Established in 1989 by Severn Trent and sold to the ALS Group in 2013; ALS Environmental has become one of the UK’s leading providers of analytical services, specialising in the provision of environmental testing services across the contaminated land, drinking water, waste water, air monitoring and waste management industries. Designed to help meet associated regulatory requirements and give its customers wholly accurate and legally defensible analytical data, ALS Environmental offers an extensive range of UKAS, MCERTS and DWTS accredited analytical services. “The business has undergone some fundamental changes since joining the ALS Group,” writes Nick Barsby, ALS Environmental’s Sales & Marketing Manager. “We have a much stronger commercial emphasis now and have invested heavily in pioneering analytical techniques to ensure that ALS Environmental is one of the UK’s leading laboratory service providers. This is best shown by our use of OnSite Analytical Tools and emerging confirmation techniques.” One of ALS Environmental’s main specialisms is its microbiological identification capabilities. They were the first UK laboratory to UKAS and DWTS accredit the MALDI-ToF confirmation technique – which provides instant and informative confirmation data for Microbiology clients – and are suitably equipped with one of the world leading databases on Legionella and other water borne pathogens including Pseudomonas, Coliforms and E-coli. The laboratory helps hospitals, hotels and water treatment companies by analysing samples to comply with a range of legal obligations including HSG 274, ACoP L8 and HTM04-01. “As a business, ALS has invested heavily in a range of new analytical techniques

to help us be one of the UK’s premium labs in supporting the European Union’s Water Framework Directive, known as the Chemical Investigation Programme (CIP).” This programme sees the laboratory analyse samples from Utility companies to investigate emerging contaminants around Waste Water Treatment Works, with limits of detection much lower than the current Drinking Water Quality guidance. “The business has always had strong links to the Utility sector and in 2015, we were successful in tendering for a contract with Southern Water to undertake all of their Potable Water testing. This will see us open a new laboratory in Otterbourne, Hampshire to service this contract.” The contract with Southern Water will see ALS Environmental analyse drinking water for over 5 million homes throughout the UK when combined with all of their other current utility contracts. ALS Environmental places a direct focus on social responsibility and is particularly conscious of its movements in regards to its operational standards (covering health, safety and the environment). Implementing effective measures to ensure best practice where possible, the company launched its ‘Operation Sustainability’ scheme in 2010, which integrates a range of environmentalbased programmes and projects into all of its business verticals. “By working with our customers for a significant number of years, we have been able develop a range of analytical services that meet your specific needs, including standard industry, regulatory and bespoke analytical suites,” Nick comments. “We

Water Management Solutions News

Groundbreaker & Firebreaker

Groundbreaker systems were founded in 1999 by Steve Leigh, Roy Fretwell and Ted Terry to break the mould of ‘tradition’ in waters supply and to bring innovation to the water supply industry, using modern methods and materials and technology. Over the last 15 years or so Groundbreaker Systems has developed and produced innovative products such as Groundbreaker®, INSUduct®, NRv2®, and others, all of which have been developed to design out street furniture and leaking water services. This leaves the water supply controls and water meter in a safe, secure and above ground readable position for the home owner/occupier and Water Company alike. Groundbreaker offers the perfect platform for smart, remote access readings that allow the homeowner to really take control of their water usage.

Primary legislation and conditional planning approvals in other parts of the UK indicates that fire sprinklers will be more common in the future than they have been in the past. By definition and design, fire sprinklers literally offer a lifeline to enable occupants of a property to get to safety should an incident occur and can actually restrict and localise fire damage to a property rather than a total ‘burn out,’ thus saving on significant structural repair or rebuild costs. To meet this demanding criteria, Firebreaker® offers a mains-fed control system for domestic fire sprinkler systems, providing safe, accessible, insulated controls yet with a tiny footprint compared with traditional water storage tanks. The system effectively provides an externally mounted ‘fireman’s switch’ for any such service.

From a health and safety perspective, anything which removes personnel from potentially dangerous situations such as operatives in the public highway must be more beneficial?

