What a year this has been, the likes of which our global Jewish community has never experienced. In the months since October 7, we have come together through so many moments of meaningful engagement, embracing one another despite a Jewish community full of diversity. We showed solidarity and commitment to our Judaism and to Israel, and know for certain that together, we are stronger.
We spent the past year demonstrating to our extraordinary community how Our BT is Your BT, and living our unspoken values of community, continuity and generosity. We thank you for partnering with us and supporting and investing in our congregation, students, clergy, teachers, volunteers, school parents, grandparents, and alumni – all who comprise our rich, layered BT community. Thank you for recognizing the value of our religious and academic programming, and how the recruitment and retention of the highest caliber of teachers makes a difference. Thank you for supporting and celebrating upgrades and enhancements to our programs and our campus so that we can offer our school and shul communities the most inspiring, enriching opportunities.
Your support and investment in our mission, values, and community have made all the difference for so many of us, especially this year. From giving to our Annual Campaign at a time when support of Israel was on the forefront of our collective minds, to your support of scholarships at SPOTLIGHT 2024, and to creating endowments that secure our future, you have made it possible for Your BT to grow strong and be available for the next generation of emerging Jewish leaders.

About Philanthropy at Beth Tfiloh
Your BT is built upon the generosity of our community to ensure Jewish continuity for generations to come, and those ideals are at the foundation of philanthropy. With close to 1,000 students enrolled in the Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School and 1,200 Beth Tfiloh Congregation member families, your financial support has an immediate and meaningful impact on our school and shul today - and will for generations to come.
Investing in BT takes many forms. While our Annual Campaign provides necessary resources to keep our school and shul in motion, SPOTLIGHT - our annual scholarship event - makes a Beth Tfiloh education possible for more than 50 percent of our students. Thanks to the generocity of our Centennial Campaign donors, facility upgrades are underway and endowments for both our school and synagogue have been established.
Legacy giving and gifts to our endowments ensure an ongoing connection to BT by providing permanent flexibility in both our school and synagogue’s operating budgets, supporting the engaging adult education programs, inspiring religious services, meaningful professional development opportunities, competitive staff compensation packages, and countless other areas that are critical to Beth Tfiloh’s overall success.
Philanthropy is the foundation of our institution’s future. It is essential to the fulfillment of our mission of embracing and nurturing a diverse cross-section of Jews. We thank you for providing us with the means to keep our BT – Your BT – continuous, sustainable, and viable for the next generation of strong, proud Jewish leaders.

CENTENNIAL CAMPAIGN
The donor investments made as a part of Beth Tfiloh’s Centennial Campaign have had and will continue to have an indelible impact on our school and synagogue communities. These donor families and foundations have transformed and reinvented several key areas of our campus and have created endowments to support the most important areas of our mission: faculty recruitment and retention, educational and social programming for our synagogue, and student support services for social/ emotion and academic needs and affordability of the Beth Tfiloh experience.
October 7th was a defining moment in our lives. We knew that we needed to make an investment in our Jewish community and reconfirm our commitment to the mission of Beth Tfiloh which we so deeply believe in.
– Adele and Michael Greenbaum
CAPITAL PROJECTS
Jacob Benus Memorial Field
The Jacob Benus Memorial Field, dedicated in June 2024, will truly transform the athletic program for Beth Tfiloh. The beautiful new turf field will allow for high quality playing conditions rivaling any of our independent school competitors with boy’s and girl’s lacrosse and soccer as well as softball which will be played on the new Leibowitz Family Softball Field. Additionally, the promenade for spectators has more than doubled in size and will offer a much improved fan experience. This tremendous project is a dream come true for our school.
ivdu Program Center
The ivdu Program Center generously dedicated by Irene and Robert Russel, has fast become one the most sought after spaces within Beth Tfiloh to hold educational and social programming for adult learners, meeting facilities for our boards and committees, welcome events for new families, staff meetings, and so much more. The space is conducive to a vast array of program and meeting layouts and offers an upscale professional and warm feeling that is being enjoyed by so many of our members and families.
Louise and Morton J. Macks Library
The newly renovated Upper School library has transformed the use of the space and now serves as a main hub for student gathering for studying, group work, and socializing. The enhanced aesthetics and upgraded technology have truly brought the library into the 21st century, while at the same time represents Beth Tfiloh’s staunch commitment to books and research.

One of the most important signs of a healthy congregation is a robust and growing young family population. We are so very fortunate to have many of these young families as active and engaged members of our community. We are able to attract and retain young families because of the affordable membership rates offered to families under 40. The membership subsidy endowment fund, in addition to supporting members of all ages who are unable to afford full membership dues, also provides Beth Tfiloh with the financial flexibility to keep young family membership dues at a reasonable rate.
Faculty and Staff Recruitment and Retention Endowment Fund
The Faculty and Staff Recruitment and Retention Fund has begun to provide the kind of flexibility Beth Tfiloh needs to remain competitive in today’s educational market. The draw from this fund is used to cover several key cost centers associated with faculty recruitment and retention including but not limited to professional recruiting firm fees (specifically in the areas of science, math and STEM), increased salary offers for teachers we are seeking to recruit who are receiving offers from other independent schools, and supporting salary increases and benefits improvements for current teachers.

