How’s your summer? Hopefully full of floating, barbecuing, a game or two of bags, and enjoying locally crafted beers, wines, or some of the finest spirits made. But it doesn’t stop there—oh no. Missouri crafters are making hard seltzers, nonalcoholic options (which we run down in this issue), collaboration cocktails, and much more coming.
That’s the thing about crafters—they are always changing and adapting while maintaining a standard of excellence. So do yourself a favor, see what’s new, and don’t be afraid to give it a go!
In this issue, we spotlight breweries with new locations or a great story to tell. We even take a trip across the Mississippi to visit a few of our close Illinois neighbors.
We’d love to hear from you. We’re always looking for stories and pictures from your travels.
So the calendar in the back is full and the weather is great. Adventures await, Missouri! Let’s do it!
Cheers,

Our new limited series release is Heim Beer, a Bohemian-Style Export Lager brewed with 100% Pilsner malt and spicy Saaz hops from the Czech Republic. This bier is crafted exclusively for J. Don't worry, be happy
The MO Better Foundation improves lives across the state
Founded in 2017, the MO Better Foundation is a nonprofit organization that works to enhance the quality of life for Missourians living with physical disabilities. Its vision is to make “more better” the lives of individuals statewide.
To accomplish this mission, MO Better Foundation provides funding to help purchase items that assist in daily living, particularly items related to technology, transportation, and mobility. MO Better fills the void in situations when no other funding sources are available, or when other sources can’t adequately cover the costs of needed assistive technology (AT) or access modification.
THE INSPIRATION BEHIND MO BETTER
The MO Better Foundation was born out of Founder Dave Welborn’s lifetime of experience working with and caring for individuals with physical impairments. Dave has spent more than 40 years personally and professionally dedicated to this work. In addition to volunteering with several nonprofits serving those with disabilities, Dave was an executive for a national nonprofit organization that worked with individuals with muscle wasting diseases, including muscular dystrophy and ALS.
“All people want to feel valued, no matter what their abilities may be,” he
said. “And, let’s face it, we all want to live as independently as we can for as long as we can,” Dave added. “We are very fortunate to be living at a time when technology is being created to assist those with disabilities. It is a great equalizer, as it opens doors—figuratively and literally—that might not otherwise be accessible.”
LIVING MORE INDEPENDENTLY
According to the Assistive Technology Industry Association, AT are “products, equipment, and systems that enhance learning, working, and daily living for persons with disabilities.” AT, often called an adaptive aid, is any piece of equipment—whether no-tech, low-tech, or high-tech—that can help some people with a disability do something they could not do otherwise and makes tasks easier for some people. AT helps in all
aspects of life: education, communication (written and spoken), leisure, work, day-to-day activities, and more. It also increases self-esteem, self-confidence, and independence.
Examples of AT include:
• Physical modifications including ramps, grab bars, and wider doorways
• Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) like software, electronic devices, and picture boards that help a person express their thoughts and needs
• Lightweight, high-performance mobility devices that enable persons with disabilities to play sports and be physically active
• Adaptive switches and utensils to allow those with limited motor skills to eat, play games, and accomplish other activities

