EPHESUS PRAYER ​There will be a meeting in St Aidan’s Chapel at 11.45am today (Sun 24​th​) where you can learn more about Ephesus prayer. This is a group being set up to pray specifically for growth in the Cathedral. Thank you, Jane Thompson. CARERS ​Please meet again this Tuesday when they will be making a dammit doll and the following week, 5 March, they will be making Easter cards. The WEDNESDAY @​1 ​ORGAN RECITAL​ welcomes this week Edward Turner, who is the Assistant Director of Music at Derby Cathedral, although he is currently Acting Director of Music there. If you can, do come along and support him and join us for the buffet lunch beforehand at £4 from 12.30pm – 12.55pm. The recital is free, but there is a retiring collection which goes towards the organ fund. FAIRTRADE BIG BREAKFAST​ ​Sunday 3 March 8.45am – 9.45a​m. Come and enjoy a Fairtrade Breakfast – an opportunity to share fellowship with others whilst enjoying a simple breakfast of Faitrade and local food and drinks. The theme of Fairtrade Fortnight 2019 is ‘​ She deserves a Living Income’. ​This year we are asked to think especially about the women who grow cocoa in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire, the two countries in Africa that produce 60% of the world’s cocoa. Donations of £3 are requested, to cover costs and donate to the work of the Traidcraft Exchange. In order to have an idea of numbers, there is a ​sign-up sheet o ​ n the Fairtrade Stall but it isn’t essential to do so.

PANCAKE LUNCH t​ he Shrove Tuesday Pancake Lunch is on T ​ uesday 5th March​ 12 noon for 12.30pm. Have you got yours yet? If not they are available from members of the Community Committee, from the Cathedral Office or on www.bradfordcathedral.eventbrite.com​ and cost £8.50 or £4 for under 12s, with under 5s free. The pancakes will be a main course of savoury pancakes and a dessert of sweet


pancakes and afterwards there will be tea and coffee and a Cathedral Quiz.​ ​Admission is by ticket only​, get your ticket as soon as you can. Bring a friend – everyone is welcome.

THE ARCHBISOP OF CANTERBURY’S BOOK Reconciliation​ by Muthuraj Swamy​ is now available from the main office, price £9.99. MONTHLY BELL RINGING SESSIONS W ​ e are delighted to announce that we are starting a consistent bell ringing day. This will take place on the first Sunday of the month after the morning service. If you have any interest in ringing or wish to improve your ringing technique, then please come along and see Ron after these services. N.B. There is also a session this Sunday (24 Feb). EVELYN CLINTON ​a member of the congregation for many years, sadly died in Rotherham on 7 February. Her funeral will be at 11.00am, Thursday 28 Feb with cremation at Rotherham Crematorium S65 3NN followed by a service for her life at 12noon, St Peter & St Paul Church, Todwick (Lindley’s Croft, Todwick S26 1HN). All are welcome. The LENT COURSE ​this year is on ​Wednesdays 13, 20 and 27 March at 7.30pm, when we are to welcome Bishop John Pritchard, Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Leeds and author of many books. His theme for the course is ‘The Elusive God’ and in his series of three addresses he will explore how we live our faith when each day may feel like a struggle. CONFIRMATIONS Easter Eve Saturday 20th April 2019 Confirmation groups will begin at the end of February. These are a wonderful opportunity to explore more about the Christian faith, to revisit or refresh things you might have forgotten or to prepare for baptism or confirmation. Topics for exploration include, who is God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, sin and forgiveness, heaven and hell, Anglicanism, how to read the Bible and what are the sacraments. For further information or to book your place on a group please contact Canon Mandy or one of the clergy team or email i​ nfo@bradfordcathedral.org ‘EXTRAORDINARY DRAWERS! – Opening up insights into faith, culture and journey’ a​ photographic exhibition by Touchstone,​ ​which will run until 3 March is now in the North Transept. Have a look and see what people keep in their drawers – it’s quite fascinating. STATIONS OF LAMENT ​this exhibition by Louise Carr opens at our Ash Wednesday Choral Eucharist on W ​ ednesday 6 March at 7pm​ and runs until


21 April. O ​ n Monday 11 March​, Louise is to lead a pilgrimage around the Stations of Lament with our Monday Fellowship at 2pm to which everyone is invited. Do put it on your calendar and join in the pilgrimage with the Monday Fellowship group. The FAITH TRAIL r​ estarts on ​Saturday 2 March​ when five different places of worship are visited, finishing off at the Cathedral. It is always held on the first Saturday of each month and visits: St Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Leeds Road, the Abu Bakar Masjid (mosque), the Shree Lakshmi Narayan Hindu Temple, the Guru Gobind Singh Gurdwara and then the Cathedral. It is around a mile long walk from start to finish and places are limited so y ​ ou do have to book​ as the Trail is very popular. A free vegetarian lunch is served at the Gurdwara so please let Maggie Myers, the Cathedral’s Director of Education and Visitors know if you would like to go on a Trail and on which date, or telephone the Cathedral Office. NEW ELECTORAL ROLL Have you completed an Electoral Roll form yet? ​The closing date for returning the forms is getting closer, and so if you haven’t already filled in your form, please pick one up from the sound-desk at the back of the Cathedral. F ​ orms need to be in no later than 12 noon, Monday 18 March.​ Your attention is also drawn to the E ​ lectoral Roll Privacy​ ​Notice​, which we would please ask you to read. Thank you. FLOURISHING CITY​ On M ​ onday 11 March​ at 7pm, Anne-Marie Canning MBE, who is the independent chair of Bradford Opportunity Area, will be speaking here at the Cathedral. She will speak about the key priorities for Bradford, including strengthening school leadership and the quality of teaching, improving literacy and access to rewarding careers through raising aspirations and removing barriers to learning. The event is free, the doors open at 6.30pm and there will be refreshments. Tickets, which will help us to know how many people will be coming, are available on w ​ ww.bradfordcathedral.eventbrite.com MINDFULNESS for STRESS MANAGEMENT and RESILIENCE WORKSHOP​ The Workshop planned for yesterday has been rescheduled for Saturday 6 April from 2.30pm – 4pm. Details are available on ​www.bradfordcathedral.eventbrite.com A PASSION PLAY by LAMPS THEATRE​ on Monday 8 April at 7pm, will be performed in the Cathedral by a cast of three talented professional actors, who will recreate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus in a moving, memorable and ultimately joyful retelling of the Easter events.
