’ There can be few higher compliments than that.

Autumn shows

Goldmark never stands still, and there is a packed exhibition schedule for the autumn. September 19th sees the opening of two new shows – one ceramics and one fine art. The pot show features work by JeanNicolas Gérard. Known as the potter’s potter, Gérard has gained international acclaim, and exhibitions of his pots have been staged around the globe, including America, Australia, China and Japan. Also from 19 September will be a new exhibition celebrating Jenny Grevatte’s 50 years as an artist. Jenny was discovered by renowned art dealer, Lillian Browse (nicknamed the ‘Duchess of Cork Street’, London’s epicentre of fine art galleries), when only 29. Her mixedmedia works are full of spontaneity and energy and draw inspiration from many sources. This show features new paintings inspired by a trip to Sicily, together with Jenny’s own favourite subjects of woodlands, apple orchards, sunflowers, rooftops and still life. The gallery will feature an online walk-through tour of both shows and host online chats and films with both Gérard and Grevatte on goldmark.tv. Goldmark will also publish comprehensive, full-colour catalogues.

FIVE MINUTES WITH… Ann Ellis, organiser of Stamford in Bloom

LTHOUGH the annual ‘In Bloom’ competition was cancelled this year, Stamford has been looking abundant this summer. It’s partly down to Ann Ellis and her team of 39 dedicated volunteers, who tend the town’s previously neglected areas and are responsible for the famously floriferous chair planters outside businesses in the main streets. How did you get involved with the project? My husband Keith and I have lived here for about 17 years now, and, back in 2017, I was fed up with how untidy it had become. On a visit to a pretty Cotswolds town, I got chatting to some people who were involved in a similar scheme. I started thinking that it could work here, too. How difficult was it to get started? It was like pushing at an open door: people were ready for it, and we quickly got things going. We started in 2017, ready for the first judging in 2018, and we won a bronze award, which is unusual for the first year of taking part. In 2019 we took a silver medal, and I’m sure we could have got a gold in 2020, were it not for the competition being cancelled. How has the pandemic affected what you do? Our communal planting areas and containers include lots of perennial plants (which come back every year), rather than annuals or bedding plants, so that was good because it meant that most of our containers were filled. The crisis affected the number of volunteers available, but we had a lovely response when we appealed for younger people who were not self-isolating, so we have still been active. Tell us about the decorated chairs. It’s an idea I saw on Pinterest: old chairs are recycled and repurposed as planters. Thirty businesses took part, donating to have a chair planted up and put outside their premises. Although we’ve had to bring most of the chairs back during lockdown, we hope to have them on show again for Christmas. Do you have a horticultural background? I’ve always been a keen gardener, but I trained as a nurse. I work on Stamford in Bloom about five days a week. It’s a lot, but it is sociable and fun. Businesses in town are so helpful. South Kesteven District Council provide a tap for water, and we get rainwater from the roof of St George’s Hub, which makes life easier. Everyone seems very appreciative of what we’re doing, which is to enhance, not smother, the amazing architecture we have here.

GARDEN HERO: SEPTEMBER Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ Why should I plant it? The month of September lends itself to more intensely coloured flowers, and this crocosmia has small, fiery flowers that glow like embers on the arching stem. Where should I plant it? Mix it with other late-flowering plants in a moist, well-drained border in full sun or semi- shade. The corms should be planted at a depth of 10cm and the same distance apart.

Many seed companies sold out last spring, as more people turned to gardening during the pandemic. Why not collect your own this year so you’re all set for the next growing season?

When to collect?

It’s time to harvest when the heads have turned brown and hard. Wait for dry weather and clip off the seed heads. Put them in a paper bag or brown envelope (plastic can cause them to go mouldy) and label as you collect, as it’s very easy to lose track.

Which flower seeds are best?

Poppies, which you can shake straight from the seed head into a bag, and honesty, whose seeds are easily visible inside a flat, silvery case. Nigella works well, as do pot marigolds and alliums.

How do I store them?

Put the seeds in individual envelopes and label them carefully. Seeds need to be stored in a cool, dry frost-free environment.

Mind time In a year of more uncertainty than ever, it’s not surprising that experts predict that mental-health issues will be even more paramount than usual with anxiety and depression on the increase. Whilst a doctor may well be the first port of call, there is plenty of support available in the region, whether it’s talking through problems with experts or working on relaxation techniques. Bridget Steele takes a look at a selection of what is available to us locally…