A MO BETTER IMPACT THROUGHOUT THE STATE
“We are one of just a handful of nonprofit organizations—if not the only one—that do what we do statewide,” Dave said.
“We are proud of that and are happy with the difference we are making in their lives. It is quite gratifying.” Highlights of MO Better’s impact last year include:
• Provided portable ramp systems to several individuals in the St. Louis area so they can move safely in and out of their houses, including a ramp for an elderly individual who hadn’t left their house for several years because they could not safely get out.
• Donated assistive technology equipment for evaluations to help individuals communicate on their computers, phones, and smart devices using their eyes.
• Donated several pieces of Adaptive Gaming equipment and a 3-D printer to a rehabilitation center in Kansas City used in their stroke recovery and other occupational therapy programs.
• Helped purchase Augmentative Speech Communication device for an individual in central Missouri living with cerebral palsy. The device allows them to communicate with their spouse, children, and grandchildren.
WHERE THE FUNDING COMES FROM
According to Dave, MO Better Foundation does not seek or receive state or federal funding—a choice they made early on.
“The majority of our funding comes from individuals and businesses through peer-to-peer giving, special events, and cause marketing efforts,” he said. “We could not do this vital work without the support of individuals and businesses, large and small, throughout Missouri. We also couldn’t do it without our board, who embody the spirit of community and philanthropy and bring their unique talents, expertise, and energy to the table to help lead our organization and facilitate our mission, vision, and values.”
One of those programs that came
from the board is the MO Better Beer Project, Dave said. This very successful statewide fundraising program came as a direct result of three board members who owned, or had ties to, restaurants, retail operations, and breweries.
The MO Better Beer Project (TM) is a cause marketing program that brings Missouri breweries, restaurants, pubs, and retailers together to support MO Better Foundation’s mission. Participating brewers agree to make their great beer “more better” by donating a percentage of the sales to MO Better Foundation.
Dave notes that there are no upfront costs to participate in the MO Better Beer Project. Breweries can choose any time of the year and either create or designate a signature beer. Each participant agrees to donate funds (generally $1 to $3 per beer sold) to MO Better Foundation for every pint or can throughout the period. Those interested can get more information at www.tinyurl. com/MO-Beer.

Three non-alcoholic beverages you need to try
Are you looking for a fun night out, without booze? As more people choose to reduce or eliminate their alcohol consumption, the non-alcoholic drink market continues to grow. This trend has led to the creation of many non-alcoholic craft beers, cocktails, and other drinks that offer the same complex flavors as their alcoholic counterparts.
Your reason for choosing non-alcoholic beverages doesn’t matter—Missouri has a variety of options crafted right here in the state. WellBeing Brewing Company, Boulevard Brewing Company, and Spring Branch Kombucha all offer a variety of options for every palate.
HEAVENLY BODY GOLDEN WHEAT
One of the most notable non-alcoholic beers in the market is the Heavenly Body Golden Wheat from WellBeing in St. Louis. This American-style wheat beer is a perfect alternative for people looking to reduce or eliminate their alcohol consumption, and it’s all about a refreshing check in with the body.
This beverage is packed with flavor and has more complexity than a lager. Crafted with Cascade and German hops, this beer boasts a citrusy flavor that balances
perfectly with the lighter malts. The resulting brew is dry, crisp, and smooth, with a rich, full-bodied mouthfeel.
In partnership with Schlafly, the first independent craft brewery in St. Louis, WellBeing is expanding its reach to consumers across the state. The
company's mission is to offer people a choice to be present in the moment, connect with others, and be mindful of their health. The Heavenly Body Golden Wheat is a great example of a non-alcoholic beer that does just that. It offers complex flavors and is perfect for

