Lift Safe’s Bespoke Lifter saves C3 Imaging Lab Cell

Materials handling equipment specialist Lift Safe has given a helping hand to digital printing services company C3 Imaging by providing a custom-built lifter to lift large rolls of materials onto its awkwardly-sited digital printing machine. The challenge C3 Imaging, which provides a complete range of specialist print and graphic solutions to a wide range of customers, had been struggling to find a lifter that had the capacity and the manoeuvrability to lift the 3.2m wide rolls in a restricted space at its Liverpool premises. The lifter needed to be stable enough to lift these long rolls from customers’ racking and capable of moving backwards, forwards and sideways into the one-metre gap behind the machine. The legs also had to be low enough to go under the machine and the lifter had to be light enough so all the staff could use it.
JEI Solutions
see them on page....................3
If this had not been achievable, C3 would have had the expense of relocating the printing machine, which would have meant increased down time and lost revenue. The layout of the printing room
itself may have had to have been altered, while the risk of injury to the operatives from heavy lifting was ever-present. The solution Lift Safe came up with a tailor-made lifting solution. After completing a site analysis, Lift Safe worked closely with C3 to supply a bespoke, easy-to-use 125kg battery-operated lifter to lift the rolls into the digital printing machine, without the working environment being affected. Lift Safe’s bespoke machine is able to swivel, as C3 needed it to go round a corner and drop down to the correct height so that the reels could be released on the back. The reels had to go under the bottom of the machine, so the machine needed to be low-lying and also able to be lifted up and down. Thorite Powers Spray Painting at Karl Labcell introduces a versatile Vella Vehicle Damage Repair Specialists water activity instrument The Karl Vella group’s latest Accident Repair Centre, at Deeside Industrial Park near Chester, houses advanced spray painting technology in the form of two spray booths – a normal static facility plus a state-of-the-art moving booth. Both the spray booths, plus all the compressed airpowered hand tools used by the Accident Repair Centre’s skilled workforce, rely on the performance of a new HPC compressor, recently installed by Thorite. Thorite is the UK's biggest independent distributor of pneumatic products and process systems and was approached by Karl Vella to quote on the compressor installation, plus a new aluminium pipework ring main. Mike Sarsfield, Karl Vella’s Operations Director, took up the story and said, “This is the first time we’ve been involved with Thorite, but we’d heard good things about them within the industry and certainly weren’t disappointed in our choice. They proposed an HPC SK25T compressor package as being the ideal solution. It’s powerful and rugged but also highly energy-efficient, which is something we insist on when considering any capital purchase-and having had experience of other HPC compressors within the Group I was confident that it would be totally reliable. Thorite's quote was competitive, backed by excellent service. Their
Labcell is introducing the Decagon Devices AquaLab TDL water activity analyser that can be used with virtually any solid, powder, paste or liquid. The new analyser features a tunable diode laser (TDL) for very precisely measuring water vapour in the headspace above the sample, hence it is unaffected by the presence of volatiles. engineers took a lot of care installing the ring main out of sight behind wall panels and within the suspended ceiling void and we’ve had no problems whatsoever. We’re now benefitting from two fully operational spray booths, with the improved process times from the moving booth proving to be particularly popular with our customers.” Ross Gowler, Thorite Marketing and Engineering Services Director T +44 (0)1274 663471 ross.gowler@thorite.co.uk www.thorite.co.uk
As well as being suitable for quality assurance and new product development in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and tobacco industries, the AquaLab TDL can be used for applications elsewhere, such as assessing aviation fuel for water contamination. It can even analyse products or ingredients containing the humectant propylene glycol, alcohol or soy sauce. The AquaLab TDL gives readings with

Thorite carried out site surveys and developed a solution centred on two Parker Adiabatic Air Blast water coolers to supply cooling water to the hydraulics of the can making equipment. These coolers consist of copper tube and aluminium Magnesium Fin Coil Blocks, direct drive axial fansets, galvanised steel casings, stainless steel collection trays, local fan isolators and variable fan controls as standard. Adiabatic cooling is achieved by mains water distributed over an evaporative cooling media through which incoming air passes. The cooled dry air then passes onto
a coil for further cooling. This method prolongs the coil life by reducing coil fouling and negates the need for expensive mains water treatment. Contact Ross Gowler, Thorite Marketing and Engineering Services Director T +44 (0)1274 663471 www.thorite.co.uk

