Welcome The Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Revd Nick Baines We stand
Hymn Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live, a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive. Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace; here the love of Christ shall end divisions: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place. Let us build a house where prophets speak, and words are strong and true, where all God's children dare to seek to dream God's reign anew. Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God's grace; here as one we claim the faith of Jesus: Let us build a house where love is found in water, wine and wheat: a banquet hall on holy ground where peace and justice meet. Here the love of God, through Jesus, is revealed in time and space; as we share in Christ the feast that frees us: Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the wood and stone to heal and strengthen, serve and teach, and live the Word they've known. Here the outcast and the stranger bear the image of God's face; let us bring an end to fear and danger:

Let us build a house where all are named, their songs and visions heard and loved and treasured, taught and claimed as words within the Word. Built of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace, let this house proclaim from floor to rafter: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place. Words: Marty Haughen (b1950) Tune: TWO OAKS; SP 176

Psalm 145.1-14, 21 1
I will magnify thee, O God, my King * and I will praise thy Name for ever and ever. 2 Every day will I give thanks unto thee * and praise thy Name for ever and ever. 3 Great is the Lord, and marvellous worthy to be praised * there is no end of his greatness. 4 One generation shall praise thy works unto another * and declare thy power. 5 As for me, I will be talking of thy worship * thy glory, thy praise, and wondrous works; 6 So that men shall speak of the might of thy marvellous acts * and I will also tell of thy greatness. 7 The memorial of thine abundant kindness shall be shewed * and men shall sing of thy righteousness. 8 The Lord is gracious, and merciful * long-suffering, and of great goodness. 9 The Lord is loving unto every man * and his mercy is over all his works. 10 All thy works praise thee, O Lord * and thy saints give thanks unto thee. 11 They shew the glory of thy kingdom * and talk of thy power; 12 That thy power, thy glory, and mightiness of thy kingdom * might be known unto men. 13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom * and thy dominion endureth throughout all ages. 14 The Lord upholdeth all such as fall * and lifteth up all those that are down. 21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord * and let all flesh give thanks unto his holy Name for ever and ever. We stand Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Old Testament Reading
Isaiah 65.17-25 read by Canon Mandy Coutts
17
For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind. 18 But be glad and rejoice for ever in what I am creating; for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy, and its people as a delight. 19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and delight in my people; no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it, or the cry of distress. 20 No more shall there be in it an infant that lives but a few days, or an old person who does not live out a lifetime; for one who dies at a hundred years will be considered a youth, and one who falls short of a hundred will be considered accursed. 21 They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 22 They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands. 23 They shall not labour in vain, or bear children for calamity; for they shall be offspring blessed by the Lord— and their descendants as well. 24 Before they call I will answer, while they are yet speaking I will hear. 25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox; but the serpent—its food shall be dust! They shall not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain, says the Lord. Silence

Magnificat
Sumsion in A
MY soul doth magnify the Lord : and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded : the lowliness of his hand-maiden. For behold, from henceforth : all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me : and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on them that fear him : throughout all generations. He hath shewed strength with his arm : he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seat : and hath exalted the humble and meek. He hath filled the hungry with good things : and the rich he hath sent empty away. He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel : as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed, for ever. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son : and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be : world without end. Amen.

New Testament Reading
Philippians 4.4-8 read by Canon Paul Maybury
4
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8
Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Silence We stand

Sumsion in A
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace : according to thy word. For mine eyes have seen : thy salvation; Which thou hast prepared : before the face of all people; To be a light to lighten the Gentiles : and to be the glory of thy people Israel. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son : and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be : world without end. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth: and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the Communion of Saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and the Life everlasting. Amen.
Lesser Litany The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. Let us pray. We sit Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. 9
O Lord, shew thy mercy upon us. And grant us thy salvation. O Lord, save the Queen. And mercifully hear us when we call upon thee. Endue thy Ministers with righteousness. And make thy chosen people joyful. O Lord, save thy people. And bless thine inheritance. Give peace in our time, O Lord. Because there is none other that fighteth for us, but only thou, O God. O God, make clean our hearts within us. And take not thy Holy Spirit from us. The Collects are sung:
Collect of the Day Grant, O Lord, we beseech thee, that the course of this world may be so peaceably ordered by thy governance, that thy Church may joyfully serve thee in all godly quietness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect for Peace O God, from whom all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works do proceed; give unto thy servants that peace which the world cannot give; that both, our hearts may be set to obey thy commandments, and also that, by thee, we being defended from the fear of our enemies may pass our time in rest and quietness; through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
Collect for Aid against all Perils Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord; and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of thy only Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen. 10

Sermon The Very Reverend Jerry Lepine, Dean of Bradford
Anthem Lord of wisdom, Lord of truth, Lord of justice, Lord of mercy; walk beside us down the years till we see you in your glory. Striving to attain the heights, turning in a new direction, entering a lonely place, welcoming a friend or stranger. I am here, I am with you. I have called: do you hear me? I am here, I am here, I am with you. Silver is of passing worth, gold is not of constant value, jewels sparkle for a while; what you long for is not lasting. I am here, I am with you. I have called: do you hear me? I am here, I am here, I am with you. Rulers govern under me with my insight and my wisdom. Those who know me know my love, those who seek me find their answer. I am here, I am with you. I have called: do you hear me? I am here, I am here, I am with you. God the Father and the Son, Holy Spirit coeternal. Glory be ascribed to you, now and to the end of ages. I am here, I am with you. I have called: do you hear me? I am here, I am here, I am with you. Words: Michael Hampel (based on Proverbs 8) Music: Will Todd (b.1970)

Psalm 121 During this Psalm the Dean of Bradford moves to the Sanctuary and places the Bradford cope on the High Altar. 1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills * from whence cometh my help. 2 My help cometh even from the Lord * who hath made heaven and earth. 3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved * and he that keepeth thee will not sleep. 4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel * shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord himself is thy keeper * the Lord is thy defence upon thy right hand; 6 So that the sun shall not burn thee by day * neither the moon by night. 7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil * yea, it is even he that shall keep thy soul. 8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out, and thy coming in * from this time forth for evermore. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son : and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen. On returning he stands facing Bishop Nick and says: Bishop Nick, you entrusted me with the stewardship of this your Cathedral church of St Peter, Bradford in July 2013. I now return it to you, laying down this charge and seeking your blessing. Bishop Nick prays The Lord grant you courage to meet the future and grace to let go into new life. So, may the Lord bless you and watch over you, the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you, the Lord look kindly on you and give you peace; Amen Go in peace knowing that God goes with you.

Hymn Guide me, O thou great Redeemer, pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but thou art mighty; hold me with thy powerful hand: Bread of heaven, feed me now and evermore. Open now the crystal fountain whence the healing stream doth flow; let the fiery cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through: strong deliverer, be thou still my strength and shield. When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside; death of death, and hell’s destruction, land me safe on Canaan’s side: songs and praises I will ever give to thee. Words: Welsh, William Williams, tr Peter and William Williams Tune: Cwm Rhondda CP455