Their combined expertise has resulted in a beer that is rich in flavor and complexity, making it a great choice for those searching for a delicious nonalcoholic beer.
This brew presents a unique blend of fruity and herbal hop scents that give way to hop-centric bitterness, complemented by a balanced malt sweetness and a refreshing, crisp finish. It is made with Magnum, Amarillo, Cascade, El Dorado, Citra Cryo hops, and dry-hopped with El Dorado, Galaxy, and orange peel. The malts used are Munich, Pale, and Wheat. Discover your Main Street USA beer experience in Southern Illinois
Enjoy a trip to these breweries within a 90-minute drive of St. Louis
HOPSKELLER BREWING COMPANY
Situated in the town square that is downtown Waterloo is a story in of itself. Located in a pre-Civil War home, the brewery was severely damaged by fire, but re-opened a year later. Their beer menu is influenced by English styles as well as the Pacific Northwest. You'll find a full menu to accompany your beer of choice. Not-tomiss beers include their Bluegrass Breeze American Wheat (4.5%) and the Across the Pond IPA (7.2%).
The city of St. Louis may be in Missouri, but when it comes to beer, no river or state line can separate us. In St. Louis, beer flows east to west and back again because beer lovers know that breweries east of Mississippi are doing great things. Area breweries in Illinois also share a different feel and vibe.
There is something pretty special about drinking beer in a small town, surrounded by the aesthetics of a historic building, on a street that feels like Main Street USA. That is the experience you'll find at nearly every one of these Illinois breweries.
creating really tasty brews. The town of Millstadt has a historic link to water, and Schubert uses this as the muse for a special “body of water” series of New England-Style IPAs and pale ales. When in the brewery, ask what is available from the series. If you're a fan of that style, you'll be trying some of the area's best.
OLD HERALD BREWERY & DISTILLERY
LIEFERBRÄU BREWERY
When you pull into Red Bud, you’re reminded of the charm of Main Street America, as the brewery is located in the small four-way intersection of historic old buildings downtown. Lieferbräu has 12 full taps featuring a well-rounded beer menu that ranges from pilsners to IPAs to stouts. If you can, visit them in warmer months to enjoy their amazing back patio. Check out the 20th Century Hops and Red Bud Light (4.2%).
MILLPOND BREWING & INCUBATOR
When creating the Millpond Brewing & Incubator, owner Bryan L. Schubert wanted the brewery to be “a gathering place” for everyone. Many would agree that Schubert has succeeded. That, plus
This brewery/distillery is located in a 100-plus year building that once housed a small town newspaper. The decor in its full-service restaurant pays homage to the past, but is all about the present. A robust beer and spirits menu is available daily with eight taps rotating often, and a full line of their spirits is available for tasting and bottle purchases. Put the Brew Fest Brown (4.0%) and Late Edition IPA (6.3%) on your must-try list.

OPERA HOUSE BREWING COMPANY
This is a classic American experience. When you’re visiting Opera House Brewing Company, you’re enjoying a brew in a historic building that could be in any small American town. The fun of going to this brewery is trying new things. They make unique beers and flip their inventory quickly. The best way to keep up with this brewery is through social media. You can find them on Facebook and Instagram.
SCHLAFLY HIGHLAND SQUARE
Schlafly Beer opened its first Illinois expansion in December 2021. The fourth Schlafly brewpub features an 80-seat restaurant and three-season patio that seats 100 guests. Schlafly’s signature beer styles and pub fare are on the menu, as well as specialty beer brewed just for the Illinois location. There also will be an on-site retail experience for Schlafly gear, growlers, brewpub-only special releases, and more. Don’t miss their famous Pale Ale (4.4%) and their renowned Coffee Stout (5.7%).
SCRATCH BREWING COMPANY
This is perhaps one of the most unique brewing experiences in the nation, much less southern Illinois. Scratch Brewing Company is a farmhouse brewery and has been named one of the most beautiful places to drink beer in the world by All About Beer Magazine. Most everything they make is brewed with homegrown and locally farmed and foraged ingredients. The beers on tap are always a unique surprise, featuring ingredients not usually found in beer such as elderberry, ginger, dandelion, maple sap, and chanterelle mushrooms.

The Old Bakery Beer Company was born in early 2015 in the old Colonial Bakery building in downtown Alton, Illinois. It's the only certified organic brewery in the St. Louis area. Aside from the beer, Old Bakery features a full restaurant menu and has become a top destination along the Great River Road. Among their popular beers is the flagship Citrus Wheat (4.7%), brewed with Illinois-grown wheat, lemon peel, and orange peel. Another popular beer to try is their Carrot Cake Brown Ale (6%). U

