welcome
as a congregation and school dedicated to serving the most diverse and vibrant Jewish community on the national scene, Beth Tfiloh offers an extensive calendar of services, programs and events that is truly unparalleled. There is something for everyone at BT—for adults, families, and children from toddlers to teens—to enrich Jewish learning and to foster a sense of community, and to give back to our community through our “bt cares!” social action program. From Shabbat services and Yom Tov celebrations to weekly adult classes for the novice and advanced learner alike, to a vast offering of youth and family programs, Beth Tfiloh is committed to embracing your family’s desire to further explore their love of Judaism “from generation to generation.” We look forward to being part of your extended family again this year. shabbat at beth tfiloh
B
eth Tfiloh’s weekly Shabbat services provide a choice of services with a number of “user-friendly” enhancements. A full complement of children’s services, babysitting and a beautiful new glass-enclosed Rynd Family Room adjacent to the sanctuary make the Modern Orthodox service especially attractive to families with young children. The addition of a halachically approved Tzomet sound system, a mechitza, and increased participation by women are innovations which aim to expand the appeal of this unique house of worship. The Minyan service on Shabbat morning and Yomim Tovim provides a less formal service in a more intimate setting to enable Beth Tfiloh to serve the broadest cross section of the Jewish community. Inspiring “talk of the town” sermons by Rabbis Mitchell Wohlberg, Chai Posner, and Elliot Kaplowitz, plus the melodic baritone of Cantor Avi Albrecht, make Beth Tfiloh’s service truly unique on the American Jewish scene.

Grade level Shabbatonim will be held throughout the year.
bar/bat mitzvah program BN
The Beth Tfiloh B’nei Mitzvah Program has been developed to prepare B’nei Mitzvah students for the responsibilities of Jewish adulthood, and provide them and their families a meaningful and memorable Jewish life-cycle experience. Beth Tfiloh’s B’nei Mitzvah class meets with Rabbi Wohlberg to enrich the experience of the year leading up to their Bar/Bat Mitzvah through a series of Shabbat, Yom Tov, and hands on programs coordinated by Lindsay Gaister, preparing them to take on adult mitzvot. Additional elements of the program include family education regarding synagogue rituals and Jewish life-cycle events, Jewish parent-teen issues, group and individual mitzvah projects, and individualized study of Torah and/or Haftorah portions with a Bar/ Bat Mitzvah tutor.
Teen Minyan is a student-led service held in the High School Beit Midrash that allows both young men and women to take part in the Shabbat experience. Services are conducted on a weekly basis and on holidays. A special Kiddush, prepared especially for our “minyonaires-in-training,” follows each service. Assisting with this service is the dedicated Stan Lustman and a rotation of young adults who provide excellent role models for our students.
Teen Minyan reconvenes on September 1.
babysitting P
Babysitting for children (ages 1–4) is available weekly from 10 am until the end of services and during all Yom Tovim as well.
rynd family room P
Located adjacent to Dahan Sanctuary, the Rynd Family Room provides a child-friendly environment for parents and their infants or toddlers, complete with a viewing window and sound system enabling parents to feel part of the Sanctuary service.
For information about these mitzvah programs, contact Lindsay Gaister at 410-413-2224 or lgaister@btfiloh.org. For more information on getting an assigned date, please contact Eve Kresin Steinberg at 410-413-2251 or esteinberg@btfiloh.org, or Cherie Brownstein at 410-413-2220 or CSbrownstein@btfiloh.org.

session 1 the mystical, the rational, the ethical and the american way: four paths to one god
rabbi mitchell wohlberg It is said that actions speak louder than words. That is certainly true in Judaism. Ours has been described as a religion of “deed, not creed.” But while we have codes of Jewish law telling us exactly how to act, there is no agreement on why we Jews are called upon to act the way we do. We will study the different approaches developed through the ages on why we do what we do…and how the mitzvot are designed to bring us closer to God…and our fellow human beings.

The Beth Tfiloh Athletic Department and Youth Center co-sponsor Sunday sports throughout the school year. Soccer is offered in the fall, basketball in the winter, and lacrosse and t-ball are offered in the spring. The Sunday sports program includes students in the PreSchool Fours, Gan Aleph, Kindergarten, and Grades 1–5. The program meets at specified times for each grade level on Sunday mornings, between 9–11 am. The sports programs are designed to develop skills and knowledge of the game in an environment of good sportsmanship. Each day begins with drills followed by a game. The program is run by the Beth Tfiloh professional staff with the assistance of parents. For more information, contact the Youth Center at 410-413-2221 or sknauth@btfiloh.org.

Whether your child is 4 or 14, BT Camps has a great program, with a dedicated staff of counselors and activity specialists, and an outstanding facility. All-Day Campers enjoy a wide variety of activities including sports, arts and crafts, boating, and nature. Everyone swims twice a day, once for instruction and once just for fun. The younger campers enjoy playground, splashpad, music, and Tarbut (Jewish culture). As campers grow, so does our program. Older Campers are introduced to campcraft, our challenge course, archery, electives, and more. For more information, visit btcamps.org or call 410-517-3451.