LOVE OF ISRAEL
Beth Tfiloh fosters a love of Israel in our students and congregants by integrating Israeli culture, history, and values into our curriculum, and providing immersive experiences that deepen their connection and commitment to the Jewish homeland.
n Our seniors experienced the trip of a lifetime on the Natanzon/Taylor Senior Class Trip to Poland and Israel.
n Our middle school students built a Yom HaAtzma’ut carnival for our Lower School students, infusing Israeli-themed crafts and activities.
n In the lower school, the Israel fair is one of the highlights of the year, bringing to life the culture and history of Israeli cities through student-led exhibits.
n In our daily minyans and weekly Shabbat services our congregation continues to daven for the safety of our brothers and sisters in Israel.
FOCUS ON THE INDIVIDUAL
At Beth Tfiloh, our dedicated faculty and staff focus on the individual student, fostering confidence and enhancing learning. Through personalized attention, supportive mentorship, and tailored instruction, our students unique strengths and needs are addressed, ensuring their academic and personal growth in a nurturing environment.
OUR BT MOMENT: WOMEN’S PRE-PESACH
The Women’s Pre-Pesach Night Out was a remarkable evening, providing an opportunity to delve deeper into the Haggadah and discover new meaning, particularly during a time when inspiration was sought and reflections on Pesach were intertwined with concerns for the hostages in Israel. The BT community, abundant with talented women, gathered to share in this enriching experience. Attendees departed with renewed hope, uplifted spirits, and a deeper appreciation for the diverse and impactful women who form our chevrah.

BT opened its doors on October 11 – just 4 days after the horrific terror attacks in Israel – to create a “Community Gathering in Solidarity with Israel.” It was the place to be. The crowd was religiously diverse, with every type of Jew in attendance, from Reform to Orthodox, from various shuls and temples. The things that may have divided the community before October 7th were now irrelevant. The Dahan Sanctuary was filled with Jews who came together to show their collective support, love, and solidarity for Israel. It was an incredible evening of inspiration, songs, and prayer, and BT was the congregation that made this happen for the Baltimore Jewish community.

JOY OF JUDAISM
At Beth Tfiloh, students learn with joy in their Judaism, embracing traditions, values, and cultural practices with enthusiasm and a deep sense of connection, all of which are our Beth Tfiloh school values and principles in our mission.
n Our BT lower schoolers celebrated yearly milestone programs, gifting them a personal Siddur (Dr. Sandy z’l & Howard Rosenblatt Siddur Program), Chumash (Deborah & Searle Mitnick Chumash Program), Pirkei Avot (Sandy & Sheldon Dobres Pirkei Avot Program) and Sefer Tehillim (Steinberg Family Tehillim Program)
n Our middle school students spent time creating B’nei Mitzvah ritual items including the making of tefillin, candlesticks, challot, and more during their annual Mitzvah Week.
n High School shabbatonim provided time for our students to connect Jewishly and spiritually.
COLLEGE GUIDANCE
Beth Tfiloh’s college guidance program provides an individualized approach for each student.
n Class of 2024 students were accepted to six Ivy League schools and many other elite colleges and universities.
n 30 percent of our students will be taking a gap year in Israel at a variety of yeshivot, seminaries and other programs.
n Our graduating seniors have received $6,274,980 in merit scholarships to date, including the prestigious UMD Banneker Key Scholarship, the Brandeis Humanities Fellowship Scholarship, the Dickinson Reynolds Scholarship, the JTS List/Columbia University Scholarship, the 1693 William & Mary Scholarship, and Yeshiva University’s Honors Scholarship.

Rabbi Dr. Eliyahu Yoggev led the BT Israel Solidarity Mission Trip, a special journey that demonstrated to the world that it’s always a good time to go to Israel, that BT stands in solidarity with Eretz Yisrael, and that there are impactful ways to support Israeli brothers and sisters during this time. The trip consisted of meaningful moments of engagement, chesed, support for the IDF, visits with BT alums who have made Aliyah, and many volunteer opportunities, providing the chance to help out whenever possible.

