Good Life

Dear Future Swede,

Y

ou can find tremendous success at Bethany College. Your outstanding learning and living experience will be the top priority of our faculty, staff, coaches, administrators, and board members. At Bethany, we care what you learn (head knowledge) and who you become (heart knowledge). You can find your good life at Bethany--a life filled with professional accomplishments and a life pleasing to God. For more than 135 years now, our alumni have been known as successful professionals who love God and love people. Bethany College has a strong history of leading in education in the Midwest and beyond. We have inspired and entertained audiences with our Easter Sunday performance of Handel’s Messiah for 137 straight years. Our college band is the third oldest in the country. For many years, the Bethany alumni chapter at the Yale Graduate school was second in size only to Yale itself.

Bethany College Swedes have earned more than 190 regular season and tournament Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. Two of our former football coaches are in the College Football Hall of Fame: Bennie Owen (who has the field named after him at the University of Oklahoma) and Ted Kessinger (who served as head coach for 27 years with 219 wins). Bethany athletic teams are legendary! Our alumni have the celebratory memories and championship rings to prove it. Even so, Bethany College can prepare you for so much more than a thrilling sports moment. President William Jones

Our alumni serve as entrepreneurs, doctors, pastors, artists, teachers, attorneys, researchers, coaches, and in dozens of other professions in cities and towns across the country. They are servant leaders striving to transform their home communities and beyond. Recent graduates from Bethany have enjoyed entry into well-known medical schools, law schools, graduate schools, and seminaries. You can read more about a few of our alumni on pages 4 and 5. More and more students and families want a Bethany education and the outstanding outcomes we offer. This year, fall 2018, Bethany welcomed the largest freshmen and transfer student groups in the history of the college. Last year, it was a record year as well. Since the fall of 2016, the college’s full-time enrollment has increased more than 24 percent. This year, we had students from 35 states and 20 countries. Even with this growth, with less than 1,000 students on campus, we offer a close-knit living and learning experience. Come and visit us! We promise to show you some of our well-known hospitality. And, Lindsborg, voted one of the best 100 towns in America, awaits for you to explore, shop, and enjoy. We look forward to helping you to achieve your good life at Bethany College. Peace and blessings,

Will

FREE TRIP TO SWEDEN — The Swedes to Sweden Program is an outcome of our new strategic plan, Bethany, Arise! that called for programs that strengthen and establish distinctive offerings—particularly a service-learning trip to Sweden for all sophomores starting with the incoming full-time freshman class of 2018. This program has the potential to not only aid in meeting the mission of Bethany College, but also meeting institutional learning outcomes.

STUDY ABROAD — Bethany’s unique study abroad partnership with Harlaxton College in England introduces students to new ways of living, working and learning. You’ll learn to navigate and engage the unfamiliar and collaborate with individuals from different cultures. Our Harlaxton College Semester provides the opportunity to live and learn at an 18th-century castle in Harlaxton, England, and was ranked the #1 study abroad program in the United States by Best College Reviewers.

Swede Life Join Bethany alumni who are successful professionals who love God and love people “The relationships with the local community, faculty, and staff are all important, but the relationships that I made with teammates and other students are friendships for life.” Ryan Swartz ’00, serves as managing director with Creative Planning, Inc., a top-rated wealth management firm that manages over $25 billion nationally.

“Bethany allowed me to continue to participate in track and cross country and to get into medical school ...” Dr. Wendy Dinkel ’06, graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bethany College in 2006 with a degree in biology. “I chose Bethany because of the outstanding science program and the connection with faculty. Being challenged in the classroom helped me get accepted into dental school, before graduation.” Colton Hartline ’15, is a third-year dental school student at University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry.

“Bethany had a huge impact on my life! Coming here gave me so many great memories and lifelong friends that I now consider family. The city of Lindsborg and Bethany have a special place in our family’s heart and we are forever thankful!” Robert Lopez ’12, teaches Health and Physical Education while coaching girls basketball at Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs, CO.

“The professors helped develop the research, writing, and communication skills that I relied on to succeed in law school. I had never even considered a legal career before one of my professors suggested it, and now I practice law before the Kansas Supreme Court. Bethany’s strong, yet personalized, academics are the foundations of my career.” Kimberly Streit Vogelsberg ’08, went on to graduate from Washburn Law School, Magna Cum Laude in 2011. Kimberly serves as an Appellate Defender in Topeka, KS where she conducts research, writes, and argues appellate briefs before the Kansas Court of Appeals and Kansas Supreme Court.