The Buddhist way Based in Peterborough, Drolma Buddhist Centre is a hub for meditation and mindfulness. You don’t have to be a Buddhist or follow any religious faith to take part in their workshops. The Centre is currently physically closed, but the team are offering guided meditations and practical advice from Buddha’s teachings online. These classes and courses help you to cope with the challenges of daily life – especially in these uncertain times. One student says: ‘Meditation has been a real eye-opener – that you can actually find calm and peace of mind in a crazy world that’s always busy. It was just amazing for me to find out that there is a possibility of peace and calm, and that if you keep going with it, things get easier and easier. I tried meditating a long time before coming to Drolma Centre and hit so many hurdles. So, to have a place where there is a real sense of community, where you can feel supported and welcome, is fantastic.’ Drolma Centre offers a range of weekly meditation classes starting at only £3 for 30 minutes, as well as morning and longer courses. Resilient Rutland Resilient Rutland is a three-year project that kicked off in April 2019 with the aim of supporting young people, their parents and carers with mental health and wellbeing, working with local schools and organisations across the county. Supporting mental health and wellbeing, the scheme is available to every child in Rutland. It aims to help youngsters become more resilient by focusing on early intervention, prevention and coping strategies, hopefully preventing small problems from becoming larger ones. Men’s mental health This year saw the launch of a Peterborough support group set up Jack Emery and Dr Ian Tennant (pictured) aimed specifically at men. Ian notes, ‘Men often suffer in silence and often acutely feel the strain of changing expectations placed on them.’ Earlier this year in Peterborough, the group hosted a Men’s Mental Health Day, which highlighted the excellent support available in the city, including friendly clubs that use activities such as car maintenance or sport to help men share how they feel in a safe space, as well as oneto-one therapies. Some excellent progress has also been made with workplace training for mental-health awareness. The City council adopted a training programme delivered by Mental Health in the Workplace – a national organisation set up by Peterboroughbased therapist, Gary Johannes. Ian said: ‘The term “Mental Health” is off-putting to a lot of people. We are working on ways to welcome more men into the network of support available. Johan Truter – Clinical psychologist Psychological therapy can be beneficial when you are living in a permanent state of distress or anxiety, leaving you feeling stuck or trapped. The reasons for the onset of psychological difficulties may be related to sudden stresses such as bereavement or traumatic life changes. In other situations, problems may be linked to longer-standing difficulties, such as painful childhood experiences. Psychological problems may also build up over time inadvertently and be brought to a head by the proverbial last straw. Johan said, ‘Psychological therapy starts with an assessment session – discussing the difficulties you have had or are experiencing. This will enable me to establish which psychological approach would be best suited, as well as the number of sessions you might find helpful in treating your difficulty.’ At the end of the initial assessment, you will receive a generalised summary of Johan’s clinical impressions. At this point it will be determined if this service is suited to your needs or not. Should the therapy be continued, an initial number of sessions will be contracted, commencing the therapeutic intervention. Holistic therapist Maria Chapman invited me along to her newly refurbished treatment room in Peterborough to take me through the basics of meditation. She explained that this relaxation technique can alleviate and reduce the effects of stress, helping to reduce anxiety, boost the immune system and reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and on the day of my visit I had been rushing around, feeling anything but calm… The session started with some simple shoulder and head rolls before I lay down on the couch, where Maria took me through the gradual process of asking me to tense a muscle while breathing in and then gradually letting go on the breath out. She asked me to focus on walking on a beach and keeping the thought in my head while we worked on tensing and relaxing muscles with soft wave music playing in the background. I was surprised how quickly the process took me from an anxious state of mind to being totally relaxed. After the session I continued to feel relaxed and calm. Maria can help people who are new to meditation or at a more advanced level with a variety of techniques. She charges £45 for an hour session. A facelift for Flawless Clare Rudd-Jones went to catch up with Clinic Director Neeta Matharu at Flawless of Stamford to find out how the business navigated the lockdown period and how things are faring now that things are up and running again It’s so great to see Flawless Faces and Flawless Body open again. How have the past few months been for you? Once we’d coped with the initial logistics of how to look after our staff and, on the home front, our young family at home, lockdown gave us the time to step back and think about how to really take Flawless forwards. We are a resilient business with a loyal client base established through the years, and we’ve taken the opportunity over lockdown to assess and reinvest in our offering to make it even stronger. Were there any surprisingly positive things to come out of lockdown for Flawless? Lockdown gave me the time to completely redesign Flawless Faces (the Hair & Beauty Salon), something I’d started to look into prior to the pandemic. The Salon has undergone a full, bespoke refit and looks incredible. The online side has been running just over a year and has grown significantly. Now that you’re open again, how is the ‘new normal’ – and which treatments have been most in demand?

We’ve been incredibly busy since we reopened on 18 July. When we first reopened, only treatments from the neck downwards were allowed. Lycon waxing – now more pain-free than ever – has been extremely popular with us at Flawless Faces, while at Flawless Body we’ve had huge demand for laser hair removal and for fat-freezing, tackling those lockdown pounds. We finally got the green light for facials and brow treatments from Saturday 15 August, which was wonderful, as we’d already had to reschedule initial bookings for those – so many of our clients have missed their regular beauty treatments and are appreciating their benefits even more than ever. What are your plans for the next few months? We’re looking forward to welcoming back more of our clients – and new ones – and seeing them enjoy our stylish new refit. Covid-19 may only be a blip or it may be a whole new way of life, but we are optimistic that when we are on the other side the brand will be stronger and better for it. This will ensure we give Stamford, its surrounding areas and also our team the best environment in which to have treatments carried out. Over the years, I have read over 150 business books, attended courses and workshops, and met with some amazingly successful entrepreneurs in the hope that I could glean just a few ideas from each. I implement a lot of these ideas into my own company, Efficient Portfolio, but I wanted to share my ideas as best I could. So, I wrote another book! Colin the camel This month Amander Meade meets Colin the camel, who belongs to Vernon Moore of Moores Estate Agents

