In recent decades, southern Ghana has seen tremendous development, but most of the people in central and northern Ghana still live in extreme poverty and lack sufficient education. Ghana is very much a “Christianized” nation, but the people living in the central and northern regions have limited access to the Gospel because Islam has been dominant there. In the spring of 2015 Nepal was devastated by a series of powerful earthquakes. Thousands of people were killed and hundreds of thousands of people were displaced. As time has passed, many Americans have forgotten about Nepal and the significant need. The Nepali people are still dealing with the effects of the quakes, and will continue to do so for many years to come. We have partnered with a network of local churches in the Kathmandu region to serve the people living in that region. Centuries ago, the land that is now modern-day Turkey, was the “cradle” of the church. It is the region where the Apostle Paul traveled and ministered, and it was the epicenter of Christianity in the first century. But today, more than 99% of the population of Turkey is considered unreached. Your team will travel to different cities and visit ancient Christian sites. You will focus primarily on prayer-walking and a variety of different forms of relational ministry, looking for opportunities to share the Gospel with Muslims in a personal one-on-one setting. Slovenia is known for its rich culture and a long history that predates the Roman Empire. As far as religion, Slovenia has a strong Catholic heritage but, realistically, most Slovenes don’t actually believe the Bible. Eastern thought, nominalism, and atheism are all increasing at a rapid rate. There are very few Evangelical churches and there is a growing disdain for organized religion. In the Oklahoma panhandle is a city called Guymon. The Guymon area has a huge pork processing plant and several large hog farms. The pork industry has lots of available jobs which have attracted several thousands of immigrants from places such as Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Laos, and Burma. Many are fleeing from wars and conflicts, or have come from refugee camps. People from all over the world are coming to this small town; many are from unreached people groups. Geographically speaking, Alaska is the largest state in the country (more than twice the size of Texas). Nearly 85% of all Mexicans identify with being Catholic, but the Pew Research Center has discovered that only 40% of Mexicans actually attend church regularly, and less than 12% read the Bible on a regular basis. The percentage of Brazilians that live below the poverty line has nearly tripled in the last decade, and more than 12 million people live in the “favelas” (the densely-populated slums and shantytowns). Brazil holds a special place in our hearts because it was the nation where Bethany sent its first missionaries, more than seven decades ago.
