Celebrating Israel’s 70th Birthday
BT Congregation celebrated Israel’s 70th birthday beginning with a discussion of Israel’s past and future at the Dahan Lecture with Jeffrey Goldberg, Bret Stephens, and Senator Ben Cardin. A community-wide Yom HaAtzma’ut celebration took place where an estimated 2,000 Baltimore Jewish community members enjoyed fireworks, live music, Israel-themed activities and more. The school followed with a day of colorful festivities for all ages.

Schmooze and Learn
We are delighted to welcome the recent new members of our Congregation:
25 Lighttown Ct.
Avi and Sherryl Amoyal - Avi is selfemployed at Roland Falls Auto Body.
Monday, June 11, 2-4 pm You are invited to a Beth Tfiloh Sisterhood program featuring a variety of topics with a human focus in an informal, relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. How many of us have heard the term “Marrano?” If so, do we know what it means? Regardless of how much we’ve learned about this part of Jewish history, The Last Marranos is sure to maintain your interest. This moody, moving documentary takes a close look at the amazing village of Belmonte, Portugal and records its tragedy, its otherworldly medieval beauty and the inevitable awakening of its people as history moves them five centuries forward. Attendance is limited to 25, so RSVP early to Anita Knisbacher at 443798-8888 or ladylingo@verizon.net.
Sisterhood Closing Meeting Tuesday, June 12, 7:30 pm.

Meet our Members The Cornberg Family What brought Tara and Simon Cornberg to Beth Tfiloh Congregation? Gratitude. “Many years ago, I attended one of Rabbi Wohlberg's drashot (sermons) where he spoke about gratitude and the Jewish ‘Modeh Ani’ prayer,” Tara says. “During the talk, Rabbi Wohlberg challenged everyone there to say the Modeh Ani morning prayer every day for one year, and I have said it every day since.” The drasha had such a strong impact on Tara that she still practices living a life of gratitude all these years later. Tara, a Baltimore native, earned a degree in economics at Columbia University and a law degree from University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. She practiced law for nine years before receiving her appointment as a US federal judge. Simon, an assistant attorney general at Maryland State’s Department of Human Services, grew up in both London and Israel. After earning law degrees from both the University of Birmingham and Liverpool, he passed bar exams in Israel,

the UK, New York and Maryland. When the two were introduced by a mutual friend, they knew they were meant to be. The couple joined BT Synagogue because of the “eclectic mix of Jews who attend the shul and the variety of programs the shul offers for all ages,” Tara explains. “Although we are active members of multiple area shuls, about a year ago we decided to join BT as well, as we love attending various BT events ranging from the children’s services, to the
ladies Tehillim group, to hearing Cantor Albrecht, and beyond,” she adds. The Cornberg family has a special interest in and love for Israel. “We visit as often as possible, and we feel fortunate to have family, friends and community in both Israel and the States,” comments Simon, who served in an Israel Defense Forces engineering combat unit before attending college. We are so happy that the Cornberg family is part of the BT family!