ERNON’S grandfather Jack spent his life as a professional gamekeeper and is remembered as a man who employed conservation and environmental ideology far ahead of his time. Jack was employed by both the Sandringham and Stapleford Park estates, and Vernon remembers spending time with his grandfather, learning about wildlife and country lore from him. ‘At one time, Lord Gretton kept some animals owned by Chipperfield’s Circus at Stapleford, including lions and apes. My grandfather was involved in their welfare as well as gamekeeping on the estate and that made a big impression on me as a boy.’ Entrusted with a Dangerous Wild Animal licence, Vernon has rescued many unusual animals in his time, and his collection has included rare water fowl, kabaris, maras, wallabies and limas – many of whom have been loaned to specialist breeding programmes around the UK. It was while visiting a sanctuary looking for a female to keep his male lima company that Vernon first met Colin – a Mongolian bull camel. Definitely not in the market for a camel but under a certain amount of pressure from his young son Max, who fell in love with Colin at first sight, Vernon agreed to give him a permanent home. ‘We built him a shelter and created a sand pit for him, as camels love to roll in sand almost daily. His enclosure had to be made secure to zoo standards, and, of course, we had to gain clearance from the Council. Of Colin’s history, we know that he performed with Chipperfield’s until the law changed and prevented the use of animals in circuses. He also

spent some time in a zoo before arriving at the sanctuary. Colin’s brother is also in a sanctuary in a different part of the country.’ Vernon is hoping to secure a wife for Colin, thought now to be in his mid-20s, in the hope that they will soon be hearing the patter of tiny hooves. Although Colin is far from lonely with all the company he has from the other animals, camels are naturally a herd animal, and I would like to see him with a proper mate. He doesn’t see too well due to cataracts, but we were advised that, on balance, surgery would pose too great a risk to his life. He copes well with extreme heat and cold but isn’t a fan of the rain when he heads for the rear of his cosy shelter. He’s very appealing and has a charm all his own, but we are always respectful of him – after all he’s an animal of substantial weight and stature, and camels will defend themselves vigorously if they feel threatened.’ Happily settled with the Moore family for a number of years now, Colin became well known to locals during Lockdown. ‘As well as the hay we feed him, usually local pubs and restaurants are kind enough to offer Colin lots of peelings and spare fruit and veg to help supplement his diet, but during Lockdown they were closed, so we appealed to local people to save their leftovers for Colin instead,’ explains Vernon. ‘The response was fantastic – people rallied to help keep Colin well fed, and he was extremely grateful. Camels also love willow branches, and Colin’s personal favourite treats are bananas. He’s had a colourful career and now has a home here for life – we just love him.’

Outdoor spaces Outside areas are never more relevant than now, as we get back to eating out. Nicholas Rudd-Jones explores some favourites – fingers crossed for an Indian summer!

T the start of the summer, restaurant owners did not know when they might reopen, what the ‘new normal’ might look like and, indeed, for some, whether they would ever open their doors again. What has been remarkable is not just how incredibly hard they have worked to get things safe, but also how many have been able to create not just a ‘new normal’ but a ‘new special’ – in the process, creating new and different memories for diners. By the end of the meal we have usually forgotten that things are very different and just appreciate the good food and warm hospitality. Always try and book ahead if you can – at the moment many establishments are not able to accept walk-ins. Book direct, so that restaurants do not have to pay commission to a third party, and never be a ‘no-show’ statistic.

The Barn Garden Café, Barnwell The spacious, purpose-built Box Café is popular for its homemade scones, tarts and cakes, as well as light lunches and paninis. They have lots of outdoor space, so a good choice, if the weather allows.

We go here often for the plants and garden accoutrements, and never want to miss out on the brilliant café. There are plenty of well-spaced tables outside, spilling into the rows of trees and shrubs and affording a lovely view as you eat and drink.

The Kitchen Garden is a beautifully converted area with a vegetable and herb garden. It offers Pizza Potting Shed fare. The beauty here is that there is no need to book a table, as they are opening on a first come, first served basis! Films are shown regularly too, check blackboard outside or call ahead.

If you were trying to conjure up what the ‘secret garden’ looked like, it might not be far off this one, behind the castle in Oakham – a quaint spot to lounge away a warm afternoon in late summer/early autumn in the dappled shade. Take your mobile and you can use a QR code to bring the menu up on your phone – ingeniously negating the need for a paper menu.

As one Trip Advisor (TA) diner commented: ‘We wanted a special meal for our first meal out since lockdown and The Chubby Castor did not disappoint. TA comment: ‘We had our first meal out, after lockdown, in the garden at The Exeter Arms. We had a great night out. Fantastic atmosphere. Mark and his team could not do enough for us. Food was wonderful.’

The menu changes with the seasons and is inspired by the produce grown on the farm. Hambleton Hall celebrated its 40th this year. I love the header on their recent newsletter: ‘Hambleton Hall opened July 1st, 1980 and reopened July 5th, 2020.’ The south-facing terrace gives ample space on a sunny day, although it can’t be booked in advance. Perhaps call ahead if the weather looks set fair and no doubt something can be arranged.

Hitchen’s Barn, Oakham Headed by Louise and Neil Hitchen, who previously ran The Berkeley Arms in Wymondham, Hitchen’s Barn has been winning acclaim left, right and centre since opening early last year, including a Michelin Bib Gourmand 2020. In Louise’s words: ‘we are SO happy to reopen.’ It’s not surprising then to read this diner experience: ‘Our second visit last night for the first date night post lockdown. They certainly haven’t lost any of their excellent service, ambience and dining experience.’

The King’s Head, Wadenhoe Wadenhoe is a picture-postcard perfect village, and its pub, The King’s Head, looks out over the River Nene with its huge garden running down to the water’s edge. The pub was recently taken over by the owners of The Old Barn (now closed), who have incorporated the tea rooms, breakfasts etc into the pub. Reports suggest it’s going brilliantly. Recent TA comment: ‘Came here yesterday afternoon to surprise my mum out from lockdown and take the doggies for a walk. The King’s Head was so clean, Covid safe, excellent service, 5-star fresh food, beautiful setting and the staff was so polite and efficient.’

