BETHANY COLLEGE

COVID-19 PLAN FOR SAFER SWEDES

The health and safety of our students and employees is our top priority. As such, Bethany College established two coronavirus teams. One team of faculty members was created to focus on classroom expectations, accommodations, and safety within classroom spaces and the second team has planned for the implementation of safety precautions for all aspects of campus safety beyond the classroom. This plan incorporates recommendations of both campus C Teams, and is specific to Bethany College’s physical location in Lindsborg, Kansas; student body size, class size, community and county population, health metrics, rate of COVID-19 spread, and absence of a mass transit system. Also incorporated are required health precautions set by external bodies who administer participation in collegiate competitions. Most of all, Bethany College has leaned on local health officials, guidelines and recommendations of Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), McPherson County Health Department (MCHD), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), American College Health Association (ACHA), National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC). In addition to safety for all, this COVID-19 plan was also developed in consideration of Bethany College core values: hospitality, community, integrity, servant leadership, excellence, and sustainability. Based on a commitment to these core values, all students and employees have been asked to acknowledge that they share in the responsibility to follow health precautions. If you have general questions about required health precautions on campus, or this plan, please email: Amie Bauer, Vice President of Administration | General Counsel, baueral@bethanylb.edu Anna Waugh, Director of Residential Education and Services, waughaj@bethanylb.edu Josh Snider, Director of Campus Safety, sniderjd@bethanylb.edu Kolby Martin, Health Services, healthservices@bethanylb.edu Cabinet Members: Dr. Beth Mauch, Interim President, Dr. Adam Pryor, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs; Amie Bauer, Vice President for Administration/General Counsel Matt Pfannenstiel, Vice President for Enrollment Management, Krista Harris, Chief Financial Officer, Clair Oleen, Interim Vice President of Advancement, Laura Moreno, Dean of Athletics Communications can be directed to Brittany Torres, Communication Coordinator at torresb@bethanylb.edu Note: The college will not release private health information of specific students to the media.

Dutch doors have been installed in some areas of campus to reduce contact with high touch surfaces, better direct unexpected or unplanned public or visitor contact, and limit concerns. Signage to prohibit, limit or allow contact based on individual comfort levels has been provided to employees to post as they choose on office doors. Regardless, anyone entering an office should knock and give an employee time to apply a face mask. Buildings are asked to display physical guides to remind of required precautions especially masks and social distancing. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to use individual water bottles to minimize touching of fountains.

Also see Department Protocol (page 14) EDUCATION Prevention cannot occur without education on the facts of COVID-19. Signage is posted in all parts of campus to educate, inform and remind of the importance to follow health precautions, follow proper hygiene and remain aware of symptoms. Campus updates are provided to students, employees, through campus email and if necessary a Swede alert. The community, and parents of students will be educated on modifications to health precautions and relevant information through news releases. A COVID-19 page (link to page) was added to the college website in March and provides information specific to different cohorts, and also frequently asked questions. Other Student Education ● ● ● ●

A supervisor and/or coworker may assist in disinfecting a specific area as they wish but are not required to do so. As appropriate for the most effective mitigation, the college will inform others employees that someone in their department or who works in a nearby physical location has symptoms so they can monitor their health but will not identify or share private information. Some employees may inadvertently learn private details of another employee’s health related absence but should not intentionally share private information unless questioned by a health official or requested by administration for purposes of mitigation. According to health department protocol, employees who have had contact with employee with potential COVID will most likely be notified of possible exposure by MCHD, or the appropriate county health department. Employees are expected to cooperate with contract tracing inquires from any health department. If Bethany College COVID contacts or administrations is notified of a positive case, protocol to assist with contact tracing described herein, will be implemented. If an employee knows they’ve had close contact with someone who is being tested, or who has tested positive, they must contact their supervisor immediately, even before you are identified as part of contact tracing. Employees who test positive must demonstrate the ability to return to work with appropriate documentation, such as a negative test result, or doctor's note. Employees who do not get tested or who test negative but are still required to follow quarantine protocol pursuant to a county health department, must be symptom free without medication for the time period set forth the county health department before returning to work on campus. If someone in an employee’s household tests positive for COVID-19, and an employee can’t isolate from that family member, an employee shall notify their supervisor and follow recommendations of Bethany College Health Services, HR and/or the county health guidelines, as to appropriate protocol.

If you are a visitor: • Visitors should leave campus immediately upon the onset of symptoms and email healthservices@bethanylb.edu to advise Health Services about your concerning symptoms and identify all contacts and areas of contact on campus. • Visitors who were on campus within 48 hours prior to before symptom onset, or who find out they had been exposed prior to being on campus shall also email Bethany College Health Services. Community & Hospitality: Consistent with our core values, Employees and students, are encouraged to voluntarily report symptoms, or contact with a known positive for timely mitigation. Upon a voluntarily report of symptoms, or known exposure, the College, mindful of privacy, may share limited information as

needed for mitigation, to request guidance from local health officials and/or implement contact tracing. With everyone’s cooperation, Bethany College can decrease the chance of spread and reduce the likelihood of quarantine and/or isolation!

TESTING COVID-19 testing differs by location. The time to obtain test results depends on the test used. COVID-19 testing protocol varies by location. Campus wide testing is currently not recommended by local health officials. Students with symptoms of COVID-19, should call Health Services (link to Health Services full contact information). Employee should contact thier healthcare provider. Visit the McPherson County Department of Health or KDHE, for the latest information on testing for our region. Note: The College has no control over charges for administering a test, laboratory services or whether or not insurance covers such expenses and will not pay for tests of its students or employees. Notification of Test Results According to health officials, general communication of a COVID-19 test result is initiated by the health department in the county of the residence reported by the person who is tested. Positive test results are first communicated to the patient and information is gathered to start contact tracing. In some cases, the patient requests to notify contacts on their own. In situations that a McPherson County (or Bethany College) address is not used the College may or may NOT know about the result of a COVID-19 test. Because time is of the essence for mitigation, students, and employees should contact Bethany College Health Services, (link to contact) a supervisor or RD on call (# not released to public) if COVID-19 concerns arise. The College has provided MCHD direct contact numbers for the “College COVID Contacts” ● ● ●

CONTACT TRACING The College administration believes that contact tracing is a vital part of the elimination of infectious disease like COVID-19. All Bethany College employees and students shall cooperate with contact tracing, initiated by a county health department, other health official, or Bethany College Health Services. Close Contacts: Bethany College defines employees and students as a close contact if any ONE of the following are true:

● Being within six feet of someone who has COVID-19 for at least 15 minutes. Note, if within six feet of someone who tested positive several times a day and all of the contacts combined amount to 15 minutes although not one individual contact reached 15 minutes, your likely a close contact. OR ● Direct physical contact with someone who has COVID-19 (touched, hugged, or kissed them). OR ● Sharing eating or drinking utensils with someone who has COVID-19. ● Being exposed to respiratory droplets by someone with COVID-19 through a sneezed cough, etc. Bethany College recommends that in preparation for meaningful participation in contact tracing, employees and students document or note their closest contacts as defined by the CDC, and journal their daily routine, or contacts across campus. Wearing a mask eliminates being treated as a contact by some health departments, which is why they are required on Bethany College campus!