Firebreaker® can be installed on any aspect of a dwelling, including at head height if added security is required, and is provided with all appropriate fittings and fixtures including protection against frost.

Other advantages of an above ground water meter is that the fact that the any signal from a smart meter located inside the Groundbreaker unit can be up to 1,000 times better than anything located underground in the footpath. This opens the door to a smart ‘app’ facility, allowing the consumer to identify and manage water services in the same manner as they would any other utility.

Whilst Firebreaker® can be used on just about any water supply configuration; approval from the relevant Water Company will be required. For further details on all products available from Groundbreaker Systems please visit: www.groundbreaker.co.uk/ firebreaker or call: +44 (0)1379 741993.

In addition to Groundbreaker Systems’ traditional range of products, the company has also developed a cost-effective solution to meet the requirements of the Welsh Assembly Government who have made domestic fire sprinklers mandatory in new homes in Wales.

Commitment to Excellence

The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme Best Practice UK is extremely proud to present its highly prestigious and industry acclaimed Commitment to Excellence profile to CHAS. Each month thousands of suppliers apply for work with public and private sector organisations (buyers). To win work, they must meet the buyer’s health and safety standards. This, however, can be a lengthy and time consuming process and suppliers can sometimes meet one buyer’s Health and Safety standards but not another. As the market leader for health and safety pre-qualification in the UK, CHAS (The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme) ensures a major reduction in duplication by becoming CHAS approved as suppliers compliance is accepted by all CHAS buyers.

Parsloe Simpson, Greensward House, The Broadway, Totland, Isle of Wight PO39 0BX

Specialist pre-commissioning water treatment consultancy for the construction and building services sector

Problems in closed water, chilled water and condenser water systems often only come to light when a component in the system stops working – by which time the damage could be even worse than it appears. By ensuring that water systems are treated and protected at pre-commissioning stage, many of the more common hazards can be avoided or reduced. • Specialist water quality, microbiological and corrosion monitoring service • Pre-commissioning service for new water systems according to BSRIA regulations • Monitoring and troubleshooting for existing closed circuit systems • Combined expertise of industry-leading professionals.

The scheme is open to the public and private sectors. CHAS membership extends to Health Trusts, Councils, Emergency Services, the voluntary sector, Housing Associations, Government Departments and private companies who have a supply chain. The database stores information on a wide range of contractors and consultants (suppliers) and addresses all categories of work from asbestos

the annual application process and offer advice every step of the way. We are always looking to improve and add value to the services we provide to our buyers and suppliers to ensure all of our clients are entirely happy with the service they receive.” In 2015, CHAS introduced its new online process; Eforms. The efficient electronic application system allows a supplier to submit a CHAS Assessment with supporting documentation online. Not only does this new process make it easier to submit information but it also saves the company time and money. Participating in the CHAS scheme helps both suppliers and buyers. Suppliers show compliance with important parts of health and safety law (the core criteria described in the CDM 2015 regulations) and upon achieving

removal to window cleaning and from catering to residential care.

compliance a supplier is approved to work for all of CHAS buyers.

CHAS was set up in 1997 by a group of health and safety and procurement professionals from across Great Britain. They worked with the Association of London Government (ALG) to develop The Contractors Health & Safety Scheme (CHAS) and in 2001 CHAS became a web-based system. Over the years CHAS has helped many clients and became a limited company in 2013 which is wholly owned by the London Borough of Merton. Today CHAS is the largest and fastest growing Health & Safety Assessment Scheme in the UK covering all sectors and are also a founder member of SSIP.

Inconsistencies are reduced where some suppliers may be judged compliant by one buyer but not another. CHAS also provides guidance on any weaknesses in a supplier's safety management, including how they can improve.

