GENERAL CONFERENCE REPORT GENERAL CONFERENCE REPORT In the first week of May 2018, Caleb & Stephanie Courtney, along with my wife Kim and I (we also brought our son Cayden) traveled to beautiful British Columbia to attend the General Conference of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC). This conference is held every two years, each time at a different Canadian city. This year’s conference was held in Victoria, B.C. What a joy it was to gather with PAOC credential holders from all across Canada along with our missionaries from around the world. This year was a special conference as the PAOC celebrates its 100th anniversary as a fellowship of churches in 2019. With it being a special celebration, the PAOC provided for all of our missionaries to be able to come to the conference. David Wells serves as our Superintendent for our fellowship. The theme of the conference was “Picture This” as our Superintendent led us through 5 sessions on this theme.
Rev. David Wells, Superintendent of PAOC The first session was Picture Faithfulness. In this session we reviewed some of the history of the PAOC and heard from past leaders of God’s Faithfulness. It was great to hear stories of God working in the lives of people and churches over the years. We also received Communion together as a church family and thanked God for His presence amoung us. The second session was Picture Multiplication. In this session we emphasized how the PAOC family has always had a passion to see Jesus’ church multiply in Canada and globally. Currently in Canada, the PAOC has
1,100 churches. More than 235,000 people across the nation attend services in more than 40 languages with over 3,500 pastors and ministry leaders. At the 2014 General Conference held in Saskatoon, David Wells outlined a 2020 goal of seeing our fellowship grow to 1,500 churches in Canada with 350,000 Canadians (approx. 1% of population) attending PAOC churches. As we are now just two years away from that 2020 goal, it is obvious that it will take a significant move of God to accomplish this goal. The call in this session was to encourage churches to multiply by planting new churches. The third session was Picture Transformational Truth. In this session the emphasis was to continue to be “people of the Book (Bible)” as we value truth that sets people free. In a culture where truth is often dismissed or altered, we are reaffirming and seeking to bring further clarity to our Fundamental and Essential Truths, and to be engaging our culture with theology that transforms.
teachings), Picture Leadership (Lessons from Global Leadership). In this Conference there was also a strong affirmation of the equal role of men and women in leadership within the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. There was a call for us to be more intentional to welcome women into all levels of leadership and pastoral ministry within the PAOC.

The fourth session was Picture the Nations. Missions has always been part of the core DNA of our fellowship. We heard from missionaries who shared stories of what it is like to be faithful representatives of Jesus in often very difficult, war-torn and hostile environments to the Gospel. Stories were also shared of how the Gospel is advancing in parts of the world and it is changing the culture in it. The fifth and final main session was Picture the Future. In this session there was a call for each credential minister to ask God to paint pictures for us of what the Spirit is calling each of us, as a part of this Fellowship, to do as we envision the future. Included in this conference was also breakout sessions: Picture Justice (Creation Care and Care for “The Least of These”), Picture Wholeness (Human Identity, Sexuality and Sanctity of Life), Picture Multiplication (Church Planting strategies), Picture Revitalization (Helping Churches that are struggling or in decline), Picture Transformational Truth (Bringing greater clarity to our core
Pastor Howard Courtney, Rev. Robert Taitinger (former PAOC Superintendent), Rev. Gordon Upton, and Caleb Courtney. We, my family and the Courtney’s, were blessed to be a part of this conference. Not only in the sessions presented, but in the connections with ministry colleagues from all across the nation and the world. Truly there was a great sense of unity among those in attendance at the conference. For more information on the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, go to www.paoc. org.
