Sisterhood News The Beth Tfiloh Auditorium is the scene for our 93rd Annual Donor event. This year we proudly honor Charlene Schimberg, who after her retirement from a career as a teacher, found good use for her skills at Beth Tfiloh as a Communications Associate. In the past, she served honorably as President of Sisterhood and stepped up again to join the Beth Tfiloh Sisterhood Consortium of Presidents, where she continues to contribute her expertise and support. Charlene is our go-to gal at Beth Tfiloh. We hope you’ll all come to honor her at the Annual Donor Event. RSVP by November 10 to Mrs. Rena Polun, 12 Stonehenge Circle #11, 21208. For further information, contact Susie Rotkovitz at 410-655-0580, or srotkovitz@towson.edu or Loryn Lesser, lslesser811@gmail.com BINGO! sponsored jointly by the Brotherhood and Sisterhood. New Start in Life: On Sunday, December 7, Beth Tfiloh will collect clothing for women of limited means who find themselves back on the job market with no suitable interview outfits. The fall and winter clothing should be clean, with all fasteners in working condition. Selected items of clothing are also needed for men. Details for this social action will be available shortly. Please go through your closets and save some nice things for this drive. A big thank you to the High Holiday floral decoration committee headed by Sandy Dobres and assisted by Brenda Boches, Sheila Kessler, Sonia Maltinsky, Brenda Pariser, Anne Pfeffer and Judy Warner. We would not have had the beautifully decorated sukkah on the Tuvin Patio

if it weren’t for Sylvia Sklar and her dedicated committee, including Brotherhood members Robert Cohen and Arnold Maltinsky. Gift Shop: Chanukah is coming: first candle on the evening of December 16. The Gift Shop has a fine supply of chanukiahs to suit those with traditional or whimsical tastes, college youth, newlyweds, and children. Lots of gifts, too, as well as our stock of Judaica, kippot, tallitot, and prayer books. We are always happy to help with advance bulk orders for B’nai Mitzvot. Education: All Sisterhood meetings begin with the reading and interpretation of a Parsha, faithfully supplied by our Vice-President for Education, Anita Knisbacher.

BT Students’ Summer Israel Experiences By Samantha S. ‘16

WES MOORE - Youth advocate, Army combat veteran, social entrepreneur and author Wes Moore mesmerized and inspired the entire High School student body, faculty and eighth grade class at his recent presentation, made possible by the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation.

6

While most teens spent their summers working at camp, going to the beach and hanging with friends, many Beth Tfiloh students traveled to Israel on various summer programs. These programs, organized through sleep away camps, youth movements and Jewish organizations, combined sightseeing, community service, leadership and religion into the ultimate summer experience. In late June, when the conflict between Hamas and Israel began, many teen programs were canceled and postponed, while

travelers on other programs already in Israel were forced into bomb shelters. Despite these few drawbacks, students remained in high spirits, making truly inspiring connections and memories in the homeland. Learning a lot from these trips, many of the students recount the experiences that are still influencing them now that they have returned to school. Eleventh grader Audrey M. ‘16 traveled to Israel as part of a six-week CIT summer program, organized through JCC Maccabi and her sleep away camp. Scan QR code to continue article
