Top 10 wedding trends for 2017 2017 is already proving to be an exciting year for wedding trends, with plenty of new and unique ideas we haven’t seen before. If you’re in need of some inspiration to ensure you have the Wedding of the Year, then take a read of these top trends by expert wedding planner Nadia from Amulet Weddings & Events. 6. Charity over tradition
With Kate and Will asking for charity donations instead of gifts at their wedding, we knew this trend would be popular. More couples are steering away from the gift list and asking for a charitable donation to their favourite charity. We love this selfless act and are glad it’s here for 2017. Through websites like www.presentaid. org, your gift options are endless – whether your guests buy a goat or a health worker’s training, you could transform the lives of people living in poverty around the world.

1. Trees and foliage
The interest in trees, greenery and garlands to decorate is rife and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. In 2017 it’s the more impactful the better, with weeping willows, draping ferns & elegant birches transforming the wedding reception into a whimsical playground. 4. Wedding planner vs social media
With a huge percentage of brides pinning their dream weddings online, we see an increase in the need to draft in wedding planning assistance to ensure those visions and dreams come to life. Engaged couples are busier than ever and are appreciating the time and cost-saving implications of hiring a professional to turn those pins & Instagram posts into reality.
Make awkward silences and introductions a thing of the past with interactive games for all your guests to enjoy. We’re seeing portrait artists, teamed garden games, stilt walkers and treasure hunts for the little (and big) ones! Make your wedding stand out by adding more creative elements. We’re seeing elaborate themes and unconventional venues by couples not afraid to create a rich experience for their guests. Think large bands, modern garden parties and glamorous performances.

Some couples are moving away from the traditional sit-down meals by creating a festival atmosphere for all to enjoy. This is when the bride and groom meet in private to spend a few minutes alone and is set to be popular in 2017 for both couples and with the Father of the Bride. With other trends breaking tradition, you can truly personalise it and get that moment captured on camera too. This one is fun, romantic and calms the nerves!
We love this one and feel the more Geodes the better! This Volcanic rock trend began in Australia with the striking Geode Wedding Cake, but we see the Geode flooding Weddings in 2017. Add colourful Geode centerpieces, personalised place settings and favours or Geode jewellery to be hot on trend.

This year will see a huge increase in the popularity of destination weddings, with couples transforming their wedding into a luxury, once-in-a-lifetime holiday. Inviting their nearest and dearest and creating full itineraries for all to enjoy, the focus here is on quality time together internationally. And you’ll have no problem convincing wedding planners, photographers et al from home to get involved.

HERE are unlimited options when it comes to wedding cakes these days. Choose from cupcake towers, multi-flavoured tiered cakes, and naked style layers or personalise your own design. Vintage styles are still popular with contemporary floral and botanical styles trending strongly too. Whatever your style, you can find a local supplier to help you achieve your confectionery dreams and treat your guests to a delicious sugar rush before the dancing begins.

Katie Watts runs Couture Cakes and did not disappoint guests at her own wedding with this exquisite multitiered creation incorporating raspberry and amaretto, hazelnut praline, vanilla and carrot sponge layers decorated with cascading edible gold nuggets and dressed with trailing fresh flowers.
Summer fresh
Wistow Catering created this gorgeous summery Victoria sponge tower decorated with fruit for guests to devour. As all their wedding cakes are made to order, they will produce cakes suitable for a gluten-free or Vegan diet.
Cupcakes continue
There’s no stopping the popularity of individual cupcakes, especially at vintage themed weddings. So versatile, so delicious.
Select a style Deal with the cake after all decisions about dress style and reception decor have been made. These elements can serve as a blueprint for the design and structure of your wedding cake. Taste the cake Set up appointments with several bakers for a tasting and to review their portfolios. This is your opportunity to meet bakers and fully understand the range of their abilities. Size it up As a guide, three tiers will serve 50 to 100 guests. Go for five tiers for 200 guests or more. Servings are especially important if you are using your cake as dessert but remember - the more elaborate the cake, the more you will pay for specialist design and labour. Find ways to save On a tight budget? Order a small cake that’s decorated to perfection plus several sheet cakes of the same flavor to actually feed the guests. Real-life wedding
A local love story Rob and Rachel Persani’s spring wedding last year was infused with magical moments, music and laughter. Rob is a well-known radio presenter and, when we spoke to the couple, Rachel was expecting their first baby. Words: Amander Meade The couple
The couple met at an event shortly after Rachel responded to an item on Rob’s radio show. Beginning as friends, romance blossomed during Christmas 2014 when the couple realised they would be together for life.
The proposal
Rob presented Rachel with a diamond ring after first obtaining her parents’ blessing. “Rob proposed under a starry sky at home here in Rutland. We always think of Rob’s late father when we look up at the stars so it was a very special moment for both of us.” The couple were keen to marry as soon as they could and chose a date in May - just four months away. “We found having less time available helped us make decisions quickly. We both love Rutland and Stamford so were determined to use as many local companies as possible.” Rachel’s grandparents and her parents were married in the parish church in Ryhall so the couple were keen to continue the tradition. Once the church was booked, things started to fall into place.

In the evening additional guests joined the ‘Persani Party’ featuring Funk Soul Brother and a DJ set by Rob’s friend Danny Hern. It was Rachel’s turn to surprise Rob with a matching pair of customised Converse trainers to make sure bride and groom could dance the night away in comfort. As darkness fell, an incredible firework display added something really special to proceedings.
The look
Initially daunted, Rachel was put at ease by Katie at Annie Laurie Bridal who helped find her perfect gown by Maggie Sottero – a stunning full length, vintage-style lace dress embellished with seed pearls and complemented by an elegant head piece and veil also suggested by Katie. Rachel’s grown-up bridesmaids wore coral dresses found at Debenhams while her toddler niece wore cream. The groom’s party wore charcoal grey morning suits accessorised in sage green. The couple thoroughly recommend the team at Colin Bell Menswear.

The atmosphere
Rob and Rachel wanted a highly personal, relaxed day with lots of fun. Close family and friends attended their marriage service, which included some of their favourite readings and music. While the couple were driven in a Rolls Royce to Rutland Water for photographs, their guests enjoyed champagne and canapes in the sun-filled courtyard at the reception venue where harpist Eleanor Turner kept them entertained as they waited for the new Mr and Mrs Persani to arrive – announced by a special jingle that Rob had had made in true broadcasting style.
The reception
The Barn Function Room at Barnsdale Lodge proved the perfect venue for their celebrations. “The room was beautifully dressed with drapes and hundreds of twinkling fairy lights. We wanted to create a feeling of a starry sky and really personalise the space.” Following a traditional threecourse wedding breakfast, Rob’s speech

In church, summer roses in soft shades of coral were arranged with gypsophila and eucalyptus by Rachel’s aunt while the co-ordinating bouquets, corsages and button holes were by Greensleaves.