POWERED BY HISTORY
Beard Engine Brewing
Co. brews up a little British history in southwest Missouri
In a 103-year-old building in the small town of Alba, Missouri, (population 544), you will find one of the most unexpected and unique beer experiences. For three decades, this building was home to the Old Miners Inn French Restaurant, once known as “Paris in the Ozarks.” But in 2020, the space was transformed into a steampunkinspired beer destination: Beard Engine Brewing Co.
Beard Engine Brewing Co. feels as if an entire pub has been transported from another time, or maybe even another world. Old fashioned elements such as the antique brass bar and the replica 1920s British phone box are balanced with more creative and fantastical touches that feel like a science fiction experience in Victorian London.
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Beard Engine has become a beer destination, but it started rather small. A dozen years ago, Nate and Tiffany Artinger brewed their first batch of beer in their garage. At the time, Nate was in outdoor advertising and Tiffany was a massage therapist. Once the brewing fire was lit, however, it quickly grew into a fascination
with brewing and the history of beer.
“My wife was the first person to say, ‘You should consider doing this full time. People need to taste your beer,’ ” said Nate, describing Tiffany as his biggest supporter and partner in a dream that took seven years to achieve.
YOUR BEER, UNPLUGGED
Named as a play on words that highlights the quintessentially British manual beer engine for cask ales, Beard Engine is a place where you are meant escape devices and screens. Wi-Fi is available, but there are no TVs in the taproom. The goal is to encourage conversation and community, according to Nate.
“Our goal has always been to create an unplugged experience for patrons. It’s a good feeling to see strangers enter the taproom but leave as friends,” he said.
In addition to this unplugged environment for patrons, Nate created a more hands-on feel for brewing the beer, too. “We are a steampunk inspired English brewery. We felt it showcased our artistic style as well as our brewing processes. It’s very hands on and mechanical in form,” he said.
To accentuate the steampunk
inspiration, the traditional 4-vessel brewing system is clad in Missouri Black Walnut staves (though the actual system is stainless steel, of course), and there are very unique features that capture a visitor’s eye.
“First time visitors usually get excited when they walk in and see the archways, British phone box, and the overall inviting

English aesthetic you would find in a pub. The eyes are always wandering as you see my coppersmith work in the taproom,” Nate said.
BREWING UP THE PAST
Working continuously to acquire and assemble equipment, Nate and Tiffany focused their brews on traditional ales, old ales, English milds, and stouts. To this day, you can typically find 5 of the brewery’s 10 taps occupied by what Nate described as “English flagships.” These include Just a Bit ESB, Balderdash

Northern English Brown Ale, and Queens Guard London Lager. You also may see some less traditional beers, such as the Penny Dreadful, which is a poblano and serrano-infused amber lager.
The focus on historic beers is accentuated by a weekly Firkin Friday event. Sometimes, the special cask holds a traditional real ale, but Nate also uses the opportunity during Firkin Friday to try something new and fun.
FUTURE EXPERIMENTATION
True to the sci-fi elements of steampunk, Nate is always experimenting with his beers in the hopes of inspiring others to do the same. In addition to the historic styles on tap at Beard Engine, you also will find some more unusual beers.
“We definitely think outside of the box and always want to show what craft beer
can be. We’ve made some wild beers,” said Nate, listing a pickled beet sour ale, a dirt cake milk stout (brewed with Oreos, chocolate pudding, and gummy worms), and even a salted watermelon

cotton candy beer. “We love to pave a way for brewers.”
MORE THAN JUST A BREWERY
While the beers are the main attraction for this destination, it’s clear that Beard Engine has much more to offer.
“We are known for being one of the most inviting taprooms for live music, and our musicians always fall in love with our crowd involvement. We rotate traveling or local musicians every weekend. We have Bingo on Thursdays [and] Trivia Sundays, but our biggest event we bring is our Hot Wheels Races monthly. Patrons and children can bring their favorite non-modified Hot Wheel, and we race them in our 6-lane, 24foot long track,” Nate said.
When they are not brewing or pouring the beers, Nate and Tiffany can be found enjoying their favorite Beard Engine beers. Tiffany prefers the Penny Dreadful, and Nate goes for the Balderdash brown ale. While they always enjoy trying something new, it’s nice to have a comfort zone to come back to, and that is what Beard Engine feels like to many. It’s a comfortable place to return for a visit. U