“CHAS started with two main aims,” commented Sarah Still, Business Development Manager Assistant at CHAS. “These were to improve health and safety standards across Great Britain and to reduce duplicated safety applications for both suppliers and buyers. “This mission has been what has led CHAS to become the name you can trust for health and safety assessment. Our friendly and helpful staff are always on hand to guide suppliers through

“There are currently over 800 buyers who have access to the database across both the Public and Private sectors,” explained Sarah. “These include Local Authorities, Housing Associations, Main Contractors, the Education and the NHS sector, amongst others. We also have a database of over 66,000 suppliers from a variety of sectors.” CHAS will be exhibiting at several events throughout the UK this year across several different sectors including Safety & Health Expo, Toolfair, PHEX+, LGA Conference and Homes 2016 to name a few. If you want to know more about the events they will be attending, please check the home page of the website. T +44 (0)20 8545 3838 chas.admin@chas.co.uk www.chas.co.uk

Commitment to Excellence

UNISIG Excellency: Drilling System gives new lift to Aerospace Landing Gear Production UNISIG, the world leading manufacturer of deep hole drilling systems and technologies, has been proudly presented with our highly regarded Commitment to Excellence profile.

500mm (20") and a preloaded drive system together with high horsepower and precisely controlled in-process feedback system for real-time monitoring maintains a high degree of process control.

The specialist machinery provider was established in 1995 by the contract manufacturing service provider Entrust Manufacturing, who wanted to develop its own product line of high performance equipment. Now a widely acknowledged developer of BTA, gun-drilling, trepanning and skiving machines and tooling solutions, UNISIG has progressed profoundly to become an internationally appreciated brand operating from facilities in the US and Germany.

With an 85/94kW (126hp) tool spindle and 58/67kW (90hp) work spindle, the machine productively solid bores up to 200mm (8”) diameters and counterbores to 300mm (12”) diameters. Another productivityenhancing feature is a 950l/min coolant flow for excellent heat reduction, efficient chip evacuation and superior surface finish quality.

UNISIG has been selected as a standout supplier for its extensive range of deep hole drilling machines and accessories, state-of-the-art production facility and efficient network of local suppliers. Its team of highly experienced engineers and manufacturers provide all of the necessary components and offer comprehensive machinery training upon installation in order to better equip its customers for the job in hand. Here at Best Practice, we are particularly excited to discuss the company’s newest innovation, the B700 Drop Bed machine. This new product was engineered specifically to generate the critical, highprecision features on large and irregularly shaped aerospace components such as landing gear struts and has the capability and flexibility to process medium sized, more uniform shaped workpieces with minimal changeover time. The B700 offers an expansive working range with its servo programmable workpiece headstock capability, yet it sports a streamlined overall footprint that makes for space-saving installations and enhanced ergonomics. This ensures superiority over other deep hole drilling machines, which are characteristically oversized, cumbersome and fundamentally inflexible.

This particular edition is the latest in UNISIG’s impressive B-series line; products designed for on-center drilling of cylindrical workpieces with the additional capability of counterboring, trepanning and skiving and roller burnishing processes. This ensures that necessary operations in the production of aerospace parts (such as axles, beams, control rods and components for actuators) can be completed with unparalleled ease and efficiency. UNISIG’s systems and technologies are applicable for precision-focused metalcutting industries such as the aerospace, automotive, energy, oil & gas and medical markets. If you would like to know more about how this powerful equipment can impact your organisation for the better then get in touch with UNISIG today. Alternatively, you can visit the team at the NEC Birmingham (Hall 5/5684) from 11-15 April when they will be exhibiting at MACH 2016. How secure is your RFID Access Control? A lot of false information has been published by companies that use RFID technology. Credit card companies, wanting the speed of a wireless transaction, claim it is so safe that a pin code is not needed. They have expanded RFID use into hundreds of millions of credit cards and debit cards worldwide. This has increased transaction speed and reduced transaction time, but has left cards vulnerable to electronic pickpocketing. If you touch your purse or wallet containing more than one contactless card against a scanner, this can allow your other cards to be charged that you didn’t intend and you could to be charged twice! The technology that is used to allow contactless card payments is known as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). Due to the simplicity of the technology, criminals can easily and cheaply construct their own clandestine RFID readers. This means they can simply scan past your purse or wallet with the hidden card reader and access your private and financial information quickly and silently. Protect yourself from payment fraud and identity theft. Did you know that many credit cards, transit cards, government identification cards, school, hospital, and company identification cards, and all passport cards have a RadioFrequency-IDentification chip embedded inside them? These chips allow vendors to scan your credit card quickly at the checkout and allow authorities to scan your ID or passport card from a distance, making border crossing a little faster. However, if your credit cards or identification cards were scanned nefariously, it also makes stealing your identity a whole lot easier. Thieves can purchase scanners online or build their own and steal your information right through your regular purse or wallet!

