Biography of Beth Grosshans
As a child psychologist, Beth Grosshans has worked with hundreds of families in the past two decades Specializing in child psychology, she knows that it can be difficult for parents to find effective solutions when they feel like they have tried everything without success. Hearing the cries of parents who are struggling to help their children, she has provided them with strategies for strong, loving, and effective parenting skills needed for success in raising self-controlled, respectful, and cooperative children.
Many parents have shared their stories, including instances of children who struggle to control their temper or are difficult to reason with Others have expressed frustration with disrespectful and demanding behavior There are also instances of children dealing with anxiety that can make even simple tasks like going to school or attending a birthday party feel like an ordeal. Issues with sleep, eating, and toileting are also common, and many children may avoid, refuse, or make intense demands of their parents
When it comes to mastering basic life skills like self-control, respect, cooperation, sleeping alone, and eating, many parents feel lost and unsure of how best to help their children. As a caring professional in the industry, Beth has considered it her goal to provide these families with the answers and strategies they need to overcome these challenges
Academic and Professional Background
Dr Grosshans completed her B A in Psychology at The University of Cincinnati and later pursued further education at Ohio State University, earning her Master’s degree and Ph D in Clinical Child Psychology.
After graduating, she began an internship at Boston Children’s Hospital and Judge Baker's Children’s Center psychiatric inpatient unit, where she was able to her academic skills to use in a professional setting Gaining invaluable knowledge at Harvard Medical School from some of the best minds in the field.
Private Practice and Imbalanced Family Power (IFP)
In 1994, Beth Grosshans established her own private practice During this time, in her work with individuals struggling with emotional and behavioral issues, she observed a crucial trend: when a child has more power than their parent, it can lead to emotional and behavioral disorders This phenomenon, which she dubbed Imbalanced Family Power (IFP), was not just a passing phase but a persistent and damaging dynamic in family relationships. To address this issue, she developed a successful five-step strategy called The Ladder to Effectiveness, which has proven to be transformative in helping parents regain appropriate familial power and leadership. As a result, many families have been able to restore harmony and health to their relationships
Academically and Professionally
In addition to her clinical work, she also had a passion for education that extended beyond consulting For more than 15 years, she taught child development at the Princeton Center for Teacher Education, sharing her experiences and knowledge with Montessori educators across the country making an impact on shaping the next generation of caregivers.
Providing proven parenting approaches to schools nationwide for over two decades and sharing her extensive knowledge and experience has led her to consult for schools and treatment facilities, creating individual treatment plans for fellow mental health professionals