Beer people are good people
Family, friends, and community are key to 4 By 4 Brewing Company’s Success
Apolestar for well-crafted suds in Springfield, Missouri, since December 2017, 4 By 4 Brewing Company has opened a new location: a modern mecca for the art (and science) of beer brewing and suds sipping. The brewery’s second home is a roughly 13,000-square-foot steel, wood, and glass structure that sits on an astroturf plot on Sawgrass Avenue.
The space is airy and welcoming, thanks to a large wall of windows near the entryway. To the right is a wall of 4 By 4 merchandise, plus oversized, colorful cutouts of brewery images. To the left is the Barley Room, a space for private events complete with a bar and access to all taps. Along the walls of the taproom are hand-painted murals by a local artist.
In the main taproom, a concrete bar dominates the back wall with 22 visible taps and a glowing 4 By 4 Brewing Company sign overhead. Industrial looking high-top and longer communal tables fill the large, well-lit space. Head through the open garage doors to the covered and heated back patio, featuring plenty of outdoor seating and oversized games like Jenga and Connect Four.
It’s hard to miss the massive open concept brewery that ensures 4 By 4 can maintain demand for their wellreceived brews. The design offers guests a feeling of intimacy and a connection to the brewing process. A locally crafted, wooden standing bar faces into the brewery so guests can enjoy a different perspective of the brewhouse.
THE NEW BREWHOUSE
“Our niche is clean beers with an attention to detail,” said Head Brewer Chris Shaffer, who, with his wife Shila, co-owns the brewery with three other couples. The large capacity of the brewery ensures their popular brews are available for on-premise sales and for purchase as cans in local and expanding markets.
The brewery features a 20-barrel Mueller brewhouse paired with four 60-barrel and six 20-barrel fermentation tanks, as well as two 60-barrel brite tanks. Plus, there is one 10-barrel and two 20-barrel oak foeders for aging additional batches. The brewery also uses a 48,000-pound capacity grain silo to store its 2-row base grain. An in-house lab helps to ensure accuracy.

IT'S WHAT THE 4 BY 4 IS FOR
It’s evident that this local tap room and brewing company has a strong community behind it. During a soft opening in March, it seemed every brewery owner and craft beer fan in Springfield came out to support their friends at 4 By 4 Brewing Company.
Founded shortly after a weekend of brewery hopping in Nashville for Chris’s birthday, the four couples decided to try a brewery of their own. Thirteen months later, 4 By 4 Brewing Company opened its first location at 2811 East Galloway Street.
With the opening of its Fremont Hills location, the team has renamed the original haunt The Unhinged Project by 4 By 4—an exploratory space featuring barrel and foeder aged beers, experimental one-off releases, and of course 4 By 4's core beers.
After five-plus years of serving suds and growing their community following, 4 By 4 Fremont Hills opened to satisfy demand for their clean, detailed beers.
Co-owner Derek Shimeall said they picked the new space between two traffic patterns to create a destination brewery. They are proud to be part of the Springfield community and display plenty of Missouri state pride, evident by the “Drink Local” painting across the brewery’s rear exterior wall.
WHERE’S THE BEER?
With the new location, the brewery is set to fulfill the demand for its packaged beers in Springfield and beyond. While plans to expand outside of Springfield were not disclosed, 4 By 4 intends to increase its distribution.
4 By 4’s core beers include Parkside Pineapple, a 6.5% NEIPA; Smooth Criminal, a 9.3% DDH IPA; Strawberry Fields 4 Ever, a 5% crisp, strawberry blonde ale; and Perches, a 5.3% Mexican lager.
4 By 4 Brewing Company Fremont Hills features two 22-tap bars with 19 beers, as well as the new Guys & Dolls cider; Parkside Pineapple NADA, a house-made

non-alcoholic version of the popular Parkside Pineapple; and kombucha. Wine, non-alcoholic slushies, and soft drinks also are available.
The brewery features rotating food trucks each evening, Pints & Music on Fridays at 6pm, and Laptop Friday, offering $1 off all beer pours from noon to 5pm. Check out the events calendar for activities like Yoga on Saturdays, Game Night on Thursdays, Bingo, and more. Visit 4 By 4 Brewing Fremont Hills from 2 to 10pm Monday through Thursday, noon to 10pm on Friday and Saturday, and noon to 8pm on Sunday. U