The latest developments in Advanced Process Control in Evaporator/ Spray Drying Spray drying is used in the manufacture of a wide range of high-value items, from dairy products to food flavourings to pharmaceutical ingredients. It is a complex and energy-intensive process, requiring high levels of manual intervention from well-trained, experienced operators. To remove water safely – without damaging critical product properties – requires significant capital investment. But once the plant is running, it can be difficult to increase capacity as demand grows. Perceptive Engineering has developed a suite of software and engineering tools to increase the yield, throughput and efficiency of the entire drying process,

moves continuously during production. This constant fine tuning of the process would be impossible for an operator to replicate, which is why more manufacturers are exploiting the technology to gain a competitive edge.

resulting in lower energy consumption, more consistent product quality and less waste. This software-based upgrade is a low-cost, low risk alternative to capital expansion, typically offering a return on investment of 3-6 months.

increase the risk of fouling. An over-aggressive start-up on the evaporator will increase fouling very early in the production run; this will shorten overall run-time before cleaning is required, reducing overall equipment effectiveness.

Both the dryer and evaporator have three key phases of operation: the crucial start-up phase, when product feed is first introduced to the process unit; normal operation, when disturbances such as tank changes and shifts in ambient temperature or humidity give rise to process and quality upsets; unit shut-down, when the feed product transitions from concentrate back to water.

In the dryer, aggressive starts frequently lead to either scorched product which fails quality tests, or over-moist product which blocks the dryer. Either way, production capacity is severely compromised and waste or re-work rates are high.

This article will describe one of the solutions developed to address the first critical stage: process start-up. Each production unit is brought online through a series of small, carefully-controlled step-changes. With the Evaporator, the challenge is to avoid conditions that

Model predictive control (MPC) has been used in the optimisation of spray dryers and evaporators for more than twenty years. Through a series of response step tests and using sophisticated modelling techniques, MPC can determine in advance the sequence of control moves necessary to push the evaporator or dryer closer to their constraints, and then keep them there. MPC is able to execute multiple coordinated control

Perceptive are renowned experts in deploying MPC programmes for a wide range of global clients. They have been selected by Abbott Nutrition, Danone and Wyeth as APC provider for the manufacture of high-value infant formula in North America, Europe, Singapore and China. Perceptive Engineering has now perfected the techniques for taking control of both the evaporator and dryer much earlier in the production cycle, by modelling – then optimising – each unit as it moves through the start-up phase and on to stable operation. This expertise has been captured in the latest release of Perceptive’s award-winning software. The system runs within a standard Windows® environment and interfaces to client systems using standard protocols such as OPC or ODBC. Fluid Optimisation Technology How do engineering companies view the use of metalworking coolants? It’s fair to say that in some cases these fluids are treated as the poor relation in the machining process, and at best are seen as a necessary evil. But could some companies be missing out on increased productivity and profitability by not optimising the use of their coolants; SIEBEC thinks so. The SIEBEC group has been designing and manufacturing quality pumps and filtration equipment for industrial use since 1953. In the UK, the metal finishing industry has been the sole beneficiary of the SIEBEC products until this year with the launch of the M-PURE® range. Aimed at the machine tool industry and its use of cutting fluids, M-PURE® is centred