What can be braver than launching during Covid, which is what the Regus brothers have done, opening this classy establishment in August. It’s a wine and cocktail bar with a balcony out the back looking towards Stamford’s Meadows. Downstairs is a bar, where ‘small bites’ will be offered; upstairs is a restaurant with an à la carte menu from Dameon Clarke, renowned local chef (formerly of The Wicked Witch in Ryhall).

The Willow & Brook, Apethorpe Married couple Jim and Suzanne took over the pub this year, just before Covid-19 struck, but nothing would deter them, and they are now back to great acclaim. Jim has 25 years of culinary experience, and Suzanne has a passion for delivering excellent service and warm hospitality. TA review: ‘Popped in for a quick lunch. Fantastic service and food served in the lovely courtyard garden. Highly recommended.’

Introducing Add Hope’s Sean Hope, co-founder of The Olive Branch, writes about his tough decision to step away from the stoves and his exciting new product range

roast beef with Add Hope’s creamed horseradish (grown in the paddock). When the weather has been less fair, I’ve spent time creating the website and online shop add-hopes.com to bring my products to a larger audience.

N April 2018, I decided to step away from the stoves at The Olive Branch after nearly 20 years. The reason was simple: it was starting to affect my mental health. Exiting the pub kitchen was difficult. Cooking is an ingrained passion I’ve held dear for more than 35 years. It left a huge void in my life, but, while recovering from my diagnosis of anxiety and depression, I was able to spend valuable time with my family. Another door opens I also followed another passion of mine – growing fruit and vegetables. Three years ago, I developed a plan for The Olive Branch paddock, which is located over the road opposite the pub. Of late, I have returned to the paddock to continue what I’d started – growing sustainable, seasonal organic ingredients for the pub. Doing so has inspired me and rewarded me with greater peace of mind. My approach is to use as much general waste from the pub as possible alongside a ‘no-dig’, organic policy. We’re using old cardboard to make growing beds, and combining coffee grounds with waste fruit, veg and fireplace ash to produce compost. My composting area is like mother nature’s stockpot for fabulous food! The Add Hope’s brand is born I came up with the idea for Add Hope’s while working in the paddock and while talking to family and friends. The importance of sauces and

condiments to my Olive Branch cooking style often cropped up in conversation. The question came: ‘Why don’t you make them, bottle them and sell them?’ Add Hope’s is the result. I’ve painstakingly developed each product, taking the time to perfect each one. They are designed for people, who, like me, adore food but sometimes don’t have enough time to make complex sauces and condiments at home. I want people to use Add Hope’s products with their dishes. You might sprinkle Add Hope’s Hoisin sauce – made from paddock-grown hawthorn berries – to a midweek stir-fry. Or maybe you’ll use Add Hope’s spiced tomato sauce in a simple ratatouille. Or perhaps you’ll complement grilled spring lamb or your Sunday

Exploring fermentation I have also been researching fermentation, which I find fascinating. The result is a local organic Rutland beer vinegar and my interpretation of Worcestershire sauce, which has been in development for quite a number of months! I’m also developing kombucha, brewed with paddock-grown lemon verbena. All my products will be available to try at The Olive Branch and to buy in the pub shop. MindSpace Stamford After struggling with mental health and finding it hard to get the right support, I was delighted to discover a local charity – MindSpace Stamford. Their positive and practical support is excellent and much needed, so I have decided to donate a proportion of the profits from Add Hope’s to this amazing charity. The future Soon, I would love to give people the chance to spend time at The Olive Branch paddock via gardening workshops. Fundraising for MindSpace Stamford is also planned. add-hopes.com

You cannot beat a beer on the terrace here overlooking the valley and duck pond. Good pub food too, plus lots of outdoor space.

This walk offers views without parallel in the region, effectively a circumnavigation of the Harringworth Viaduct, described by the original landowner as ‘one of the grandest and most perfect pieces of work’. Henry Winter Chief Football Writer for The Times newspaper for the past five years, Henry Winter speaks to Antonia Scott about working from home during lockdown, and what has changed in the world of football PHOTOS: ELLI DEAN

What has it been like at a national level reporting from empty grounds? For the first three months of lockdown, I interviewed between 50–60 players and managers from my home in Geeston. It is a fantastic place to work, with the river at the bottom of my garden and the incredible kites flying overhead. As restrictions have lifted, and football grounds opened, I have now commented on many national football games behind closed doors, and the atmosphere without fans is certainly weird. Firstly, there is a 140-page protocol document to read before entering the stadium, all journalists have to wear face coverings, and you have your temperature taken on arrival. Many of the stadium staff have face visors and masks, which all seems very surreal. It has made me realise just how important both the home and away fans are – not just the supporters encouraging their own team, but also to help players feed off the opposition’s chants. The players I have watched continue to play top-level football, but they definitely miss the atmosphere of a full stadium. I hope by January 2021 fans can be fully reintroduced to stadiums, not just for player morale but also for the lost revenues that lockdown enforced on football venues around the world, particularly at grassroots level. The Premier League will always survive, but League One, League Two and non-League have suffered catastrophically through loss of ticket revenue this season, and the quicker we can open up sporting facilities, the stronger their financial health can be. The top division needs to help out, releasing more of its TV money down.