Charleville Brewery & Winery
Visit for the amazing wine and beer, stay for the unforgettable view
Located in the western part of Sainte Genevieve County, about an hour south of St Louis, is a picturesque winery and brewery with one of the best views in all of Missouri.
Want to make a weekend of it and spend the night? They have a gorgeous refurbished log cabin to rent. Plus, plenty of great food and drink!
At Charleville Brewery & Winery, you can expect to enjoy handcrafted, homegrown wines and beers while also basking in breathtaking views overlooking Saline Creek Valley. The view is so stunning that it’s hard to really capture it in pictures (but we’ll try).
“We are really proud to be a part of this community and are excited to have the opportunity to keep Jack and Joel Russell’s (the previous owners) legacy going for many years to come,” said owner Eric Clements.
HIGH-TECH SERVICE
The four main reasons to visit this gorgeous establishment are the beer, the wine, the view, and their one-of-akind lodging.
First off, the beer! They make some amazing beer. And they have a high-tech way of serving it to you. It’s called an iPourIt wall. It’s an interactive, convenient way to get delicious beer in your glass, and you don’t even have to wait on a bartender to notice you.
How does the iPourIt wall work? You check in at the host stand, they check your ID and swipe a credit card to start a tab. Then link it to a wristband that you just tap against the logo on the beer you’d like, then pour. It’s super easy, quick, and convenient.
The iPourIt wall has 26 taps, four Charleville wines, two Charleville sodas, two Charle-Ritas, and 18 craft beers

made in-house. They always have their four year-round beers on draft: Half Wit Wheat Ale, Hoptimistic IPA, Strawberry Blonde Ale, and their Tornado Alley Amber Ale. Check out www. charlevillemo.com/beer for the current beer offerings.
Their wine list currently consists of four white wines: 2018 Chardonel, Chauvin, Genevieve Rivard, and an off-dry Chardonel. They are currently working on their newest wine vintages, which take time. So to provide a wellrounded enjoyable experience for guests, they have teamed up with Wild Sun Winery and Tavolo Vigneto Winery to offer more wines.
They currently offer eleven out-ofhouse wines including Barbera, pinot grigio, port, and Chianti. Their wine list has something for all wine drinkers.
UNIQUE ON-SITE LODGING AND VENUE
Adjacent to the beer and wine tasting room is a beautifully refurbished 1820s log cabin that serves as a two-room lodge for guests. It can be reserved through Airbnb or on the spot.
They modernized the cabin interior while still keeping as much of the original
elements of the 1820s cabin as possible. This cabin now offers a kitchen, half bath, and living room on the main floor with two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, connected by a spiral staircase. The layout allows two sets of guests to stay at the same time, while sharing the restroom and living space.
In addition to the brewery, winery tasting room, and on-site Airbnb cabin, they have built a brand new, stunning, wedding venue called The View at Charleville. This large space was created to highlight the breathtaking landscape that Missouri Winery Country has to offer. It is available for any and all events. Visit their website for more information.
And if you’re looking for mass quantities of beer, seltzers, or ready-toserve cocktails for a special occasion or for your business, they do contract brewing for other breweries, restaurants, and wineries on-site. They have a topnotch facility where they can make ready to serve cocktails, seltzers, and beer. They are willing and able to make large quantities at any time.