on the philosophy of Fluid Optimisation both in-use and at the end of the lifecycle. So what is Fluid Optimisation, what is the SIEBEC M-PURE® range, and how do the two elements fits together? Optimisation can be described as, ‘finding the most cost-effective or highest achievable performance under the given constraints by maximising desired factors and minimising undesired factors.’ Relating this to fluid use SIEBEC has examined the different facets of coolants in the machining process from the beginning to the end of its lifecycle. Primasonics Acoustic Cleaners solve the problems Primasonics® Acoustic Cleaners are widely employed wherever ash, dust and powders are generated, processed, stored or transported. This range of acoustic cleaners has been of tremendous benefit in both preventing material hang-up and ensuring maximum, continuous material flow in silos and hoppers. Indeed some of Primasonics most challenging but successful applications were within silos which contained dry materials such as cement. The two main problem areas within hoppers and silos are: ■■ Ratholing – where the material builds up on the sidewalls causing severely reduced ‘funnel flow,’ which also restricts the silo being used to its full storage capacity

textures and colours depending on your application requirements.

■■ Bridging – where the material bridges over the outlet area either severely restricting flow or stopping it completely.

Irrespective as to whether the bulk storage facility is under 500kg or over 30,000kg capacity Primasonics® Audiosonic™ Acoustic Cleaners have eliminated both of these problems. Typical examples range from small 20 tonne capacity internal pre-packing hoppers right up to 30,000 tonne capacity cement silos. Acoustic cleaners are extremely simple in their operation, requiring only normal plant compressed air for their initial energy source. Compressed air enters the Wave Generator and forces the ultra-high-grade titanium

Ecolab Contamination Control, a worldwide provider of leading products and services for the control of microbial contamination in the cleanroom environment, has updated labels and documentation for its entire fluid product range. This is an important step to meet changes to industry regulations which came into force on 1 June 2015. Ecolab notified their customers of this change in December to ensure compliance with the Classification Labelling and Packaging Regulation (CLP), a European regulation based on recommendations from the UN initiative, Global Harmonised System for classification (GHS), aimed at

standardising hazard labelling worldwide. These requirements are imposed on EU manufacturers by the European Commission and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The Regulation states that from 1 June this year all products were legally required to display new hazard symbols developed under the CLP. From this date customers who

purchase an un-supported or noncompliant product may be forced to make changes, or potentially cease production of their own products. Although this means some hazard classifications will change and this will be clearly evident on the new labels as well as within updated Safety Data sheets and product certificates, Ecolab Contamination Control has confirmed that it will not be altering any product formulations because of CLP. For this reason any changes only affect labelling and associated documentation. T +44 (0)2920 854390 info@ecolab.com www.ecolab.com

According to a recent HSE report for 2012-15, the UK’s annual average injuries reported in the workplace amounted to 603,000 individual incidents. For 2013/14 alone, current injuries and ill health in workers in the UK cost a staggering £14.3 billion. One contributing factor to this substantial figure would be the alarming increase in claims and the rise of ‘claims culture.’ ‘Claims culture’ has created a headache for organisations of all sizes in the form of increased liability insurance costs. This worrying trend cannot only be derived from an increase in claims frequency, but from alternative factors such as increasing court awards, wider financial market conditions, slower settlements, and more vehicles on the road.

Health & Safety Management Software An obvious solution for an organisation to reduce the number of claims and insurance premium would be to employ a safety culture in order to promote efficient companywide health and safety. Saving on the cost of employee accidents and ill health is an investment in the future of your business. Driving a safety or reporting culture on potential hazards within an organisation has shown to reduce the number of incidents. Composites UK launches new online Health & Safety Management System Composites UK, the Trade Association for the UK composites industry, have launched its new online health and safety management system (HSMS). The HSMS, developed in cooperation with HSE, has 2 parts: a public section with critical information relating to H&S in the composites sector with links to relevant documents and websites; and a members-only self-audit tool – health and safety made simple.