Established in 1980, Trace Laboratories was formed by NHS qualified clinical chemists Garry Carter and Peter Lapworth. Both partners had further specialised in toxicology, with particular reference to trace metal and trace organic analysis, with its obvious usefulness in the field of occupational health monitoring. This gives a great deal of experience and expertise in various interconnecting subjects. Peter Lapworth has now retired and is succeeded by Ruth Phillips. After the introduction of the Control of Lead at Work act (1980) and the COSHH regulations, the business was set up with the central aim to offer a specialist service to the occupational health sector. Continued progression and a dedication to the field resulted in Trace Laboratories extending its capabilities in relation to analytical techniques; all of its services can be discussed with each client in order to reach a solution most appropriate for their individual requirements, and all partners welcome the opportunity to discuss these matters.

Industrial Excellence – Disinfection & Decontamination
Touch-less disinfection services Lab Practice is extremely proud to present Sanondaf with its Industrial Excellence 2015 Award. As the only decontamination franchise in the UK, Sanondaf specialises in the disinfection and decontamination markets using revolutionary and completely touch-less disinfection technologies. They provide a touch-less disinfection system that kills 99.99% of harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi and mould. Sanondaf was established in Malta in 2011 and operated as a company owned business until 2014. The UK became the first International Region with Stuart and Ian White acquiring the licence to operate in the UK. The UK head office is now based in Lanarkshire and the company currently has operations in 14 territories including Brighton, Gatwick, London Camden, Watford, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Liverpool, Manchester South, Glasgow, Luton and Stratford.
Stuart White, Director of Sanondaf UK, commented, “We believe that everyone deserves to live, work and play in a hygienic and safe environment. Our Mission is to help people live safely, by reducing the risks associated with infection and cross contamination. We achieve this through our commitment to using the highest quality products, fully trained Sanondaf Technicians and continuous product development. “We offer cost-effective and highly efficient services responding to outbreaks such as Norovirus, C-Diff, MRSA and many more. We can enter premises where there has been an outbreak and have it fully cleaned and back up and running in a couple of hours. We serve a wide and varied range of clients and sectors including hospitals, care homes, schools and nurseries, offices, food production facilities, sporting and social venues.” Touch less disinfectant is highly efficient, eliminates human error and costs less than traditional deep cleaning. Rivalling standard cleaning products and applications that don’t always reach the critical area, Sanondaf targets the source of the problem directly.
When asked to discuss the company’s plans for the future, Stuart concluded, “We have witnessed continuous expansion and enhanced our offer of further treatment services over the years. In regards to the future our aim is to have 100 operational territories across the UK. “We will continue to bring the most innovative products to the market providing excellent customer service. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable and this has driven us to develop solutions for the most prevalent issues using excellent technologies.” Sanondaf attends many trade shows throughout the year including IPS, HCAI, Patient First and both care conferences in England and Scotland. Excellent Construction Products Celebrating its 125th birthday this year, Naylor Drainage is a longstanding family owned business spanning four generations. It has swiftly developed to become a frontrunner in the drainage solutions faction of the widespread construction industry, operating from six separate facilities across the UK to efficiently handle the ever-increasing customer demand. The company’s roots revolved around the manufacture of clay pipes – a product which it has made for over a century – but throughout the course of its existence it has diversified its interests across a broad spectrum of the building and construction facets. Its extensive range of drainage and concrete products are now sold as far afield as South East Asia and Australasia. Its popular line of products includes gardenware (flower pots, patio pots and Malaysian & Mediterranean glazed pots), clayware (high strength vitrified clay drainage products with excellent chemical & heat resistant properties) and plastic (covering surface water drainage and ventilation/cable ducting) as well as Naylor Amco Plastics and other specialist forms which can be manufactured from 2mm up to 200mm in a variety of materials including MDPE, HDPE, PVC, PE, PP, ABS and LDPE. The pipes, tubes and fittings available are cost-effective, durable and simple to install, and they come in a range of different sizes to ensure appropriateness for a whole host of applications. Bespoke solutions ensure that all individual specifications can be seen to, from the provision of development samples and short production runs to special sizes and fabricated assemblies. One of Naylor Drainage’s most recent innovations is the Smart
