15th Bishopric Anniversary & 30th Ministry Anniversary | Bishop Darlingston and Lady Chrys Johnson | Special Episcopal Consecration | April 1-5, 2015

I

am going to tell you the story of Bethel. I want you to go back with me in time to July1990. Do you remember where you were? Were you in some other state in the United States or in some other country? That was a pivotal time for me. The Liberian Civil War, abruptly and completely, had disrupted our lives and our ministry. Pastor Chrys and I had literally lost everything. I was on my knees asking God for direction. We asked the Lord to speak to us, and He did. He said to me, “Don’t be refugees, be missionaries. There are lost people here too.” Pastor Chrys and I took a step of faith and began having services. In August of 1990, we held our first Bethel services in the Blackburn Center at Howard University, in Washington, D.C. Slowly but surely, in different ways and under different circumstances, the Lord began to bring others to join us on this journey. In November 2014, we met two men, an African American and a Trinidadian. God used them to arrange for us to meet the owners of the former Roth Theater in downtown Silver Spring. We signed a lease for a $1,000 a month. In the early months of 1992, we began holding services there, 8242 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland. That was the first miracle on Georgia Avenue. Later we bought the building for $435,000. That was the second miracle on Georgia Avenue. One day, I had the opportunity to meet the realtor for the Dominion building at 8238 Georgia Avenue. We had a conversation, and the realtor never listed the property. Instead, we arranged a lease with an option to purchase. That is the third miracle on Georgia Avenue.

Then in 1997, I noticed the bank building on the corner of 8252 Georgia Avenue. The Spirit of God dropped in my heart, “You know that building is going to be for sale”. Two or three weeks later, I saw a big “For Sale” sign on it. The owners were asking $800,000 for that building. God moved in, did something, and made it possible for us to buy that building. We contacted the realtor, and he showed us the property. Afterwards, he shared with us that his wife had cancer. We stopped, held his hands and prayed for his wife. His heart was touched, and from that day on, he worked with

us and did everything within his power to make sure we got the building and nobody else. In addition, I felt the Spirit of God put into my heart “Riggs Bank”. I did not know anyone there, but they ended up financing that purchase for us after other banks had turned us down. Moreover, instead of paying $800,000 we paid $770,000. That is another miracle on Georgia Avenue. Then in 2004, we had the opportunity to purchase 120 acres of land in Montgomery County, off Brinks Road for a very good price. We were extremely excited, because with 120 acres of land, it would be possible to do everything that we ever dreamed. We could have a large multipurpose sanctuary, administrative offices, a Christian education building for a school, a retirement community, sport fields for soccer and baseball. We were thinking of all these kinds of things. There was a lot of excitement around here for some time.

We found and purchased 8 acres of land on Norbeck Road in Silver Spring for $800,000. Within months of purchasing it, another church bought it from us for $1.55 million dollars. Right at this time, the Montgomery County lawyers called us with an offer to settle on the condition that we agreed to locate our new church to another place. We agreed. As a result, Montgomery County gave us $1.2 million. Now, we still have 120 acres paid for. We do not owe anything on it. The money they gave us covered all legal costs plus some. In addition, they promised to work for us instead of against us. God has taken our adversaries and made them our allies. It is now October 2013. God is not through yet. The Washington Christian Academy property with 60 acres of land in Olney, Maryland became available for $8 million dollars, and we bought it. I have a feeling God is not finished yet. God is not finished blessing us, and He is not finished making us a blessing. I am convinced that our best days are ahead of us. Moreover, I believe God is yet to reveal the biggest miracle He has for us on Georgia Avenue. All of this belongs to all of us. In Jesus’ name, it will belong to your children and your children’s children. In summary, we now own a combined total of 180 acres of land in perhaps one of the richest counties in the United States of America. God has started something here that He will perfect. The Lord is taking us from glory to glory. He is taking

Then something happened which we had not expected or anticipated. In November 2005, the Montgomery County Council voted to deny us the permit we needed to develop the property. Montgomery County assumed we would just walk away, but we did not. However, for eight years it seemed like we were going nowhere. We battled them in the court system. In addition, for seven of those eight years, every ruling was against us. Nevertheless, God was up to something. He was at work behind the scenes, getting ready for another miracle on Georgia Avenue. In 2012, He put in my heart, “It’s time to secure bigger, better, newer, less expensive facilities to accommodate the next level of fruitfulness.” Prior to that time, I had never thought about this. However, He was calling us to do just that. Therefore, by faith we decided to sell all of the Georgia Avenue properties. They sold for $9 million dollars. We were able to pay all our debts. Moreover, we still had about $3 million left to go towards our future project.

