01 THE STANTON TYPE: AREA: COURSE:
HOTEL (COMMERCIAL) 150,787 SQ. FT. COMMERCIAL DESIGN
NESTLED IN MANHATTAN’S HISTORIC AND NEWLY TRENDY LOWER EAST SIDE, THE STANTON WAS DESIGNED TO STAY TRUE TO IT’S NEIGHBORHOOD. TRADITIONALLY AN IMMIGRANT NEIGHBORHOOD, IT BEGAN RAPID GENTRIFICATION IN THE MID 2000S. NOW THE LOWER EAST SIDE IS HOME TO SOME OF MAN HATTAN’S TRENDIEST SHOPS, GALLERIES AND RESTAURANTS. ALTHOUGH THE LOWER EAST SIDE MAY BE TRENDY, IT HAS BEEN ABLE TO KEEP ITS DIVERSE AND ECLECTIC CHARM. THAT WAS THE GOAL WHEN DESIGNING THE STANTON, TALL COLUMNS AND INTRICATE MOULDINGS GIVE A SENSE OF GRANDURE AND HISTORY TO THE LOBBY. THE GOLD METALLIC FRONT DESK ADDS A MODERN TWIST, AND THE FUNISHINGS HAVE A VINTAGE AND ECLECTIC FEEL.

BRIAN AND JONI BAKER RESIDENTIAL 3,911 SQ. FT. RESIDENTIAL DESIGN
WITH THE BAKER’S LIFESTYLE IN MIND, I WANTED TO CREATE A MODERN SPACE THAT WOULD BE FUNCTIONAL FOR THE FAMILY TO LIVE IN, BUT YET, STYLISH. SINCE THE BAKER’S ARE LOVERS OF ART, I WANTED THE SPACE TO BE EQUALLY AS BEATIFUL AS THE ART WITHOUT DISTRACTING AWAY FROM THE ARTWORK ITSELF. I USED A NEUTRAL COLOR PALETTE AND LET THE TEXTURES, SILHOUETTES, AND SCALE OF THE FURNISHINGS AND ARCHITECTURE TRULY BE THE STAR OF THIS SPACE.

IN DESIGNING THIS SPACE, I WANTED TO REFLECT WHAT MINERAL SERVICES IS AS A COMPANY INTO A PHYSICAL SPACE. THE SPACE WILL FEATURE NATURAL ELEMENTS SUCH AS ROCK AND STONE FINISHES, AS WELL AS PRECIOUS METAL FINISHES. THESE FINISHES WILL COMPLEMENT MINERAL SERVICE’S EXTENSIVE WORK IN THEIR RESPECTIVE EXPLORATION, GEOLOGY AND MINING INDUSTRIES. SINCE, MINERAL SERVICES IS A WELL-RESPECTED LEADER IN THE INDUSTRY, WITH A DIVERSE NETWORK OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE, THE SPACE WILL REFLECT THAT AND BE A CLEAN, SIMPLE AND STRAIGHT FORWARD DESIGN THAT WILL COMPLEMENT THE CREDIBILITY OF COMPANY.

MAMA BEAR CHAIR
08 MAMA BEAR CHAIR COURSE:
FURNITURE DESIGN
CRITERIA:
TO DESIGN AND CREATE AN ADULT SIZED PIECE OF FURNITURE MADE ENTIRELY OUT OF CARDBOARD FOR A BOUTIQUE STORE OWNER. THIS PIECE OF FURNITURE MUST BE ABLE TO BE FOLD/UNFOLDED AND FLAT PACKED FOR TRANSPORTATION.
SOLUTION:
TO CONCEPTUALIZE, DESIGN, AND CREATE AND A FUNCTIONAL AND AESTHETICALLY ATTRACTIVE PIECE OF FURNITURE THAT MEETS ALL OF THE CLIENT’S WANTS AND NEEDS.
CONCEPT:
SINCE THE CLIENT OWNS A BOUTIQUE THAT SELLS KID’S FURNITURE, I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GREAT IDEA TO DESIGN A PIECE OF FURNITURE THAT APPEALS TO THE EXISTING CLIENTELE, THE PARENTS. THIS PIECE OF FURNITURE SHOULD COMPLEMENT A NURSERY OR CHILD’S ROOM AND BE ATTRACTIVE, FUN, STURDY AND COMFORTABLE.

09 BLACK SWAN SALOON CLIENT: TYPE: AREA: LOCATION:
SHG II LLC. BAR, COMMERCIAL 1250 SQ. FT. DALLAS, TX, USA
LOCATED IN THE DEEP ELLUM NEIGHBORHOOD, THE BLACK SWAN SALOON IS LOCATED IN AN OLD CHARACTER BUILDING. WITH THAT IN MIND, I WANTED TO KEEP IT QUITE SIMPLE. SINCE THE SPACE WAS A LONG AND NARROW SPACE WITH HIGH CEILINGS, I DESIGNED A STAGGERED WOOD LIQUOR DISPLAY/FEATURE WALL TO ACCENTUATE THE HIGH CEILINGS AND GIVE A SENSE OF OPENESS IN A SMALL AREA.

EXTERIOR THE BRICK EXTERIOR LENDS ITSELF TO THE PROHIBITION ERA. WITH A MODEST SIGN THAT SIMPLY SAYS, “BAR”. THIS SPEAKEASY-ESQUE EXTERIOR IS SIMPLY CLASSIC.
