RIVERS RUTHERFORD, MISSISSIPPI ’89, TO RECEIVE THE 87TH OXFORD CUP With a name like Rivers Rutherford, it’s no surprise this soulful storyteller and recent Nashville Songwriter Hall of Famer was destined to become one of music’s most talented and accomplished singer-songwriters. Rutherford came out of the gates swinging at 21 years old, landing his first cut with American legends Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson. He went on to write hit songs for Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Rodney Atkins, Montgomery Gentry, Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire and countless others. What followed the dozens of hits were multiple Grammys and Country Music

Association and Academy of Country Music nominations, including the coveted awards for Country Song of The Year and Songwriter of The Year. Known for his gritty southern style, Rutherford is unapologetic about his faith, devotion to his family and making great music. His illustrious decades-long career, the countless hits to his credit and his ability to write music that is timeless, are testaments to a man that has come to be respected as an artist in his own right. Tonight’s presentation of the Oxford Cup will take place at the College Football Hall of Fame. The Oxford Cup, a smaller version of the Pater Knox golden anniversary Loving Cup, is Beta’s highest honor for professional achievement.

EMCEES AND SPECIAL GUESTS // FRIDAY New Foundation Board Director Karl Chaio, Texas A&M ’90, will emcee today’s Awards Luncheon. Witness the recognition of extraordinary volunteers and outstanding campus achievements.

Tonight at the College Football Hall of Fame, General Fraternity President Tom Cassady, Cincinnati ’76, hosts the 87th presentation of the Oxford Cup, Beta’s highest professional honor.

JEREMY POINCENOT KICKS OFF CONVENTION WITH INSPIRING KEYNOTE ADDRESS At the Convention Kickoff, attendees were inspired by the story of Jeremy Poincenot, Sigma Phi Epsilon. As a 19-year-old student at San Diego State University, his life was altered by a sudden Lebers Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON) diagnosis. Having suddenly become legally blind, Jeremy’s story is one rooted in the choices made every day. Through his own hard work and perseverance, he has been able to find success not only for himself but in raising awareness for LHON. More importantly, he came to understand the need to reach out for support from his friends and family. “Do we take enough time to look at our fraternity brothers, family and friends around us and ask if there is anything I can do to help them?” he questioned to the audience.

His fraternity brothers inspired him to stand for his cause. His dad supported him as he returned to the one thing that he loved: golf. Jeremy did not back down in the face of adversity. Instead, he began a campaign that has raised over $350,000 through his annual fundraiser, Cycling Under Reduced Eyesight (C.U.R.E Ride). And, he went on to become a two-time world champion and eight-time U.S. Blind Golf Champion thanks to the support he has asked for. “We need to enjoy our experiences more in the present moment and enjoy the people around us.” A simple ask for help can make a difference to those around us, as their support can be beneficial for them as well.

“Alone we are limited, together we are limitless.”