Gully; a suite which merges sophisticated adapters with Smart Sponge® technology to provide a cost-effective solution for efficient filtration in all kinds of gully. Graham Martin-Loat, General Manager at Naylor Environmental Ltd, explained more, “The Smart Gully was devised in conjunction with the Wiltshire Council, who had been experiencing problems with their gully waste,” he detailed. “As a result they deployed a smart sponge which effectively skims oil contamination off surfaces without interfering with the water flow. “These adapters are becoming increasingly popular, particularly for usage in carparks, roads and highways. In worst case scenarios they should be changed every couple of years, which can be done easily due to their reflective strips. What’s more, you can even sell the waste (once extracted) as fertiliser as opposed to paying an authority to dispose of it, meaning you actually get revenue instead of expense!” To find out more about Naylor Drainage and any of its high quality products and services, get in touch with the group today. Box Culverts over the years For more than 40 years, Milton Precast has designed and manufactured a large collection of box culverts for the civil engineering, commercial, housing, industrial, agricultural, rail and utilities sectors in the United Kingdom.
MANUFACTURERS AND SUPPLIERS OF ENERGY PUMPS FOR THE WASTE WATER INDUSTRY AND BEYOND
During this time, there have been many advances in site practices, who have not only witnessed a large reduction in accidents as health and safety procedures have been put into practice but also the introduction of off-site manufacturing which has meant faster and safer installation methods that have become more cost beneficial to the customer.
ENERGY RAM PISTON PUMPS
Energy Ram and Diaphragm Pumps are designed and manufactured in-house, ensuring the vital quality, toughness and reliability of these essential products. Energy Pumps range of Ram Pumps begins with the smallest 240mm mechanical Ram, through to the 460mm hydraulic Ram Pump. With many different sizes available, it ensures that there is an Energy Pump for most STW applications, including Quarries and Mines where Energy Ram Pumps are suited to tough grit and slit handling. The Hydraulic Ram Pumps are controlled by our own software, also developed “in-house,” so that we are able to tailor the Pump to your exact needs, ensuring maximum performance for the job in hand. Energy hydraulic Ram Pumps are also available in a duplex configuration which allows for higher flow rates, with pressures reaching up to 20 bar.
Production facilities at Milton Precast have also improved with better manufacturing methods that enable them to include dry weather flow channels, end walls, access points, vent holes, inlets, outlets, rungs, angles and splayed ends in their range. The Company has become more customer focused, with qualified civil engineers being employed who can provide AutoCAD drawings, designs, calculations and installation advice and box culverts are now made to the EuroCodes Practice
ENERGY DIAPHRAGM PUMPS
The Energy Maxi, Major and Mastiff Diaphragm Pumps are the invaluable mainstay of many Sewage Treatment Works. They are competent in both primary and humus desludging and sledge transfer duties. Energy Pumps also have many applications in any industries which need to pump difficult sludge reliably and economically. The patented positive flow base of our Diaphragm Pumps, with patented anti-ragging, non-return Valves is designed to ensure that air quickly passes through the base, which then leads to an easier flow of contaminated materials. This, in turn offers low maintenance and ease of repair, when necessary. Energy Pumps are the obvious choice for many maintenance engineers.
which are a set of harmonized technical rules developed by the European Committee for Standardisation for the structural design of construction works in the European Union. To ensure that, Milton Precast meet their objection, they apply a quality management system which has been developed in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 certification and the products are CE marked. Where once, box culverts had to be especially designed and made to order, today Milton Precast have a range of culverts ex-stock readily available as well as a bespoke range where non-standard culverts are catered for. The range of Energy Diaphragm Pumps varies according to the application. The Energy Hydraulic Mastiff Diaphragm Pump is ideally suited for those jobs which require pumping difficult sludge to higher pressures while retaining longevity and reliability, plus ease of maintenance as with Energy Mechanical Pumps. The reliable and versatile Energy Mastiff Diaphragm Pump is based on our highly successful Major. Our Mechanical and Hydraulic Mastiffs allow for greater flow rates and delivery Head. They are capable of processing materials much quicker than the Energy Major Pump, for those tough-handling jobs which require the most robust Pumps. Being the smallest of the Energy Pumps, the Energy Maxi Diaphragm Pump was initially the first to be designed for small STW’s. This Pump has also proven itself to be popular with Abattoirs and Potteries. All Energy Diaphragm Pumps are reliable Flood-Water Pumps and are popular with Farmers for effluent, animal-feed and Agricultural purposes.

