Boys To Men
VOL. 8.
LETTER FROM The EDITOR A few months ago, I took a trip down memory lane. I. e I flicked through my Facebook timeline, taking me all the way back to my uni days where it appears I was rather fond of v-neck tees, faded denim j eans and tight fitted shirts. Boke. It occurred to me at this point whilst hiding my eyes in disgust and knife j abbing pain that we all went through this, right? That awkward-finding-our-own-style-stage. Aka the let’ s never speak of this again for the love of God stage. Interestingly, what intrigued me the most was how different and how totally and utterly contrasting my individual style is now. I’ m 100% a completely different person. Gone are the v-neck’ s, replaced by KTZ and Kenzo. Gone are the faded denims, swapped for motif embroidered leggings and pleated culottes. Fitted shirts eradicated to make way for embellished blazers. Reminding me that while I was studying at the London College of Fashion, someone once spoke the words “Style cannot be taught. ” I wouldn’ t put that on the website btw. Probably won’ t bode well for prospective students. I do tend to agree to a certain degree, style can’ t be taught but it can however be created. It can be explored, developed and most importantly, it can be evolved. Style, like the fashion industry itself goes through various stages and so we come to our latest offering; BEYOND MAN: VOL 8. BOYS TO MEN. Beau, alpha, dude, bro, fella, pig, player, guy, legend. All words used often to describe a man. Right or wrong, the words have meaning, all of which are worthy of being examined. Especially right now at a time where masculinity is very much finding new avenues and new labels to express new depths of what it means to be a man, and what it means to push those definitions to their very limits.
