Add Holiday Sparkle with Hair Accessories

Written by Expert Contributors Michele Quinn & Brittany Naab of Blush Salon

Holidays include lots of family and friends gatherings, some festive and glitzy, others casual and relaxed. No matter the venue or mood, you want to look your best. Now’s the time to schedule your appointment for a fresh hairstyle and perhaps some color highlights. But also remember you can create lots of new looks and refresh last year’s holiday outfits with all kinds of hair accessory options.

For straight or curly hair, it’s easy and inexpensive to add sparkle to your look with glam bobby pins, glittery clips, sequined bows and beaded headbands and ribbons. Treat yourself to a few hours browsing accessory and department stores and you’re sure to find a new hair accessory for each of the 12 Days of Christmas! Thrift and vintage stores also offer great and often inexpensive finds that are sure to bring compliments and also start some interesting conversations.

This is the one time each year you can never wear too much sparkle! A jeweled ponytail holder can turn your simple look into something special. This is also the season for surprises, so create one by wearing a high ponytail and clipping a ring barrette in the middle of your pony’s length.

Get creative! Feather clips can add glamour and mystique. Don’t underestimate how pretty you can look with a classic red or green velvet ribbon or bow in your hair. A plain low bun becomes a fashion statement when bedecked with an assortment of regal colored-stone bobby pins. Fabric-covered barrettes can bring out the best in your outfit’s colors and fabrics. Metallic leather hair bows will show you’re ready for some festive fun.

Some glint in your hair is very attractive. Silver, gold, rose gold, pearl and rhinestone necklaces and gift wrap ribbons can be woven into hair buns and braids, to blend nicely with your hairstyle and outfit. Just be careful not to overdo it, especially with jeweled holiday hair accessories, which are best placed on one side.

Whether you’re going for an elegant, sophisticated and classy look for New Year’s Eve or a casual night out with old friends who are “home for the holidays,” don’t just think of what YOU will wear; think about what YOUR HAIR will wear!
