TODAY we welcome the Revd Canon Andrew Tawn as our preacher at the 10.15am Eucharist. Andrew is a member of our College of Canons and Director of Clergy Development for the Diocese. WHAT’S ON programme for September – December 2019 is now available to view on our website, including all the arts and music events and services for the rest of the Centenary year. Many of the tickets for both free and paid events, and our services, are available to book online or at the Cathedral office, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Cathedral throughout the autumn. Printed copies of the programme will be available soon but there are a limited number of early printed drafts available during today’s service. INTERIM REPAIRS to the North Porch and Music Room steps will take place from 22 July until mid-August. During this time you may have to use the West door steps. On Sundays you will be able to access the Cathedral via the North Porch as per usual.
ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT required in the Diocesan Education Team. If you are interested please see https://pathways.churchofengland.org/job/pathways/1213/administration-assistant THIS WEEK: ACT SHAKESPEARE - Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? At Bradford Cathedral of course! ACT returns on 25-27 July with their latest production: this year it's 'Romeo and Juliet'. Tickets are available to buy from the Cathedral office or from the online Eventbrite page bradfordcathedral.eventbrite.com FAMILY ACTIVITIES The next two dates for our regular 'Family Activities' are happening on Tuesday 23 and Thursday 25 July from 10am - 2pm and will include crafts, trails and some Shakespearean-themed activities. Please help spread the word to those who might be interested! CUTTING OUT - Could you please help? Due to an increase in the number of schools visiting the Cathedral, our education department needs help with cutting out for the craft activities we offer at these visits. If you are able to spend an hour or so in the beautiful surroundings of our Cathedral it would be a big help and make a huge difference and will help Maggie and her team to be prepared for the new school year. Tea and coffee (and biscuits) will of course be provided. Please let the Cathedral Office know. BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY SURVEY We are conducting a survey to explore how we might engage more fully with our local communities and responses will help us to build a case that will enable us to bid for and hopefully secure capital and revenue funding to support this work. In particular, we want to refurbish our Parish Room building for our own use and to accommodate community support activities, and consider establishing a communities engagement post to further develop our work in this area. Copies of the survey form are on the sound desk along with a box for completed forms to be returned. If you could take just couple of minutes to complete the survey, we would be incredibly grateful as the more surveys we have returned the better the chance of success. The survey can also be completed online at www.bradfordcathedral.org/survey if you prefer and please do also encourage anyone else you think might be interested to complete the survey. Many thanks. Andy BRADFORD HOSPITALS CHAPLAINCY are looking for new volunteers at BRI and St Luke’s. Interviews are being held at the moment. Summer Sermon Series During the summer weeks from today through to the end of August we shall be offering a series of sermons and reflections on Sundays based on the lectionary readings. (At 8.00am / 10.15am) 14th July to 4th August The Letter to the Colossians (Chapters 1 - 3.11) 11th August to 25th August The Letter to the Hebrews (Chapters 11+12) (At 4.00pm) 14th July to 4th August Genesis (Selected stories from Chapters 32 to 50) 11th August to 25th August The Second Letter to the Corinthians ( Selected texts) You may also be interested to know that the Church of England produces a book called Reflections for Sundays with a brief commentary on the Sunday Holy Communion readings. There is one for each lectionary year - Year A is Matthew, Year B is Mark and Year C is Luke. We are in Year C currently. Details are on the Church Publishing website. CENTENARY CLEAN During the month of August, we will be giving the cathedral a deep, centenary clean and polish, in order to continue to make the cathedral sparkle. We would be delighted if anyone would like to contribute to this important task and are making two pairs of days available in August for some cleaning fellowship - they are: Friday 9th/Saturday 10th and Thursday 15th/Friday 16th. The jobs will include work inside the cathedral but also outside in the grounds. We will be pleased to provide lunch and refreshments. If you could let me know if are interested, so that I have some idea of numbers, that would be fantastic – head.verger@bradfordcathedral.org. I am away until 5th August but will be in touch on my return. TURN OF THE WHEEL ‘Turn of the Wheel’, the new Artspace exhibition is by David, our Head Verger, which opened last week. David had a life as a potter before being appointed Head Verger in July last year. This exhibition was agreed before David was appointed, so when he closed his pottery business down, in order to take up the post, he kept some pots aside especially, which have been sitting in his attic for the last year. If you would like to know more about David’s life as a potter or about the pots themselves, he would encourage you to come and find him after the service.