Obesity levels in children are rising, particularly from deprived areas of the country that lack sporting facilities, and this will continue to be a widespread problem if local clubs close. It is incredibly important that we get children playing sport and keeping fit from a young age. Many local businesses financially help local teams, and their support has never been more important, although many of these firms have also suffered throughout this pandemic. Numerous grassroots teams up and down the country rely heavily on the support of volunteers, who do so much for their teams to keep them going. If we lose football clubs at the bottom of the pyramid, then there will be huge longterm ramifications for the health of a whole generation of children.

What can be done locally to keep the grassroots teams going? Government has to step in and provide more funding for grassroots facilities and coaching. The long-term benefits for the country’s health, therefore easing strain on the NHS, are obvious.

WHAT DID YOU MISS DURING LOCKDOWN? I definitely missed The Tobie Norris in Stamford and The Railway pub in Ketton. I enjoyed having a peaceful pint on the village green in Barrowden when that became possible.

Marcus Rashford’s June campaign to ask the government to do a U-turn on their decision to provide food vouchers for vulnerable children throughout the long summer holidays demonstrated the influence a high-profile footballer can have on policy. It is Rashford’s persistence, intelligence and determination that have made our government understand what matters. I’ve spent a bit of time with Marcus in Manchester and I know how principled he is. I do believe that footballers and FAVOURITE LOCAL TEAMS I try to get to Stamford when I can, at the Zeeco. It’s always welcoming. They have a good manager in Graham Drury, who has the Daniels playing good football.

other high-profile sportsmen and women can be useful complements to our politicians, to give direction to the country and make an impact where it matters. Rashford’s campaign to help parents of vulnerable children provided not just food throughout the long school holidays, but also hope and leadership. The Black Lives Matters campaign has had the support of many Premier League footballers – will this help to eradicate racism in football? Education is at the heart of removing racism from sport and society, but it’s going to take a long time. Football is helping to tackle racism, especially with intelligent, determined players such as Raheem Sterling, Tyrone Mings and Ben Mee speaking out powerfully and eloquently. I also know players will walk off the pitch, stopping the game when they hear racism in the future. Finally, lockdown humour has been a vital ingredient in keeping the great British morale up. What made you laugh whilst being at home? I loved the simply brilliant commentary from the Scottish broadcaster, Andrew Cotter, who filmed his labradors, Olive and Mabel, with amusing voice-overs. He is a joy to listen to and has a wonderful voice. He managed to capture perfectly the mood of the great British public, combining our love of animals and unique sense of humour. I hope his dogs become stars, opening Crufts next year! I also had fun with my two grown-up children, who filmed me making a fool of myself trying to attempt one of Jamie Vardy’s football techniques, before jumping in the river at the bottom of my garden. It was part of the appeal at the start of lockdown to get everybody to wash their hands, so I thought I’d do it from the Welland. Apparently, it got over 150k views on Twitter! It was important to get the message out there and thank the incredible NHS for the work they do.

Finding your flow in lockdown Sarah Chase meets local people who, during the months of lockdown, rediscovered hobbies, talents and passions that had long been side-lined due to work and life pressures

The pilot and framer

One of the first industries to experience the brutal reality of lockdown was aviation. Geoff Little, a pilot with British Airways for 23 years, quickly found his commercial rota all but empty. Although he has been flying cargo flights, including that all-important PPE, around the world, his work diary has been quieter than usual. Geoff’s interest in photography began years ago, but he has found framing his work less straightforward. ‘I like to experiment with the framing of photographs as I’m producing them,’ he explains, ‘but professional framing services are prohibitively expensive for the experimentation stage.’ Late last year Geoff booked onto a professional framers’ course, scheduled for March this year… ‘Fortunately, I completed the course about a week before lockdown happened,’ he says. Lockdown allowed him the time to research techniques and source equipment, much of which came from the workshop of a retiring framer – coincidentally, an ex-pilot known to Geoff. ‘Aviation will always be my career, but over time I would like to become known as a professional, competent, reliable and meticulous framer,’ he says. ‘I’ll be framing mostly for myself, family and friends to start with, with a short-term goal of becoming an Accredited Professional Framer with the Guild of Certified Framers. ‘Having a new interest with the mammoth task of learning and mastering some of the many framing techniques has allowed me to switch off from the worries of the outside world,’ he says.

The anaesthetist and gardener

The first weeks of lockdown were extremely busy for Dr Julie Naylor, a consultant anaesthetist working as part of the anaesthetic team at Peterborough City Hospital. ‘With all elective surgery cancelled, we were running emergency lists only,’ she says, ‘so I was working in the emergency theatre and the trauma theatre.’ Julie had been awaiting surgery herself for nerve root compression in her neck, which had caused increasing pain for years. Having been cancelled twice, her surgery eventually went ahead at the beginning of May, and Julie found herself off work, recovering, for two months. ‘I needed something to help fill my time, but which wasn’t physically demanding,’ she explains, ‘and I decided to start studying for the theory part of the RHS Level 2 Diploma in Horticulture.’ Julie had designed and planted her first ‘tiny back garden’ in Manchester, 20 years ago, and an interest in all things horticultural had been born. ‘I moved to my current house three years ago,’ she says, ‘and I made a fair few changes to the hard and soft landscaping – extending borders and replacing paths.’ The pressures of lockdown have made Julie realise the need to find balance in her life. ‘My mental well-being has always been helped by spending time in my garden,’ she says, ‘and my hope is that the course will make me a better gardener.’ Further plans include volunteering at the Barnack garden of designer Adam Frost. ‘Learning about plant selection and design from Adam and his head gardener Dan Jones will be a fantastic opportunity,’ Julie says, ‘which I hope may lead to my working in the garden more formally in the future.’

