MESSAGE FROM THE ALUMNI COUNCIL CHAIR Dear BT Alumni, As Jews, we are experiencing some of the most challenging days we have ever faced. As Jews who stand with Israel, and as members of the BT community, we are seeing fellow alumni, friends, and loved ones on the front lines of this challenging war. We are grieving, fighting back against disinformation and hatred, and facing a frightening increase in anti-Semitic attacks. We are overwhelmed, exhausted, and very disappointed in the people and organizations trafficking in hate. But amidst all of that, we are also united, keeping each other strong, and holding those in Israel in our hearts. I had the opportunity to join the Baltimore community event that BT hosted in October and the subsequent alumni events, and I’ve been absolutely awed at the way our community rallied in the thousands, raised funds, wrote letters, lit candles, and joined together in learning and prayer. Since then, we’ve also had a huge turnout at Alumni Weekend, celebrated milestone reunions, and cheered Beth Tfiloh’s incredible Weiner Championship victory.
Milena Rodban ’04 BT Alumni Council Chair
Despite all we are facing, life continues to go on, and we have much to celebrate, as fellow alumni get married, have children, and celebrate bar and bat mitzvahs. Please continue to share your simchas with us - they are bright lights against the darkness. We are stronger than we know, and we will continue to celebrate our Judaism and our community in beautiful and meaningful ways. We will not let our light diminish- we will kindle it with love, friendship, and pride in our Jewishness. Am Yisrael Chai!
CELEBRATING INDUCTEES Kol hakavod to Aviva Vogelstein Ghitman ’05, and Paul Auster ’07, who were inducted into the BT Athletic Hall of Fame. Aviva and Paul were recognized for their accomplishments in athletics and spoke at BT’s Thanksgiving All-School convocation, where they shared appreciation for the people in their lives who encouraged them as young student athletes, and for the many lessons they learned from participating in team sports such as friendship, persistence, healthy competition, teamwork, and communication.
Aviva Vogelstein Ghitman ’05: Aviva graduated from Beth Tfiloh in 2005, where she played tennis, basketball, and cross country. Following graduation, Aviva took a gap year, studying at Midreshet Lindenbaum in Israel, before continuing her education at the University of Pennsylvania. At UPenn, she majored in American history and served as president of their campus Hillel. Aviva then pursued law studies at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, followed by a dedicated 6-year tenure at the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law, where she focused on combating antisemitism on college campuses. Aviva is also the founder of ReVased, an eco-friendly e-commerce flower business, which she now operates with her sister and fellow alum, Arielle Vogelstein ’08. Currently, Aviva resides in Pikesville with her husband, Daniel, and their three children.
Paul Auster ’07: Paul Auster graduated from Beth Tfiloh in 2007, where he played soccer and basketball. Following High School, Paul graduated from the University of Maryland School of Business, where he studied accounting and business management. Recently completing his MBA at George Washington University, Paul is now director of client operations at Morgan Stanley. His journey is a testament to his dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence in both academia and the professional realm. Paul is married to BT alum Gabby Roffe ’07, and they are BT couple #34 of 37!

A special thanks to Marty ’94 and Vered ’95 Taylor, for their vision and generosity in sponsoring our brunch!
ALUMNI TEACHING STUDENTS We were very excited to welcome many of our alumni back to BT as guest teachers in various classrooms. Our alums came to teach and share their expertise in geopolitics, technology, history, physics, and math with our current High School students. They also spoke about Jewish campus life, internship opportunities and campus safety during these times of rising antisemitism. Thank you to all our alumni who returned to share their knowledge: Ari Burman ’21, Alexis Silhavy ’21, Rikki Margalit ’19, Gabrielle Goldman ’19, Roni Scheffer ’23, Selena Shirkin ’20, Phillip Shirkin ’22, Ami Ashman ’23, Micah Warschawski ’23, Avi Goldman ’21, Abby Sullivan ’18, Erela Imanoel ’22, Milena Rodban ’04, Gabby Price ’21, Alexis Leibowitz ’21, Talia Moshman ’21