As chair of the HSE SiMPLC steering group (‘Safety in Manufacturing Plastics and Composites’), which has the overall aim of improving health and safety practice in the plastic and composite manufacturing industries, Composites UK has supported the initiative since its inception in 2010. From this the Association published its action plan in 2014 and as part of this have been developing, over the last 12 months, the new

online health and safety management system (HSMS) for the composites industry. This new tool is easy to use and will help companies comply with the law and prevent workplace accidents and ill health. It has been

designed to provide the essential information and templates a company needs to operate safely within the UK composites industry. Working through each section a company can ensure they get their essential documentation and procedures in place. The tool is aimed at those starting up or running a small to medium-sized business, those who have been appointed as a safety representative in a larger organisation, employees and those

who want additional advice on how to control workplace hazards. To access the HSMS, click: www.compositesuk.co.uk/ health-safety-management-system To find out more about Composites UK and becoming a member, visit our website: www.compositesuk.co.uk

The International Maritime Organisation’s Solutions for the process (IMO) ship legislation – are you prepared? industry With the environment on board a ship being notoriously poor; from intense shock and vibration, to a salty atmosphere, hot engine rooms and cold rooms positioned near the outside of the ship, it faces an extremely harsh environment. What’s more, as every ship carries critical electrical equipment, it’s vital that regardless of whether the power supply is coming from its electric drive, generators or from shore power, that all power is protected by a UPS and one that can handle such harsh conditions.

To enhance the criticality of the matter, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has ruled that all ships must be fitted with Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) by July 2018, and all ECDIS must have Marine UPS backup to comply with rules 15.1 and 15.2. This legislation shows that having a UPS is no longer an option, it’s a necessity. The Harland ProtectUPS® is a range of rugged power protection systems that safeguard against any mains power failure, particularly those that are subject to harsh or unmanned environments. In the event of a power cut, the system switches seamlessly to backup

batteries without interrupting the power, ensuring there is no disruption to normal service. On restoration of a company’s power, the system automatically switches back to mains power and begins to recharge the batteries. As an independent supplier of off the shelf and custom manufactured rugged UPS, Harland Simon UPS offers a comprehensive range of marine approved products that can meet all marine classification societies such as ABS, DNV GL and Lloyd's Register. Additionally, the Harland ProtectUPS® – Marine Type Approved (MTA) range is now type tested to meet the standards of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), covering the highest standards set by all twelve approval authorities, thus allowing the Harland ProtectUPS® – MTA to be installed on all vessels quickly and easily. www.harlandsimonups.com

metres. Continuous lubrication impulses of 0.5ml supply the lubrication point with oil or grease up to NLGI 2 at a pressure of up to 10 bar. This action is gentle on the lubricant, as only the dosing volume is placed under pressure. The intelligent pressure booster also continually signals its operating state.

Easy to install and use The simalube® IMPULSE starts operating as soon as a battery pack is inserted and the lubricator is screwed on. The simalube lubricator sets the dispensing intervals. Its dispensing time may be corrected at any time and the simalube® IMPULSE will automatically adjust to the new dispenser setting. When changing a lubricator, the simalube® IMPULSE remains firmly affixed to the lubrication point. Group HES supply Service Systems We live in a world of mechanical efficiency with pressure placed on productivity and output, with strict deadlines, increasing customer demand and revenue goals. The key factor to meeting these goals is the reliability of the production line. Maintenance and production continuity is imperative to achieving desired output. However, lubrication is often overlooked, in particular, the importance of consistently applying the correct amounts of lubrication at specific intervals to each of the required vital areas. Unfortunately, very often, automatic lubrication systems (ALS) are only considered after it is actually too late; the machinery has failed or is irreversibly damaged. No amount of preventative maintenance will ensure the manufacture-proposed life span of the machinery without adopting a philosophy that is focused on protecting the machinery by applying the correct lubricants to the required areas from the offset. Therefore,

machines will have to be replaced at quicker intervals increasing pressure on cash flow and forecasts. By fitting an ALS, you are investing in the efficiency and predictability of your manufacturing process. An ALS not only increases the asset’s life span, it ensures efficacy and reliability. By adopting this approach, many companies have successfully created predictability, ensuring their team of engineers are focused on their specific roles and not reacting to unexpected failures. If you would like to learn more about automatic lubrication or to plan a demonstration, please contact the experts on email: enquiries@grouphes.com or call HES Lubemec on: +44 (0)1242 731637.