Regular readers will know the work of Steven Handley, even if they don’t realise it. ‘As Head of Design for Local Living magazines I am responsible for the overall look of the magazines,’ he explains, ‘the typography, the presentation, the visual elements coming together on the pages.’ The enforced break from publication following lockdown created ‘a sudden shift’, says Steve, ‘from extremely busy workloads and deadlines to nothing. It was a dramatic shock.’ Although his career in the world of magazines has been focused on design, Steve’s first love – discovered as a student at Lincoln College of Art – was Fine Art. Lockdown reignited this interest, giving him time to explore his creativity: ‘painting at my easel, while my wife, Clare, crossstitches or puts together enormous jigsaws has been pure relaxation,’ he says. Steve has taken as his working theme ‘Heroes and Icons across the Decades’, and he has rendered an eclectic mix of portraits including Dracula, Joy Division and Clint Eastwood in black-and-white watercolour. He hopes to take this rediscovered love further, by producing limited runs of giclée prints to sell. ‘A website is in the works,’ he says, ‘and this will give me a chance to showcase my work to a worldwide audience. Let’s hope they like it!’

When she was furloughed from her shop assistant role at Jollys Toys in Thrapston, Lucy Milner was not short of ways to fill her time. ‘I quickly became involved with our village’s support scheme,’ she says, ‘coordinating prescription and shopping deliveries to selfisolating and vulnerable people. I also increased my volunteering at our community-run shop, which became a vital lifeline for the village.’ Crafting projects have always played a role in Lucy’s life: ‘I invariably have a knitting or crochet project on the go,’ she says. ‘I’ve had stalls at craft fairs in the past, and I have taken commissions for items such as quilts, cushions and baby blankets.’ Lockdown was different, though. ‘I had time for more ambitious sewing projects, such as dressmaking,’ she explains. ‘I already had a pattern or two, and some fabric in my stash, so I began with a linen dress, followed by a couple of tunics, some pyjamas and a pair of trousers.’ Lucy was lucky enough to find an online supplier, who accepted orders once a week. ‘Getting those parcels of new fabric was wonderful!’ she says. Drawing on the skills she’d learned years ago at her school needlework lessons, she hopes her teacher would be proud. ‘It’s lovely to know I’ve made something that’s unique and mine,’ she says, ‘and I’ve definitely learnt more complicated techniques during these past months. ‘I’d like to develop my skills further and, perhaps, make a coat.’

Belvoir Blue summerhouse from Scotts of Thrapston A Northamptonshire timber product manufacturer has created a bespoke Belvoir Blue summerhouse for the Duchess of Rutland, who is acting as an agent for the company. Scotts of Thrapston created the Burghley summerhouse in the historic colour, which features heavily throughout Belvoir Castle. The 2.4m summerhouse is on display at Belvoir’s Engine Yard retail village in Leicestershire, along with two other models: a 3.9m Sun Ray Garden Room and a 2.2m Newhaven Corner Summerhouse. Scotts is celebrating its centenary this year and is delighted to have a presence in such an historic location. The Duchess of Rutland first approached Scotts during the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, where the company has been exhibiting since the 1960s. Quarry extension will provide up to 30 new jobs

Stone supplier, Stamford Stone Company, is delighted to announce that a planning application to extend one of its Clipsham quarry sites has been given the go-ahead by Rutland County Council. The announcement safeguards the existing stone supply from its Clipsham Bidwells quarry site for the next 30 years, whilst also allowing the site to be extended. ‘We are delighted with the decision to let us extend the quarry by 14 hectares to the south of the site. This extension will provide an uplift in the local economy and will create up to 30 new jobs in the area over the next 10 years,’ explains Director Laura Green. Throughout the planning process, Stamford Stone has been in close consultation with local authorities Clipsham Bidwells quarry and community groups to discuss the proposals and to provide all the surveys and reports required to fully evaluate a large-scale project like this. Full noise and dust surveys were completed, along with ecology reports reviewing localised bat and wildlife habitats and populations and archaeology and hydrology reports. ‘This project will include a phased restoration of the area, meaning that we will be focusing on restoring the local biodiversity within the areas that have been quarried. This takes the form of infilling the older sites and reintroducing the natural wildlife to the site, so that in time you will never know we have quarried those areas,’ adds Laura. Fabric and paint from Annie Allison Annie Allison has previously been known primarily for her wallpaper designs created in her signature style from drawings using pen and ink, but she has now just launched her first fabric collection. Entitled ‘Freshly Cut’, the range is a celebration of the British countryside, where the skies, water, gardens and hedgerows collide. Annie’s fabrics showcase her love for mixing pattern, texture and colour in a way that complements all three, using both earthy and fresh hues. It is a relaxed, contemporary style that Annie describes as ‘modern English’, where you can either mix and match or use designs independently. She has also worked with the Norfolk-based paint company Fenwick & Tilbrook to produce her own select range of paint colours, as well as having designed a new children’s fabric range called ‘Wild Things’, also available now. As part of her ethos, Annie