us to greater levels of fruitfulness and influence in this community and around the world. He is positioning us to make a huge impact on our generation and to create a legacy that will outlive us. God is providing resources, spiritual, human, physical, financial and material. He is providing whatever we need to do the job He has called us to do. He is putting everything in our hands. This is Bethel’s story. This is your story. This is our destiny.

Bishop Darlingston Johnson: Thanks be unto God for His Unspeakable Gift: Jesus. Jesus, Son of God and Father of the Apostolic church, has been living and functioning in you, in your ministry; His happy and blessed phenomenon of Sonship and Fatherhood is, in you, so evident. The coincidence of your honouring, blessing your father on this glorious occasion and the consecration of six (6) of your sons to the bishopric office will, eloquently, be declaring that Jesus, in His grace, when really present, does make us sons and fathers. This spectacular thing we are witnessing in the celebration of Jesus on your bishopric anniversary thanksgiving service. All glory to God! All glory to Jesus! ArchBishop Joel Laurore

Congratulatory message to Bishop Dr. Darlingston G. and Lady Chrys Johnson on the occasion of his 15th Bishopric Anniversary As we celebrate another milestone of your ascendancy to the office of Presiding Prelate of the Bethel World Outreach Ministries International, my family and I would like to extend warm felicitations to you and Lady Chrys for your service to God and his people for 15 years as Bishop. Without any flattery, both of you are truly one of the greatest gifts that God has given to us. It was in the wisdom of God to do so because he saw the needs that the world had that could uniquely and with a special touch, be met if people like you were turned into divine instruments for His use. Your fifteen years of service unto God and humanity at this higher level has done a lot in the brevity of time to greatly impact a lot of people around the world, more especially within the Bethel compact. Indeed though surprise, yet without contradiction, it is divinely of no surprise that this fifteenth celebration is historically consecrating six new bishops. We have always known that your rising was definitely the rising of a generation that had no hope, a group of people who needed direction and the raising of a great army of people who were at one time considered as a people without meaning. You are truly not just leaders, but spiritual parents who deserve to be celebrated by the world because you have caring hearts that touch lives, hands that are graced with divine powers that enable you to take broken images and turn them into vessels of meaning and fulfillment. Your apostleship is truly one that cannot go without being noticed by God and humanity because though you are blessed with comfort, yet, you go through times and moments of discomfort just to reach a dying world with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. May the Lord continue to endow upon you grace, favor and wisdom that is required to continue in His service. Yours in His Service, Rev. Dr. M. Wolo Belleh & Family

MESSAGE OF CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations Bishop Johnson and thank you for your dedicated leadership to the African Immigrant Caucus (AIC). On June 8, 2014, you addressed four Maryland candidates for governor and told them that the political status quo is going to change since more African Diasporans are now united and civilly engaged than ever before in the Washington Metropolitan area and beyond. Over 1,000 African Diasporans from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Liberia, Cameroon, Ghana, Sierra Leone and other African communities stood up in agreement because of your leadership.

Ever since Bishop, you have led by example, going above and beyond, and making sure that the African community gets the respect and recognition it truly deserves. AIC thanks you for your leadership and congratulates you and the other regional Bishops during this time of celebration.

Congratulatory message to my husband on the occasion of his Bishopric Consecration (Bishop for the 1st Diocese - Liberia and Guinea), Bethel World Outreach Ministries International

Who can understand the mind of God? As mere mortals, we are limited to an extent and will be, for it is the Spirit of God that reveals the deep things of God. If anyone had told me some twenty four years ago that you would be elevated to a high office as Bishop, I would have first doubted and also felt that that person was a false prophet; but thank God that he said, “I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Sweetheart, you have come a long way. Over the years, I have seen how God has molded you, transformed you, schooled you, developed you and changed you into a vessel of honor. Thank God that you chose to remain pliable in his hands. God has today elevated you to a position that is honorable in the eyes of men, but yet, it is one of servanthood and humbleness before him. I want you to know that his grace is sufficient for the awesome tasks and responsibilities that he has placed upon you. Idris, Phinehas, Justus, Lois and I are very proud of you and will always be there to stand by and with you even as the Lord guide you every step of the way in serving his purpose that he has placed upon your life. We congratulate you and love you so dearly. God bless you upon your elevation as Bishop of the first diocese of the Bethel World Outreach Ministries International. We wish you the best in all your endeavors as you serve him and the people he has called you to serve. Congratulations and bravo!! Your Dearest Wife & Children