Now that you know all about Charleville Brewery & Winery, it’s probably time to swing by and check out the beautiful views and delicious drinks for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. U

GOOD SHIPS AND WOOD SHIPS
The adventures of Friendship Brewing Company
“
There are good ships and wood ships, ships that sail the sea, but the best ships are friendships, and may they always be.”
This Irish proverb was caringly handpainted on a small section of wall at Friendship Brewing Company’s original East Pitman Avenue location in 2016 when the now stalwart brewery, taproom, and beer garden began.
The fraternal theme of this phrase is evident in the brewery’s convivial moniker. The nautical theme came to fruition years later, when the Mark Twain Brewing Company—nestled on Hannibal’s North Main beside the mighty Mississippi—went up for auction.
According to Friendship co-owner David Brewer, his business partner and Friendship founder, Brian Nolan, heard
through the grapevine that Mark Twain Brewing was up for auction, and the deadline was quickly approaching. The friends did some quick, back-of-thenapkin accounting and decided to, in the paraphrased words of Mark Twain, throw off the bowlines and sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in their sails.
Armed with a plan and a smartphone, Brian placed the winning bid a mere 18 hours after first hearing of the brewery auction, introducing Friendship’s nautical theme.
RENOVATIONS UNDERWAY
Friendship Brewing Company officially took ownership of the 100-plus-year-old brewery on May 2, 2022, and renovations kicked off mid-summer 2022.
Measuring at approximately 14,750 square feet, Friendship BrewingHannibal spans two floors. The property includes some impressive features like
a covered rooftop deck, a 1,600-squarefoot terrace seating area, and a beer garden on the south side of the property with access to the main taproom through two newly installed glass garage doors that will open as weather permits. A pair of boutique bed and breakfast rooms above the tap room also have been added to the second floor for overnight stays. Plans to renovate the second story event spaces are forthcoming. Most noticeable though, is the main entrance and main taproom’s relocation.
Rearranging the flow of the entire space, the taproom and entrance are now at the front of Hannibal’s historic Main Street building. The first floor facade features an impressive array of huge picture windows, providing natural lighting and a striking series of live-action snapshots of Main Street. The well-lit main taproom includes a large, rustic repurposed bar as well as artistically stained concrete flooring.

FOCUSED ON LOCAL OFFERINGS
Friendship Brewing - Hannibal will make use of its 10-barrel brewhouse, helmed by veteran Brewmaster Shawn Herrin. Shawn got his start in professional brewing at the now defunct Trailhead Brewing Company on St. Charles’ storied Main Street in the spring of 2007, finding his way to Square One and Augusta Brewing Company. A graduate of Siebel Institute of Technology and World Brewing Academy, Shawn started brewing at Friendship part time and became the full-time brewer in March 2018. Shawn possesses a world of knowledge about the brewing process and the science behind the craft.
Keeping with its motto “friends making beer, beer making friends,” Friendship Brewing - Hannibal intends to craft a few beers specific to the Hannibal location. Plans include tapping into the local beer community to develop new brews with Shawn’s experience. The majority of the Friendship beers on tap will come from Friendship’s Flint Hill production and tap room facility, dubbed Friendship Brewing Company Fli-Hi.
Friendship Brewing - Hannibal will remain focused on their steadfast support of the Hannibal community at large, especially area first responders and hometown organizations.
Co-owner David Brewer is thrilled to team with Sidekick’s BBQ & Sweets, a Hannibal restaurant that will use the
brewery’s on-site kitchen to provide visitors with exciting, beer-friendly culinary offerings on a daily basis.
Friendship Brewing - Hannibal is expected to open mid-summer 2023. Visit www.friendshipbrewco.com/ hannibal for updates.
BONUS BEER NEWS
In more Friendship Brewing Company expansion news, Friendship Brewing Company has been working hard on a production facility and taproom in Flint Hill, Missouri, just 4 miles from the original Pitman Avenue location. Dubbed Friendship Brewing Company Fli-Hi, the new space will host its Grand Opening Gala Celebration on July 29 with special beer releases, food, music, prizes, and Fli-Hi merch.
The 10,000-square-foot location features a 15-barrel brewhouse, plenty of fermentation tank space, two 15barrel foeders, a canning line, as well as an on-site distillery. The on-site taproom, complete with a hand hewn walnut bar top, will feature 40 taps, including some draft cocktails made with house distilled spirits.
With seating for 200 split between the main floor and a mezzanine bar, the second story also features a stage that can accommodate larger musical acts. While there is a fair amount of breweriana at the Pitman location, the
