THE STORY OF THE SWEDISH CROWN Lindsborg, Kansas preserves and values its Swedish heritage. Seasonal festivals, such as Svensk Hyllningsfest, St Lucia, and Midsummer’s Day, attract thousands of visitors to the area. Wild Dala Horses– a symbol of Swedish folk craft – can be viewed around town. The restaurant, originally opened in 1966, as a Swedish-themed establishment. It has been Lindsborg’s legendary downtown restaurant since. The Swedish Crown was gifted to Bethany College in April 2019 by Roy and Donice Applequist as a way to better integrate the college and the community.
ABOUT BETHANY COLLEGE: Bethany College was founded in 1881 by Dr. Carl A. Swensson, and Swedish-Lutheran settlers. Bethany is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The mission of Bethany College is to educate, develop, and challenge individuals to reach for truth and excellence as they lead lives of faith, learning, and service. Bethany connects its past, present, and future with distinctive initiatives like Swedes to Sweden, a free service-learning trip for the sophomore class to Sweden, and the Good Life Scholarship, presenting all local high school graduates with a four-year, fulltuition scholarship to the college. Bethany College is on the Web at bethanylb.edu and is located a few blocks from the restaurant.