Thorite Compressors help Kite Packaging named as one of the ‘1,000 Gauge Time and Tides companies to inspire Britain in 2016’ Thorite, the UK’s largest independent distributor of pneumatic products and process systems has been a regular supplier to the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) since the 1970’s, providing oil-free Jun-Air compressors used across the UK Tide Gauge Network (TGN), which is maintained on behalf of the Environment Agency by the NOC, working out of two centres in Southampton and Liverpool. The TGN was formed in 1953 following violent North Sea storms, which caused extensive flooding along the east coast of Britain, killing 307 people. This event made people realise that there was a need for a coordinated system of sea-level monitoring and forecasting around the UK coast and as a result, a number of previously unrelated tide

gauges were brought together under the auspices of the TGN. Most of the tide gauges in the current TGN are bubbler systems. These consist of a metered flow of compressed air feeding through a supply tube to an underwater cylinder located well below the lowest tide level so it can measure the full tidal range. Each quiet and compact Jun-Air compressor supplies a regulated, dry supply of compressed air to a pneumatic control panel which in turn supplies the bubbler gauge measuring point. Disinfection & Decontamination News

Touch-less disinfection services The first European touch-less disinfection and decontamination franchise is best known for providing an Advanced Infection Prevention & Control system that kills 99.99% or higher of harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi and mould (including common pathogens such as Norovirus, Flu, Salmonella, E-Coli, MRSA and high risk infectious agents such as Ebola, Hepatitis, TB and HIV). The award-winning business was formed in Malta in 2011 and a UK presence was established in Lanarkshire three years later. In just over 12 months the company managed to develop 15 franchise territories throughout the UK, including the major conurbations of London, Manchester, Liverpool Newcastle and Glasgow, and so holds the unique status as the only decontamination franchise in Europe. “We believe that everyone deserves to live, work and play in a hygienic and safe environment,” commented Stuart White, Director of Sanondaf UK. “Our mission is to help people live safely by reducing the risks associated with infection and cross contamination. We achieve this through our commitment to using the highest quality products, our fully trained

Sanondaf technicians and a passion for continuous product development.” The Sanondaf system is very simple in its application, and is a highly efficient and effective way of clinically disinfecting high risk areas. It is also 100% environmentally friendly, and poses no risk to people, pets or plants. The patented chemical and application process is also completely non-corrosive, meaning electrical and electronic devices can be treated safely (as well as areas of any sizes and surfaces) with no residue remaining after application. The ability to treat 100% of any area and its contents is a tremendous advantage in minimising the risk of an infectious outbreak caused by cross contamination. “We offer a cost-effective and highly efficient service, providing our service on a preventative basis, usually at monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly intervals, based on the bespoke requirements of the client,” Stuart continued. “We can enter premises encountering an outbreak and have it fully disinfected and back up and running in a matter of hours. The decontamination of a 5 star leisure resort during 2015 was the most significant commission

undertaken, after they encountered a Norovirus outbreak so severe that they had to close their resort. Sanondaf were able to minimise the closure period, and help get the resort operational and open to over 500 customers within the week. “We serve a wide and varied range of clients and sectors

including hospitals, care homes, nurseries, offices, vets, haulage, hotel, pub & catering venues, sporting and social venues. The touch-less application innovation is a tremendous way of minimising human error and is often a cheaper alternative when compared to more traditional deep-cleaning methods.

“I am so proud of our team, franchisees and customers who have all played a part in helping Sanondaf UK achieve this award. We are delighted with what we have achieved and we look forward to this year being yet another exciting step in the growth of the Sanondaf brand, as we continue to grow our client base across every sector. Our ultimate goal is to have 100 operational territories across the UK. Sanondaf will continue to bring the most innovative products and services to the market, accompanied with our highest levels of customer service.” Contact T +44 (0)1236 702028 info@sanondaf.co.uk www.sanondaf.co.uk
