Bulletin THE BETH TFILOH
Summer Shabbat Services "Up Close and Personal" Beginning July 1 through mid-August, our Shabbat morning services will be combined in the Dahan Sanctuary from 9 am to 11:30 am, and will introduce some new innovations. As part of a theme entitled, “Davening Up Close and Personal,” services will be led from a reader’s table positioned at floor level, in front of the Bima. In lieu of a formal sermon, our rabbis will give Torah Tidbits at the conclusion of services, which will be followed by a variety of fun themes for kiddush. Services will also include explanations of the meaning of prayers to help add meaning and relevance. Rabbi Chai Posner explained that “the goal of the summer format is to allow us to work on prayer as a collective.”

Dr. Zipora Schorr to receive Honorary Doctorate from Bar-Ilan University, Dahan Campus to be dedicated Beth Tfiloh Director of Education, Dr. Zipora Schorr will receive a second doctorate this month, when she is among an elite group of accomplished Israelis and Americans receiving Doctorates Honoris Causa from Bar-Ilan University in Israel. The conferment ceremony will take
place on Tuesday, June 4 at the Dahan Family Unity Park. At a separate program, Bar-Ilan will dedicate the Dahan Campus, which will be the most recent Bar-Ilan facility to honor the names of our beloved members and benefactors, Aharon and Rachel Dahan z'l.
Rabbanit Bracha Jaffe to be honored June 22 Chana Slavaticki to head Mercaz Rabbanit Bracha Jaffe has been a beloved and respected member of our synagogue and school staff for the past two years. During that time, she has Rabbanit Bracha Jaffe shown herself to be a an extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and highly professional member of our leadership team. She has contributed much to our community in her roles as Community Educator and Director of Mercaz. Rabbanit Jaffe will be leaving Beth Tfiloh this summer to take the experiences she has had here and all that she has learned to further grow in her professional role as a spiritual leader. We look forward to the opportunity to express our appreciation to Rabbanit Jaffe for her many contributions at a special Shabbat service on Saturday, June 22. We are most gratified by the significant strides that have been made in women's programming during Rabbanit Jaffe's tenure at BT and have
made it a priority to ensure that the momentum continues in these areas. We are excited to announce that longtime Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School Mrs. Chana Slavaticki faculty member and BT in the AM teacher Mrs. Chana Slavaticki will take the helm as Director of Mercaz. Mrs. Slavaticki is excited to take on this new endeavor. “After teaching BT in the AM for the past eight years, I am honored to be expanding my responsibilities at Mercaz. It was truly a privilege working with Sandy Vogel, of blessed memory, who spearheaded Mercaz and created an outstanding program. I am grateful to Rabbanit Jaffe for creating a seamless transition, and for adding a fresh perspective and innovative ideas. I look forward to envisioning how Mercaz can continue to serve as a premier adult education program,” said Mrs. Slavaticki.

Meet Our Members Meet Leah and Mike Tutnauer The birth of Miss Sidney Tutnauer three years ago brought her parents, Leah and Mike, to Beth Tfiloh. The newly-minted parents who had recently located to Pikesville sought a shul community that would provide their growing family a place to daven for the High Holidays and kid-friendly programming year-round.

BT delivered on all counts. “We love all the programming geared towards families,” shared Leah. “Everything from Cookie Minyan, which Sidney really enjoys, to the great lunch and dinner programs designed to provide fun for children while enjoying family time together.” Sidney, a BT PreSchool student, also loves showing her parents the shofars on display in the synagogue lobby. The Tutnauers instantly became a multi-generational BT family last summer when Leah’s parents, Sandy and Keith Kanter, moved to Pikesville. “After living in Chicago their whole lives, they picked up and moved to Pikesville so they could be closer to us, and more importantly, to Sidney. We are so happy to have them close by.” Sandy and Keith, who teach at BT PreSchool and Krieger Schechter Day School respectively, are “committed 10

shul-goers and immediately joined BT upon moving here,” according to Leah. “I am so happy they have found a home at BT as well, and we enjoy meeting up at shul on Saturdays and attending the great BT programs together!” The Tutnauers’ favorite BT moment involves the Kanters as well. “We celebrated my dad's 65th birthday at the Chapel Minyan kiddush,” said Leah. “It means so much to me to have them close by and to have a place like BT where we can come together to celebrate. It is wonderful to see that they have been able to really ingratiate themselves into the BT community in such a short time.”