has always been able to offer flexibility in design via her bespoke service, collaborating with a client to create a unique colourway or even a commissioned design where she interprets the brief in her style. Oakham School offers educational continuity during Coronavirus Back in March, Oakham School adapted to the Coronavirus challenge to offer a remote education that was ready for all pupils to enjoy and access after their Easter break. Whilst the School community is set to return in September, Oakham’s approach to remote education is now so successfully embedded, it reduces any potential disruptions should further lockdowns occur. ‘At times of crisis, such as these, there is clarity of what’s important,’ says Leo Dudin, Deputy Head (Academic). ‘For us, it is that human relationships are at the heart of education. That face-to-face interactions and relationships matter and bring learning to life.’ All lessons have been undertaken online, with pupils benefiting from a full daily timetable of two-way virtual teaching. Oakham has always used the phrase ‘learning isn’t limited to the classroom.’ Never has it been truer, though, with pupils able to have their specialist music lessons online as well as taking science lessons remotely – enjoying investigations and experiments in their ‘home laboratories’! Ask Leo John Piper Jean Orpin and Sue Lee have been finding out about the world-renowned artist John Piper (1903–92) and his associations with our local area

Recording Britain Early in World War II, the art historian Kenneth Clark persuaded the Government to set up the War Artists Scheme. Piper was one of the artists chosen to paint pictures of buildings in the countryside that might be damaged in the event of an invasion by bombs or neglect. The scheme became known as Recording Britain. One of Piper’s paintings was of St Matthew’s Church at Normanton, Rutland, long before it was partly submerged by Rutland Water.

OHN Piper was a multi-talented man. He is remembered as an artist, but some may remember him as a stage and costume designer, others as a designer of stained glass, mosaics and tapestries, or as a potter, a poet and critic, or a pianist.

Childhood Piper was born in 1903 in Epsom. He inherited from his father a love of the English countryside and country churches. He was educated at Epsom College and wanted to go to art school, but his eldest brother was killed at Ypres, and his father, disapproving of the art of the time which he felt was far removed from the English tradition, decided that his son should become a partner in his firm of solicitors. Before starting work, John visited Italy and spent his time painting, and then persuaded his father that after his training he would be allowed to follow his chosen career. In the event, he failed his final law examinations.

In 1926 Piper entered the Richmond School of Art and then the Royal College, where Henry Moore was a teacher. The design school was more interesting than the painting school to him, and there he learnt about the art of stained glass and lithographical techniques from Francis Spear. The foundation for his versatility as an artist was laid. Here, Piper met Braque and was introduced to the latter’s Cubist pictures. He visited the Picasso exhibition and often made his own copies. He met Eileen Holding, a fellow student, but the college frowned on married students, so he left when he married her in 1928, without taking his diploma. He was eager to start his career as an artist, and his first exhibition was woodcuts and engravings. He experimented with collages and painted pictures similar to those Braque.

The Sitwells of Renishaw Hall were patrons of the arts, and Piper was a protégé. Osbert Sitwell commissioned 70 paintings, which now hang in a special gallery. Many of the paintings illustrated Osbert Sitwell’s autobiography. Edith Sitwell gave him his first commission for theatre scenery – designing a front of stage cloth for William Walton and Edith Sitwell’s joint venture, Façade. Piper went on to design scenery for Sadler’s Wells, Covent Garden and Glyndebourne. Some of these are displayed at Renishaw. He also designed scenery and costumes for Walton’s ballet ‘The Quest’ and Benjamin Britten’s operas.

Critic He became an art critic and reviewed books, plays, concerts and films, and this helped him through the years of the Depression. He went through a period of uncertainty, and his marriage failed. By the time he met Myfanwy Evans, who became his second wife in 1937, he was one of the leading abstract artists. Together they started a new avant-garde art magazine called Axis. They lived in an old farmhouse at Fawley in the Chilterns and raised their four children there.

Stained glass Piper worked with Patrick Reyntiens in stained glass. Their first commission in the 1950s was for the chapel of Oundle School. They then worked for Eton College Chapel and received two other important commissions for stained glass: the first was for the lantern tower at the new Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, and the second for the 85ft-high Baptistry window at Coventry Cathedral. They also collaborated on many smaller projects.

He did a series of articles for The Architectural Review and attracted the attention of John Betjeman, who asked him to do a series of paintings for the Oxfordshire volume of the Shell Guides, which he found an immensely

Piper was also a designer of textiles and created a wall hanging at Chichester Cathedral in 1965. He also designed textiles for David Whitehead and Arthur Sanderson. John Piper died at his home, Fawley Bottom, Buckinghamshire, in 1992, where he had spent most of his life.