Air source replaces ground source at Northeast Eco Centre When the pioneering Hebburn Eco Centre needed to replace its 20 year old ground source heating, the building’s owners turned to a cascade air source heat pump system from Mitsubishi Electric. Designed and built by Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle (STAN) and opened in 1996, the Eco Centre was a pioneering venture to demonstrate renewable technologies and sustainable design.
New video highlights how to reduce energy in your building
With tough legislation focusing attention on energy use in the built environment, how we heat, cool and ventilate our buildings is coming under scrutiny as never before.
The quality Pumps operate in many different environments and industries and are used in a variety of locations such as sewage and wastewater treatment works, quarries, abattoirs, food processing industry, farms and even Super yachts.
Today the Eco Centre remains one of Europe’s most sustainable buildings. The building is the Groundwork Trust's headquarters, which has a mission to support local communities and therefore also lets out 16 office spaces, as well as daily hire of its Board and Conference rooms. The office complex was originally built with a very green ethos in mind, with all materials recycled from sustainable sources, including re-used bricks from a demolished factory, an aluminium roof re-smelted from old drink cans, wood from farmed forests and woollen carpets.
with support for local jobs, job creation and social enterprise. The building offers 16 offices to let, ranging in size from 30sqm to 104sqm. The Eco Centre conference room is renowned as an excellent training venue and is used by both external companies and the various Groundwork STAN teams.
It also has high levels of insulation to reduce the amount of energy needed to heat the building and keep the occupants warm.
The building’s beautifully airy Atrium, complete with internal water feature, also provides a calm environment for impromptu meetings and networking, as well as being a relaxing place to have lunch.
Electricity is generated by an on-site wind turbine and photovoltaic display, helping to ensure that the award-winning project has become an exemplar of sustainability.
All offices have wall mounted trunking including power points and can be adapted for data points. The building has communal kitchens on both the ground and first floor.
Oakes Energy worked with Minden Wood Consultants to find an ideal solution, which turned out to be four Ecodan 14kW air source heat pumps working together in a cascade system.
The Trust has been working for over 30 years supporting the communities across the UK and with the installation of the new Ecodan system, Groundwork STAN and its Eco Centre is ready for the challenges yet to come.

to satisfy clients’ demands in a rapidly evolving property marketplace. The company is an Accredited Installer of Mitsubishi Electric equipment and was aware of the benefits of using City Multi Replace systems to upgrade R22 air conditioning.
Managed by Centro, West Bromwich station was built in 2002 and provides the town with a major interchange between local bus services and also with the nearby Midland Metro tram line.
Yvonne Whelan was full of praise for Costas and his engineers and is also delighted with the clean look of the new equipment and the enhancement in performance. Trios engineers were able to complete the entire replacement in two weeks despite having to work around both the busy bus station and the working offices.
The existing air conditioning system had worked well since 2002 but was getting old and was using R22 refrigerant which is now banned, so the company was aware that it needed to find a suitable replacement. Most rooms in the building complex have lots of glazing and therefore air conditioning is a must.

The new system uses two City Multi Replace VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) air conditioning units for the bulk of the complex, which includes the Centro office and travel shop. Two Mr Slim split systems were also installed to provide air conditioning to the mobility shop at street level. The added benefit of using the City Multi system is that can simultaneously heat and cool different areas so that the energy loads can

Union help draw the curtain on cross contamination
Is it time to combat the Cinderella Treatment of IT?
Union Industries has installed one of its market leading Industrial Curtains at Bradford-based manufacturer Mibelle Ltd to help prevent cross contamination and protect its production area during busy clean down periods.
IT educator and consultant Sysop’s latest survey reveals a need to revisit and reinforce the importance of IT for business. “ITIL and other education is designed to promote IT’s profile and professionalism, with a commercial goal to achieve the alignment of IT with business objectives,” says Sysop Managing Director and Lead Consultant, Stuart Sawle. “There is a continuing need to champion the benefits of IT for business, to correct any drift into Cinderella territory.”
The Bi-Parting Weighted Mobile Curtain System, which stands at 5.25m wide with a 2.9m drop, is suspended from Union’s new stainless steel tracking system and has enabled the company to carry out extensive cleaning without compromising the facility’s hygiene. It features two Vybac windows which

