Wholeness

Today: The FLOWERS today have been given by James and Val Muff in memory of Michaela Fowler. AUGUSTINER-KANTOREI: The Yorkshire tour of the choir from our Link Diocese of Erfurt in Germany begins today, when over 100 singers will join together to offer music as part of our worship at our 10:15am Eucharist. You can follow their progress around the county, which includes the organ recital here on Wednesday, on our blog at bradfordcathedral.wordpress.com/blog It is also hoped that they will join us for Choral Evensong at 4pm, but as part of the congregation. HOPE ON THE EDGE returns today at 6pm where you can hear from young people about the issues that concern them and their views of church, with opportunities to ask questions and pray together. EVENTS 2020: See Phil TODAY We are currently planning our events for next year and would like your input on what you think has gone well or could be improved, as well as events you'd like to see next year. If you have any thoughts please see Phil today at the Fairtrade Stall or e-mail them to events@bradfordcathedral.org THIS WEEK: SILENCE SPACE is on Monday from1pm – 1.30pm in the tranquillity of St Aidan’s Chapel. MONDAY FELLOWSHIP meets on Monday at 2pm in the Parish Room, when Canon Myra Shackley will speak on ‘Frankincense: yesterday and today’. This Fellowship Group is a lovely way to spend an afternoon so why not go along and listen to Canon Myra and enjoy a cuppa afterwards. All are welcome. The WEDNESDAY@1 ORGAN RECITAL welcomes the Augustiner-Kantorei Choir from our link diocese of Erfurt in Germany. The Choir is based at the monastery where Martin Luther was a monk and which has a history dating back to 1877. This will be a very different and exciting performance and definitely a recital not to be missed. The recital will start at 1pm and there will be the buffet lunch (£4) from 12.30-12.55pm. The recital is free, but there will be a retiring collection.

THE ALPHA COURSE continues on Wednesday from 5.30pm – 7pm. All are welcome, but please let Canon Mandy, any of the clergy or the Cathedral Office know if you would like to attend and have any special dietary requirements. The de LACY LECTURE ‘Reading the Bible with a Great Company of Artists’ is

this Wednesday at 7pm, with refreshments from 6.30pm and when we will welcome Canon Professor Ben Quash, who is our Canon Theologian. Entry is free, but if you can let us know on bradfordcathedral.eventbrite.com if you are attending it would help us. More information is on our website or in the October issue of Keeping in Touch. ECO EXTRAVAGANZA Our first Eco Extravaganza is to be held NEXT

Saturday 19th October when there will be stalls, children’s activities, guest speakers, film and worship. There will also be an all-day Fairtrade and local produce café with a vegetable soup and bread lunch. You will be able to buy things from our Fairtrade Stall so do come along for a fun day and find out things we can all do to make a change and difference to our world. Volunteers are still needed to help on the day and please contact the Cathedral Office if you are able to help, even if just for a while. BISHOP ROY WILLIAMSON

There is to be a thanksgiving for Bishop Roy Williamson at Choral Evensong on Sunday 20th October at 4pm. This will be led by The Dean and Bishop Colin Buchanan will be preaching. Bishop Roy was Bishop of Bradford from 1984-1991 and is very fondly remembered by many people. Everyone is welcome to come and remember him and to give thanks for his life and ministry. The popular BRING & SHARE LUNCH is NEXT Sunday 20th October at

12 noon in No 3 Cathedral Close. Any cold food you can bring to share would be most welcome, but even if you can’t you are still welcome to go along. At the 10.15am Eucharist next Sunday, we will welcome as our preacher the

Revd Chris Swift, an Anglican Priest who is Director of Chaplaincy and Spirituality at Methodist Homes. EXHIBITIONS: The current By the Hand of …Icons exhibition runs until the 20th October and will be replaced by: COMMON THREADS: Alive With Change in the North transept and which will run from 23rd October – 27th November, with ‘Meet the Artist’ on Wednesday 23rd October at 7pm (refreshments from 6.30pm). The exhibition looks at our textile city of Bradford through its own medium, reflecting growth and change, wealth and poverty and exclusion and diversity. REVISED SEATING ARRANGEMENTS. Please let us have your views, which will be taken to the Community Committee, by completing a feedback form on the sound desk and either put it into the box or give it to Monica. Your views are important and do matter so please let us know what you think.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES will be starting on Saturday 26th October at 10am. If you would like to attend, either to be baptised or confirmed or as a refresher please contact Canon Mandy or one of the clergy. WEST END GARDEN We are looking for a team to help with the replanting of the West End Garden. If you could help, please see Canon Mandy. Thank you. Our FAIRTRADE STALL desperately needs more people to help with the stall on Sundays – could you help? We have run the stall for many years now, and we want to continue to do so, but we really do need more people to ‘join the team’. If you would like to help or know more, please speak to Jane Tarver or let Sandra Heaton in the Cathedral Office know. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The autumn season is always busy here at the Cathedral, and Advent will be especially busy. We are always needing new people to come and join our growing band of volunteers to help with refreshments; eco and Fairtrade ventures; welcoming on a Sunday morning as well as during the week; bell ringing; help with children both on Sundays and during the week, to mention just some of the wide variety of volunteer work we do here. Please do let us know if you can spare some time to help on a Sunday, or at other times during the week when the Cathedral gets busy with many other activities. Just let one of the churchwardens Monica or Alex know and we will be pleased to help you find the right niche for your special skills!! CATHEDRAL VACANCY: CHORISTERS' SINGING TEACHER Bradford Cathedral seeks the services of a professional musician to teach our choristers singing on most Saturday mornings during term-time. As part of their ongoing musical education, each full chorister in Bradford Cathedral Choir receives a free one-to-one fortnightly singing lesson. For more information please visit https://www.bradfordcathedral.org/about-us/careers/ or speak to Alex Berry, Director of Music. A message from David, our Head Verger I am looking for a team of lovely people to keep the cathedral sparkling and looking its best at all times. The care of the cathedral is a wonderful and vital ministry. I am looking for a group of up to 6 people, who would be able to give one or two hours each week. The tasks that need doing are dusting, and brass and wood polishing. I am anticipating that the group is split into 3 couples: one couple who focus on the dusting, one on the brass polishing, and one on the wood polishing. If you are interested in keeping the cathedral sparkling, I (David, the Head Verger) would love to hear from you; come and find me after the service or drop me an email at head.verger@bradfordcathedral.org