MESSAGE OF CONGRATULATIONS It is with deep gratitude and full of emotions that I want to send you my warmest congratulations on your ordination as Bishop.

We believe that this promotion, given to you by The Most High is only the logical result of the unique path you have taken. A long road strewn with pitfalls, demanding relentless efforts and at times even despairing. But against which

you have always shown a firm determination that commands respect and admiration from all, an unwavering commitment and motivation that exceeded our understanding; for the sole purpose of making the light of Christ shine. And this light indeed, we have seen it shine in our family, we have seen it illuminate the Church of Bethel- Niger, and we saw it guide the entire Church of Niger.

God used you as a channel for me to come to know Him and for our entire family to be saved. Together, we overcame many obstacles. Your unifying gift, your generosity and your leadership have been the pillars on which one could always rely on, in times of adversity. But most important your unfaltering devotion to our Lord and your attentiveness to

his voice are an inspiration to me. Your

burden

was

the

implantation

of

the

Gospel

in

the

remote

lands

of

our

nation.

Your dearests wish that these seeds of faith planted by the Christian in Niger grow, and lead the people to know the truth about Christ. Above all to see come out of this arid Sahel, revival.

I thank once again God for this divine appointment and for this great humility that has always marked your actions. I also know that your work will not be contained in Niger, but that God will make your ministry grow to outer borders. Convinced that the Bishop coat you're going to take on will give more glory and honor to our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, to Him and Him alone. I wish you success and anointing in your new responsibilities.

Lady Rabi Kimso

We are so proud of you for becoming a bishop! You have been an outstanding father to us, to your extended family and to all the Christian community in Niger. A caring and loving father, you and mom have raised us according to the ways of the Lord. You have instilled in us the principles of love, justice, respect, tolerance and honor. You have always taught us to respect others and your generosity towards those in need exemplified to us is the true meaning of caring. By valuing Family, you have shown us the importance of this Godly institution; this will guide us in our own households for many years to come. Sacrificing yourself to provide the very best for your children, we continue to be inspired by your hard work, determination and zeal in carrying out the mission of the Lord. In addition to being a skilled diplomat and an outgoing person, you are also a great listener at home to your wife and children. You have always protected us, sometimes too much, and for that we thank you! We are inspired by the way you have led your household, by setting an example of discipline upon yourself. We have always been encouraged and have been free to think for ourselves. We will never thank you enough for all you have done for us and we sincerely congratulate you.

We love you, Reina, Oumou, Habibou, Ismael and Christine

Bishop-Designate, The Rev. Saah Musa Korfeh SR. On the occasion of your Consecration to the Office of Bishop. In Danny Silk’s book, “Culture of Honor”, he speaks of, the culture of honor as something that creates an environment that attracts and hosts the presence of God. Life flows through honor. The clear fruit of establishing a culture of honor is that the resurrection life of God begins to flow in people’s lives, homes, and communities, bringing healing restoration, blessings, joy, hope and wholeness. The principle of honor states that accurately acknowledging who people are will position us to give them what they deserve and to receive the gift of who they are in our lives. Yes life flows through honor. Honor creates life giving and life promoting relationships. The key is accurately acknowledging who people are. We can only do that when we recognize their God given identities and roles.