Epoxy Coating halts corrosion attack at Pharmaceutical Company A leading pharmaceutical company in Maidenhead was experiencing severe chemical attack on a pressure pot room floor. The originally applied polyurethane protective coating on the steel/aluminum checker plate floor had failed due to the spillage of flavour oils and the use of caustic soda to clean the room two to three times a day. The company required a solution that would not only repair the damaged floor areas but also provide robust protection against future chemical attack. As access to some of the areas was restricted by pipe work and plant, the company required an application method that could be carried out easily, without the need for specialist tools or equipment.

Radically reduce leakage & pipeline fatigue Uncontrolled pressure transients can be highly damaging to water and wastewater networks.
NDT EQUIPMENT SUPPLIES, X-RAY SYSTEMS & COMPUTED RADIOGRAPHY Euroteck Systems was started in 2000 by the current Company Directors, Mr Collin Sampson – MD and Mr Gary Wehrle – Operations Director, and is a privately owned limited company. Both Directors have many years’ experience working in NDT service positions, and so the business was started to further the competition in this market. This is unlike many companies that grow from a sales background and only later add after-sales, service and engineering capabilities. At Euroteck we decided, right from the beginning, that a high quality after-sales capability would be critical to winning new business. Consequently, our prime directive has always been that we will not sell what we cannot support.
Benefits of controlling water pressure surges: • Reduces the risk of pipeline damage and bursts • Lowers the risk of negative pressure & contamination • Ensures compliance with DWI regulations. Quantum Engineering Developments (QED) are specialists in supplying and installing surge control systems to keep pressure at safe levels.

Euroteck Systems has been ISO accredited since 2003. We are one of a very small number of NDT Service companies who hold this prestigious accreditation. Our scope of accreditation covers all of our activities in the supply, maintenance and calibration of NDT equipment. The accreditation also covers component inspection using various X-Ray technologies. We are also active participating members of both The British Institute of NDT and The American Society for Non-destructive Testing. Before we agree to act as an agent or to represent a company in the UK, we carry out market research on its products and its track record in other countries. If we are happy in terms of build quality, performance and reliability, we then proceed to send our engineers for in-depth product training at the manufacturing centre. We then invest in any specialist test equipment should we not already have it within our well-equipped workshops. Only then do we begin to offer that company's products to our clients. We are passionate about NDT and what it can do to solve manufacturing and quality issues. Talk to us and let us see if we can improve your products, reduce your Q.C. costs, and solve those manufacturing difficulties.

CNConlineauctions.com Buy and sell CNC Machine Tools with confidence
An easy to navigate online auction system for buying and selling CNC machine tools in the UK and Europe, with a location set up in the United States to cater for the global market. CNConlineauctions.com was created with one sole purpose – to help both buyers and sellers manage their CNC machines and equipment with confidence. This is achieved through our modern, user friendly website with a much fairer and clear charging structure plus the option of support through the services of the Assurance+ product. Paul Lee, our founder, developed the idea after holding several successful auctions when he was the owner and Managing Director of CNC Machine Tools Ltd, the company we now partner with to provide the Assurance+ product, but also through extensive market research realised that there was an alarming lack of support when buying machine tools online. From this, the principal of Assurance+ was born.

Thorite Service Engineers are all on Tablets As today’s manufacturing and process systems become ever more technologically complex, it is simply not possible for those responsible for the servicing and maintenance to retain a complete knowledge of all the electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic components involved. Fortunately for the Service Engineers at Thorite, the UK’s biggest independent pneumatic products, process systems and hydraulics distributor, they can carry every detail of customers’ installations literally in the palm of their hands – thanks to the state of the art Tablets they now all work with. Each Tablet is linked to Thorite’s unique Service Management Information System which not only provides full details of the requirements of each job, but can also give precise technical details and illustrate complete wiring diagrams, component lists,
manufacturer information and historical performance data. This makes the Service Engineer's prime role of on-site problem solving both simpler and faster, which in turn means less time spent on each call – and satisfied customers can sign the jobs off on completion.
