EDITOR'S LETTER
Over the last few months I’ ve been exploring our personal and individual relationships within the realm of fashion. Stemming from picking up a copy of the intriguing narrative ‘Fashion: A Philosophy’ , by Lars Svendsen and discovering questions about the self and the style the self seems to represent. The tribes we join, the icons we emulate, the fads we attach ourselves too and the essence of independence we often exude when wearing certain garments, especially when we take on a particularly fashionable look. Does our style display an accurate representation of our mind? Does our clothing feature as an existential accessory of our person? In the ‘IDENTITY’ issue we attempt to discuss these questions touching on themes of belonging, happiness, the heritage of home, being at one with the self and contrasting the eccentricity of costume vs. the cutting edge. Our covershoot #TRIBEGOALS, with the boys of VANITY VAGUE, constructs a boy-gang of a postapocalyptic world draped in the streetwear of tomorrow. Their identities bound together as a single tribe, reflected in their militant inspired attire with a hint of the avant garde. Shot by Dublin based fashion photographer Ricky Mangala with hair created by Paul Mac Special, we also have photosets from Aigars Endzelis, Dorje Deburgh and the one and only BigBad Llama. Who touched on the man behind drag act Sassie Longshaft aka Scott Shilliday in a theatrical display to highlight the person who created the queen. We’ ve also included two backstage stories from the Belfast FASHIONWEEK AW15 Menswear Show and the monumental SYMPHONIC X ACTION CANCER at the Crumlin Road Jail. Focusing on the world beyond the catwalk, the rails, the models and the mayhem in-between. I hope you enjoy exploring this new issue and optimistically exploring what your own self discovers about style in the process. Best, Lewis Cameron Beyond Man Fashion Editor & Stylist