ALUMNI HIGHLIGHTS The senior class participates in a “Senior Seminar” where they engage with diverse guest speakers. Three of these sessions were particularly special, as our BT alumni came back to impart valuable knowledge to our students, focusing on topics related to Israel and the current landscape of antisemitism in both workplaces and college campuses. Ayelet Resnick ’11:
After graduating from BT in 2011, Ayelet did a gap year program in Israel called year course, through Young Judea, and went on to get her undergraduate degree in Psychology and her master’s in industrial organizational psychology. Ayelet now works at Deloitte, one of the largest professional services firms in the world, as a Learning and Development specialist. With fellow BT alum, Eli Plaut ’11, Ayelet co-founded the “Jewish Grassroots Community” which serves as common grounds and a safe space for Jewish Deloitte professionals to meet, belong, and connect. Ayelet, who has also held formal roles in the DEI space, came to speak with our current seniors about the importance of holding on to your Jewish identity and shared aspects of DEI in the context of the workplace. Now more than ever, we recognize how important it is to hold on to our Jewish identity beyond the halls of Beth Tfiloh. Simon Blekhman ’03: After graduating from BT in 2003, Simon studied at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he double majored in finance and economics. He spent a few years working as a pricing analyst for Thomson Reuters Pricing Service, but ultimately joined Tikvah, a nonprofit ideas institution committed to supporting the intellectual, religious, and political leaders of the Jewish people and the Jewish state. In his ten years at Tikvah, Simon worked on a wide range of Tikvah’s educational initiatives, including working directly with college students for several years as associate director of Tikvah’s university programs and college summer fellowship. He is now the director of communications and special projects. During Senior seminar, Simon discussed some of the major talking points and falsehoods being shared on college campuses. His message is important to the seniors who will be on college campuses next year, but it is relevant for all of us. While it’s important to hold on to our Jewish identity and beliefs, it’s equally as important to stay educated and involved.
As Simon shared, “getting older and going to college is about learning to take responsibility. As knowledgeable and proud Jews, you’re among the best positioned to take some of that responsibility on yourselves, and to help bring the light of our people onto your campuses.” Dr. Noam Weissman ’03: Since graduating from BT in 2003, Dr. Noam Weissman completed his doctoral dissertation in Educational Psychology from the University of Southern California, with a focus on curriculum design. His dissertation, entitled “Approaching Israel Education,” argues for a new vision in learning about the modern State of Israel. Noam served as the principal of Shalhevet High School in Los Angeles, and then went on to become the Executive Vice President of OpenDor Media, where he spearheads the organization’s educational vision and leads content creation. OpenDor Media educates, entertains, and engages a global audience of millions by producing and distributing Jewish and Israel content. During Senior seminar, Noam brought his advanced knowledge about Israel to speak on different falsehoods and arguments about the current war and relevant history. Addressing terms such as colonialism, occupation and other narratives that are becoming more mainstream, our students were able to ask tough questions and learn about these issues in depth. Noam returned to BT in early January to discuss how students can explore the toughest questions about Israel, and how to be responsible consumers of social media. He also served as a BT Scholar in Residence, delivering the Shabbat sermon, covering issues such as the online Israel education battle.
Andrew Bassan ’06 Recently our very own alum, Andrew Bassan, competed on the hit TV game show, Wheel of Fortune! Mazel tov to Andrew, who is the second BT alum to appear on the show. David Steinberg ’99 made the first appearance in 2013.

THE WEINER FAMILY TOURNAMENT After 13 years, our BT Boys Varsity basketball team was named the Weiner Family Tournament CHAMPIONS!!! The halls of BT were once again filled with exhilaration and ruach as student athletes from North America and Canada flocked to BT to continue this long-standing BT community tradition. We loved seeing our devoted BT community – including many of our alumni – back on campus, schmoozing with coaches, players, fans, faculty, host families, families of visiting athletes, and with one another. Our BT Warriors made us proud! Thank you to the Weiner Family for their vision and generous support of the Tournament.

WE STAND WITH ISRAEL Together with many alumni and faculty, more than 250 Beth Tfiloh students in grades 7 through 12 attended the Rally for Israel on November 14th in Washington, D.C.on buses generously sponsored by the Baltimore Zionist District and The Associated. Our students continue to pray for Israel, give tzedakah for Israeli causes, and advocate for Israel.
We are so proud of all our alumni who have served, or are currently serving, in the IDF: Adam Cohen ’90 Joel Rubenstein ’90 Jack Bennett ’91 Eric Kornblit ’91 Ezra Olman ’91 Amit Nadiv ’94 Ian Merles ’96 Jeremy Bob ’96 Yonah Russ ’96 Michael Mashbaum ’98 Joe Rombro ’00 Yoni Birnbaum ’02 Scott Blumberg ’03 Moshe Goldberg ’03 Amir Tsemach ’03 Elie Berman ’04 Yoni Rose ’04 Zach Alter ’06 Alex Simone ’06 Traci Siegel ’07 Ephraim Shapiro ’08 Ari Benjamin ’09 Joshua Rosen ’09 z”l Arky Staiman ’09 Aaron Edelman ’10 Binyamin Goldman ’10 Lillian Walder ’11 Joshua August ’12 Channa Rifkin ’12 Yossi Kuttler ’13 Jordan Low ’13 Noah Abromowitz ’13 Danny Gross ’14 Gilbert Rifkin ’14 Hilla Singerman ’14 Gil Kuttler ’15 Josh Schwartz ’15 Dean Shalem ’15 Daniel Goldman ’16 Shuli Klein ’16 Sammy Friedmann ’17 Yael Muroff ’18 Sammy Cohen ’18 Guy Mei-Tal ’19 Emma Rifkin ’19 Evyatar Singerman ’19 Natalie Grossman ’19 Naomi Bennett ’20 Eden Shoshan ’20 Gaya Friedman ’20 Ari Heyman ’20 Max Goldman ’20 Gavriel Leichter ’20 Allison Schwartz ’21 Noah Rubin ’21 Gabrielle Moshkatal ’22
