Solo Exhibition entitled "The Menagerie" by artist Beth Erez at the Ein Hod Gallery. July 2-20 2016. Opening July 2 at 12:00.
Erez is probably best known for her menagerie – sculptures composed mostly of organic objects she finds in nature, such as roots or branches of trees, some of which have been found burnt at campfires. Without changing the initial form, she adds elements of bronze, glass, aluminum or epoxy fashioning the most fascinating stylized creatures, real and imaginary. Erez’ expressive sculptures are metaphorical, sometimes missing legs or wings, sometimes made of materials attached to tree roots and trunks. Some of these creatures remind one of ancient rituals, religious associations. Viewed as a whole, the menagerie makes one feel as if time has stood still and suggests that this is, perhaps, a Lost Kingdom.