B’NEI MITZVAH
Beth Tfiloh Congregation’s Bar and Bat Mitzvah program is built upon five core pillars: responsibilities to our self, family, community, Jewish peoplehood, and the world as Jewish young adults. Our family-oriented programming emphasizes everything from Jewish tradition to our history and culture, and the challenges we face in our Jewish world today.
WE STAND WITH ISRAEL
Beth Tfiloh has and continues to put the state of Israel on the forefront of our community programming, davening and advocacy efforts. From our Tefillin and Tehillim event, to the Show Up for Israel program, our congregation and school are keeping our prayers deep and our spirits high as we continue to support and advocate for Israel.
BT CAMPS
More than 730 campers enjoy summer fun on both our Old Court Road and BT Camps campuses. Children experience programming that includes Israel inspired activities, instructional swimming, sports, arts & crafts and much more. BT Camp is the place to be!

BT’s Dr. Liebe Diamond STEM Day offered a unique opportunity to welcome back alumni sharing their professional experiences, alongside esteemed BT parents who hold influential positions and shared their expertise. Their impassioned narratives about their careers resonated deeply. While discussing the significance of STEM is valuable, experiencing firsthand insights into the future-leading industries within STEM and knowing students may eventually contribute to this dynamic field was truly exhilarating for both our students and our guests.

STEM
At BT, students embark on a comprehensive STEM education journey from PreSchool through high school, emphasizing a holistic approach that integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with realworld applications. Students learn through experiential opportunities, in our Middle School Messing Family STEM Center, High School STEM Center, and new Faith and Dr. Edward Wolf Biotechnology Center, preparing them for future STEM careers with a well-rounded, innovative, and practical understanding of the field.
HUMANITIES
At Beth Tfiloh, the humanities curriculum is designed to foster critical thinking, creativity, and cultural understanding from early childhood through high school. Students engage with literature, history, philosophy, and the arts, exploring diverse perspectives and developing strong analytical and communication skills, preparing them to be thoughtful, informed, and compassionate global citizens.
LEADERSHIP & COMMUNITY
Beth Tfiloh students are nurtured to become tomorrow’s Jewish leaders, deeply rooted in their heritage and committed to community service. From the Women Empowerment Club, focusing on tikkun olam (repairing the world), to leadership opportunities with student government, BT students are prepared to inspire and lead, ensuring a vibrant and enduring future.

The days following October 7th were a whirlwind for many, but the visit of Dr. Schorr, Rabbi Posner, and Rabbi Oratz to University of Maryland’s campus is what makes BT, BT. Despite their demanding schedules, their heartfelt gesture of support during a tumultuous day marked by a pro-Palestinian Walk Out and Protest was profoundly meaningful. The presence of school and shul leadership not only reassured everyone but also underscored the enduring familial bond within the BT community.

MILESTONES
Every year our milestone reunions celebrate together around Thanksgiving! This year, the classes of 2008 (15 years), 2013 (10 years) and 2018 (5 years) gathered for an evening of toasts and mingling, with surprise visits from BT Staff members!
TEACHING
We love inviting our Alumni back in the building to teach classes and engage with our students. This year our alumni taught several classes and seminars, on a range of topics including Israel, technology and sciences.
COLLEGE PARK VISITS
Every few months, our Alumni in College Park get together with their former teacher, Rabbi Furman, to catch up and learn Torah. The incredible connections that our students make at BT stretch far beyond the walls of our campus.
SPOTLIGHT 2024
SPOTLIGHT is Beth Tfiloh’s annual fundraising event in support of scholarship. More than 50% of our Beth Tfiloh students rely on financial assistance to make their BT education possible. Spotlight brings together members of our diverse community, including school parents and grandparents, congregants, alumni and their parents, and staff. Spotlight 2024 raised nearly $1.2 million dollars, providing our students with a rich Jewish day school educational experience. We are so grateful for our beloved honorees, Myrna and Senator Ben Cardin, and our extraordinary event co-chairs, Larraine Bernstein and Ken Hornstein, and Tara Brown and Ari Mittleman for making this year’s Spotlight an incredible success.

Roz & Marvin H. Weiner Family Foundation – Support for Weiner Family Tournament
The 35th Annual Weiner Family Basketball Tournament was nothing short of spectacular as the Beth Tfiloh halls were filled with camaraderie, intensely competitive basketball, friendships, community support, school-wide ruach, and Jewish connection. To top it all off, our BT boys’ varsity squad took home the tournament championship - the first time in 13 years! The Weiner Tournament is BT at its best, and a much-anticipated time of year for the entire community.

ARTS PROGRAM
Our comprehensive arts program provides endless opportunities for BT students. Whether it be instrumental, drama, music, visual art, choral, dance or creative movement classes, students are encouraged and supported in finding their passions. Our 16 live productions provided opportunities on and off the stage, including set design, tech crew, choreography, costume design and more.
ATHLETICS
Beth Tfiloh’s athletics program promotes teamwork and leadership by encouraging students to work together, develop strong communication skills, and support one another on and off the field. With more than 250 middle and high school students participating in 43 teams, students learn the values of collaboration, perseverance, and leading by example, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and personal growth. We are fierce competitors and even better teammates.
