CANADA DAY SERVICE & PARADE
MEET BROCK WRIGHT Tell us about your growing up years and what you have been up to since High School. I grew up in a Pastor’s home which meant we moved a lot, from different parts of Nova Scotia to Ontario for my high school years. I loved moving and making new friends.
After High School I attended YWAM in Hawaii. I attended Bible School in Edmonton at Vanguard College and finished my degree at Summit Pacific College in British Columbia. I loved learning about Jesus and knew that He was calling me to become a Pastor. After Bible School I began to teach and work at YWAM in Hawaii leading short term missions teams all over Asia. After my experience in Hawaii, I moved into a pastoring role in BC for a year then received a call from Pastor Tim asking me to come to Sarnia. My fiance Kirsten and I felt that this was from the Lord so we agreed to come and serve here at Bethel.
school and played soccer. I also love long boarding around town and skateboarding at skateparks. Being out west for so long, I have become addicted to really expensive coffee… so I am always trying to find time to run to Black Water or Starbucks to get a real cup of coffee… sorry Tim Hortons fans…
You were married to Kirsten on June 24th. Tell us little bit about Kirsten. How did the two of you meet and fall in love?
I will try and keep this one short and sweet. While I was leading in YWAM Hawaii, Kirsten came as a student and fell in love with ministry and missions. She eventually came on staff and led teams overseas to China, Taiwan,
time and we are so excited to finally be together for good.
What is your heart and vision for the youth ministry at Bethel?
When Kirsten and I were asking the Lord about our vision for Bethel youth we were reminded of Acts 2, where the Lord promises that in the last days He will pour out His Spirit on our sons and daughters. I believe that the Lord has big plans for the youth of Sarnia and I am excited to see what God has planned to do in His house. I believe that we are living in such an exciting time where youth are at a desperate point to experience the power of the Holy Spirit and hear the plans that God has for their lives. I believe He has plans to bring hope and a future to this generation. We are committed to walking with students and helping them find what God has for them and how they can find purpose and fulfillment in their lives through Him.
Tell us about some of your interests and hobbies.
Growing up in Nova Scotia I have always loved the ocean, from boogie boarding to surfing. While I was in
Hawaii, I would surf a couple of times a day so I am so thankful there is some surf on the great lakes! But it is a change from a hot ocean to surfing in a lake when its snowing and ice floating beside you. I love sports, any and all sports. I played for team Ontario rugby when I lived here and rep league football. I also wrestled in high
Bali, Thailand etc. We were on staff for a couple of years together and became very good friends but never thought about dating each other until I was asked to pastor a church in BC and leave the beautiful Island of Hawaii. At that point we realized that we actually did have feelings for each other, so we began to date… but she was still in Hawaii and I was in BC so we didn’t see each other for our first 7 months of dating. Thank goodness for FaceTime :) Eventually she moved back to BC and we were able to be close to each other for about 6 months until I moved to Sarnia and so another 3 months of long distance dating. I wouldn’t recommend this plan to date someone but God has been so faithful to us throughout this whole
Kirsten and I are so excited to get to know our students more and go deeper into the Word of God with them and experience all that God has for the youth of this Church and City. Brock Wright is our new Youth Pastor. He & Kirsten will return to us on July 16th after their wedding celebration. A special welcome reception for Brock & Kirsten will take place on Sunday July 22nd following the 6:30PM service.
FROM ME TO YOU THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT It is hard to believe that it has been 3 years already since we launched our Building Our Future Project to completely renovate our upstairs ministry space. We set a goal back then to raise $1 million dollars in order to do this project and to bring our 2010 renovation mortgage to under $1 million dollars. I am so happy to report that we have achieved our objectives. We have together raised the funds for the project in cash, meaning the upstairs renovation is finished and completely paid for. As well, early on in this project, an opportunity came for us to renegotiate our 2010 mortgage and to secure a lower interest payment. We decided to keep our monthly payments the same (meaning more of the principal was being paid each month). This resulted in us now being under the $1 million dollar mark for our 2010 mortgage. It is quite remarkable what we have been able to accomplish in the past 8 years. We have completely renovated and/or expanded every part of our church, investing approximately $3 million dollars into our facility with less than $1 million still owing. We give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and to you for your support and love for our church. For everyone who helped us financially in this project, we are so grateful.
YOUTH & CHILDREN Of course, ministry is far more than a building or ministry space. We are so glad to have
Brock Wright recently join our staff as our new Youth Pastor. He, and the youth, are excited about getting into the new space that has been built for them upstairs, and to have the Gym restored to a full use Gym for sports activities and outreach. We are also glad to welcome Brock’s wife, Kirsten, to our church. Brock and Kirsten were married on June 24th. We anticipate great things to come in our youth ministry. We also anticipate an announcement this summer with regard to Children’s ministry. We see this year as a transition year in kids ministry. We are interviewing now for someone to help us in an interim part-time contract basis as we work towards expanding kids ministry at Bethel in the near future. This church began, over 80 years ago, as an outreach to children in our city. I believe this is part of our DNA as a church community. Children’s ministry must be a very important part here at Bethel.
THANK YOU PASTOR TRICIA Pastor Tricia has now been at Bethel for 13 years, serving as our Children’s Pastor and then in an expanded role of Student Ministries Director. We appreciate the ministry Pastor Tricia has provided these 13 years. As announced, Pastor Tricia is continuing at Bethel in a new role as our Connections Pastor. Her responsibilities will be on welcoming our guests, co-ordinating our volunteer ministry and planning events. In addition to this, Tricia
will have more opportunities to preach on Sundays. We also announced that Tricia is now serving as the Women’s Director for the PAOC District. Her time division will be 75% time at Bethel and 25% with the District.
THIS SUMMER With our long cold winters here in Ontario, it truly is great to be in the summer season. Whatever your vacation plans are for this summer, I trust you will really enjoy not only the weather but the opportunity to be with family and friends. We also have a great summer schedule of ministry here at Bethel, including some wonderful guests to bless us. We are particularly excited to have Pastor Gary Nettleship back with us on Sunday July 15th. Pastor Gary and his wife, Pam, served Bethel as the lead Pastor from 1995 to 2004. Caleb and Stephanie Courtney will be away a Large part of the summer. They are ministering at 4 of our Pentecostal Camps in worship ministry. Bethel is truly blessed to have Caleb and Stephanie leading in our worship and we are happy to see them bless the larger body of Christ this summer. This will be a busy summer for me as well I will be speaking at two of our Pentecostal camps (see schedule below) as well as speaking at a large conference in Kiev, Ukraine in August. I appreciate your prayers for me as I minister this summer.