Stained-glass windows at Oundle School Chapel F

ROM the mid-1950s, John Piper exerted a tremendous influence on stained glass, not just in this country but worldwide, and this all evolved from his first commission to design windows for Oundle School Chapel. A series of coincidences brought Piper together with the school and with Patrick Reyntiens, the stained-glass artist who was to bring Piper’s designs to fruition. The link between them was the poet John Betjeman. In 1556 Oundle School was endowed by Sir William Laxton, Lord Mayor of London and Master of the Worshipful Company of Grocers. As the School approached its 400th anniversary, the Grocers’ Company were continuing their support (as they still do today) and looking to mark the occasion. At a dinner in the Grocers’ Hall, Betjeman met with Leonard Dent, a Member of the Company with a great interest in the arts, and suggested that it would be a good idea to approach his friend John Piper. Dent persuaded the Company to commission Piper. Piper was approaching 50 years old and was well known, but at that time he had no experience of working with glass, so it was a risky commission. His interest in stained glass, however, went back to his early schooldays, when he cycled around country churches. He started sketching in 1953 and was not at all sure where he would find someone to carry out the actual work of making the glass. At the same time, Betjeman, as a church warden at Wantage, had assigned the small repair of a window in the church to a young Patrick Reyntiens and suggested he went to see Piper. Reyntiens was given the design of two heads to see how he got on and he tells an amusing story of how he took the finished trial piece back to Piper on his Vespa scooter, the only transport he had. There were three windows to fill, each with three ‘lights’ and the tracery above. Piper’s design East Window presents Christ in nine ways, based on descriptions in St John’s Gospel. His inspiration came from Medieval windows, particularly in the cathedrals in Chartres and Bourges, from foliate heads of ‘green men’ found in country churches, and also from Picasso. This mixture of old and new influences is reflected in the traditional theology but radical design of the windows. The use of colour and technique in the windows, expertly rendered by Reyntiens, is subtle and symbolic. Each figure carries a symbol to identify the role of Christ and the head of the central figure in each window is a ‘green man’ with tendrils and leaves reaching up into the tracery. In the East Window (left) the tendrils carry vine leaves, and the white roundels above depict the ‘manna from heaven’ that provided for the Israelites in the wilderness.

SOUTH WINDOW This shows Christ as Judge carrying a flail to separate the wheat from the chaff, Christ as a Teacher with a staff to guide and point in the right direction, and Christ as the Good Shepherd with a crook to care for his sheep.

Robert Loomes Our very own Stamfordian clockmaker Robert Loomes recently became Chairman of the British Horological Institute. Nicholas Rudd-Jones went to meet him at its headquarters

HE British Horological Institute (BHI) is housed in a stunning Palladian house in Upton, just the other side of Newark. The story goes that it was swapped 50 years ago for their old home in Northampton Square in London. Upton Hall is central, provides great classroom space, and is also home to the Museum of Timekeeping.

So how did the BHI come about? ‘The BHI started in 1858 in London as clock- and watchmakers sought to formalise what had until then been a very secretive art, passed on from master to apprentice. Very quickly they developed a series of diplomas (the foundation of what we still teach today), which ultimately led to the professional membership grades of Member (MBHI) or Fellow (FBHI). Taught as a Distance Learning Course, with short residential classes at Upton, the course can be completed in three years, though many spread it through their early career. I had been working full time with clocks and watches for 12 years before I qualified.’ The BHI is one of the most respected horological institutes in the world, with over 2,000 members; it is on the top table along with those of the USA and Switzerland. What it is especially noted for is that it allows you to fix any watch, as it’s completely independent of any watch-making company and works from first principles. And what does Upton Hall comprise of? ‘Upton Hall houses a couple of classrooms - one for watchmaking and one for clockmaking. Our tutors are some of the best in Britain. We run examinations every summer in theory, practical and a portfolio of completed repairs or restoration. Significant weight these days is given to the matter of repair, restoration and conservation, and a BHI qualification is required for restorers wanting membership of ICON, the Institute of Conservation. Our watch-servicing classes usually run full. ‘As well as providing the training for watch servicing, it also provides an excellent training in watch making. All the independent British watchmaking firms, including ourselves, Bremont and Christopher Ward, send their staff to the BHI for their training. All the Loomes watchmakers in Stamford have been BHI trained. ‘In the years I have worked in Stamford, we have helped five staff to MBHI. Each has gone on to open their own successful businesses or join established partnerships, either in Britain or overseas, and some are now training their own staff through the BHI. It is a very rewarding feeling.

‘The full training to Fellowship is holistic. Students are examined on how to measure, draw and manufacture almost every possible component for a watch or clock – as one might for a rare 1930s’ watch with a broken or missing component. No other watchmaker training has such a broad curriculum, which is why many well-known Swiss firms employ BHI-trained staff in their research and prototyping workshops. ‘The BHI is also rolling out a new Trailblazer Apprenticeship scheme for watchmaking. This two-year, level three apprenticeship teaches the servicing of quartz, manual and automatic watches. There is significant demand for watch technicians, and this new scheme, again with short block release training at Upton Hall, will train the next generation of watchmakers. ‘The Institute is open to everyone. All members receive the monthly Horological Journal, which contains a wealth of both practical and historical information on watch- and clockmaking past and present. All members are encouraged to learn, to attend lectures and, if possible, to start the Distance Learning Course, but none is compulsory. Some simply enjoy the magazine and an occasional trip to the Museum. ‘And the Build Your Own Watch Courses have also proved very popular and are running full at the moment. This brings the enthusiast into the world of watches in a new and exciting way.’ And tell me about the Museum of Timekeeping that is also on site? ‘The Museum of Timekeeping is an award-winning exhibition of clocks and watches from the Middle Ages to the present day. Alongside domestic clocks and watches it also has high-precision clocks from the last 350 years, even including every version of the “Speaking Clock” telephone service and one of the Greenwich Time Signal clocks, which provided the pips for radio time signals. The first voice of the speaking clock was chosen, X-Factor like, from thousands, and the attractive Ethel Cain became one of the most famous women of her time in Britain.’ I enjoyed looking at the Isaac Newton water clock and the watch worn by Captain Scott on his ill-fated polar expedition of 1912. What most excites you about being Chairman? ‘The thought of the unbroken passing of knowledge from generation to generation. The BHI is a vital part in that process.’ The Museum of Timekeeping is closed for a major refurbishment of its watch collection and will re-open in 2021. To find out more, visit https://bhi.co.uk/