I have heard it said that it is not the number of breaths we take moment by moment that makes life most memorable, but the moments that take our breath away … Well, in just a few months, we will be celebrating 25 years of marriage, and I thank you from the depths of my heart for been a loving friend, husband, father to our amazing children, and man that honors God and leadership. After having worked by your side for many years, I remembered you sitting up for hours into the dawn, pondering difficult decisions that have made us who we have become. The many nights while staring into your eyes that have often shifted from fear to amazing faith, from tears to laughter, from sadness to joy, and compassion to relentless passion. I can say, without doubt that while many, many moments over these years have taken my breath away, this by far, exceeds them all. The reason I fell in love with you the first time was your love for God, your passion for ministry and your compassion for His people. I can say it with all I have in me that you have not changed, you take my breath away every time I see you. Over the years, you believed in me, when I did not believe in me. You helped me to develop my abilities and strength in ministries, you pushed me as far as you could. While it is evident that I am called to be your helpmate, over the years, there has been much confusion as to what my real role is in the ministry. People have taken liberties to place me where they thought I belong, but you told me, “Farmah, you have it within”. All that I know about ministering and more I learned from you. Thank you for making me want to do ministry. Ps. 118:23, “This is the Lord’s doing, it is marvelous in our eyes.” I am so proud to be what God called me in the beginning of times, your helpmate. I love you more than you will ever know and I look forward to many more exciting years in ministry with you.

—Rev. Farmah J. Korfeh

TO BISHOP JULIUS LAGGAH: FROM THE FIRST DAY I MET BISHOP LAGGAH 20 YEARS AGO, HIS DEDICATION, COMMITMENT AND ZEAL FOR THE THINGS OF GOD HAS NOT WAVERED. TOUGH TIMES, DIFFICULTIES, HARDSHIP IN ALL SHAPES AND FORMS BLEW BUT HE REMAINED CONSTANT AS THE NORTHERN STAR. WE WERE BOTH YOUNG AND HAD NOTHING. BUT, HIS STEADFASTNESS AND FAITHFULNESS TO ANY ASSIGNMENT GIVEN TO HIM GAVE ME THE CONFIDENCE AND ASSURANCE THAT THOUGH HIS

BEGINNINGS WERE SMALL HIS LATTER DAYS WOULD GREATLY INCREASE. HE DIDN'T HAVE MONEY BUT HE HAD GOD AND I KNEW THAT HE WOULD GO PLACES.

I STAND BESIDE YOU TODAY WITH MY HEAD LIFTED HIGH, WITH A HEART FULL OF JOY AND IN THANKSGIVING TO GOD BECAUSE YOU DESERVE IT. I AM SO PROUD OF YOU. I AM CONFIDENT THAT GOD, WHO HAS STARTED THIS GOOD WORK IN YOU, WILL GIVE YOU THE GRACE AND STRENGTH REQUIRED FOR THIS NEW LEVEL.

FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, CONGRATULATIONS!

I just want to congratulate you for making it to this stage of becoming a Bishop. I know it has been really challenging but I thank God for giving you the strength. God has seen the hard work you put into spiritual matters and you are now Bishop. I just want to thank God for that and know you will continue to do things that will glorify God. As you always say to us, “Keep It Up. I also want to say keep it up and continue to make God proud by doing the work of getting people to know Him. I love you, dad. Once again, congratulations! To Bishop-Designate Daniel Alain Njoya Darling, I thank God who has judged it good to elevate you to this great office of Bishop in His church. I bless Him for what he has decided in His sovereignty to make of you.

your reason for living.

As you have always done, I urge you to continue to serve Him with passion, zeal, sincerity, humility, reverence, sacrifice and courage. I know He is

Yes, because He is your life, you have turned down lots of things the world could have offered you: honors, reputation, a more brilliant military carrier, illicit profits and...what can I say more, worldly pleasures. Yes, you have understood that all these things are short-lived, and you have chosen the good part that will not be taken away from you, which is the Lord Jesus-Christ and eternal life. Cling on! things will not always be easy, but stand firm, for His grace is sufficient for you, it sustains you and will sustain you for ever. I am proud of you, just as the children (Faith, Glory, Néhémie and Trésor). Hearty Congratulations. I love you. Your wife, Lady-Designate Chantal Njoya

What We Do The growing need for more efficient and faster delivery of facility-related projects has enabled JFW to develop its successful approach to Owner's Representation and Project Management services. JFW specializes in Project Management only; we practice no other discipline. As with any construction project there is risk and uncertainty specific to timing, funding, constructibility, effectiveness for its purpose, agency requirements and contracting methods. The key role of JFW is to mitigate these risks by identifying them early and defining these issues in terms of cost, time, and program impact, thus allowing the organization to make the most informed decision possible while making the most efficient use of its available funds
