There will also be the self-guided Pelican Trail where children can learn about the history of Bradford Cathedral whilst searching for the pelicans throughout the building. Alongside the tour and trails there will be paper craft activities inspired by the Cathedral’s stained glass windows, and the opportunity for children to design and create their own heraldic shields. STITCHING GROUP is on Tuesday at 1pm. New people are always welcome and if you fancy helping to stitch the new kneelers why not go along and have a go? For more details please contact Jill Wright on 01535 634526 or just turn up on Tuesday. The service also marks the start of the ten days of Thy Kingdom Come. If you can, please register your interest on bradfordcathedral.churchsuite.co.uk

What is THY KINGDOM COME? Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray for more people to come to know Jesus and to help Light up the World. The Archbishop of Canterbury says: “Thy Kingdom Come is about praying for more people to know Jesus Christ. That means praying to be filled with God’s Spirit – and sent out into the world with the good news of radical, revolutionary love.” Taking place over the ten days from Ascension Day on 30 May – 9 June, there will be prayer stations around the Cathedral, open to everyone, following different areas of activity across the City and District. Find out more, and pledge to Light up the World, by visiting bradfordcathedral.org/worship/thy-kingdomcome/ The Dean ‘Visit and Pray’ Dean Jerry will mark the ten days of ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ by visiting and praying in the three Diocesan Cathedrals - Bradford, Ripon and Wakefield. He will be joined by Dean John at Ripon and Dean Simon at Wakefield and each time of prayer will conclude with Choral Evensong. Anyone is invited to join him on this pilgrimage of prayer either for part of the way or at one of the Cathedrals, where he is hoping to arrive at the following times: Wakefield Cathedral - 30th May • 3pm Bradford Cathedral - 3rd June • 3pm Ripon Cathedral - 5th June • 3pm The FAITH TRAIL takes place next Saturday 1st June. If you want to know more, pick up a leaflet from the back of the Cathedral and if you want to book a place at any of the Faith Trails, which are held on the first Saturday of the month from March to October, contact Maggie Myers through the Cathedral Office STEETON MALE VOICE CHOIR at 7pm on Saturday 1st June is delighted to welcome Clare Chorale from Northern Ireland to share their concert at the Cathedral. MESSY PENTECOST For families on Sunday 9th June, from 12:30 - 2pm. Join us for fun activities this Pentecost, with food, crafts, Bible readings, singing and more. Create your own headband of paper flames ◊ Make a fire-wand and explore the Holy Spirit tunnel ◊ Write your own prayer dove to join our flock. There is no charge, but if you could let either Canon Mandy or the Cathedral Office know that would be helpful so that we know how many people (roughly) to expect. A SEMINAR WITH BISHOP NICK BAINES, Bishop of Leeds will take place on Sunday 9 June at 2.30pm. The theme will be ‘How should Christians approach an uncertain future?’ which is particularly relevant for the troubled times in which we live where we cannot predict what lies ahead. The event is free and you can just turn up, but if you could register your interest on bradfordcathedral.eventbrite.com that would help us to have some idea of how many people to expect. The FRIENDS OF BRADFORD CATHEDRAL are visiting Leicester Cathedral, historic current home of Richard 3rd, on Monday June 10th. The cost is £25, which includes comfortable coach travel and a guided tour of the Cathedral. The Friends of Leicester Cathedral will provide afternoon tea before we join in Choral Evensong. If you are interested in joining us, application forms are at the back of the Cathedral or alternatively please contact Jill Wright on 01535 634526 or email her on jill@woodchipcomputers.co.uk CATHEDRAL FESTIVAL Saturday 15 June. In order to ensure the success of this Festival, we desperately need volunteers to act as stewards and welcomers in the Cathedral during the day. Even just an hour or so would make a difference so please would you consider if you could help, even if for just part of the day? Please let the Cathedral Office, Maggie Myers or Charlie Murray know and please DO BOOK THE DATE and invite your friends and family. BISHOP ROWAN WILLIAMS – LISTEN BACK Thank you to all those who attended the talks on Monday. You can listen back to them now online at bradfordcathedral.org/whats-on/event-listen-back/rowan-williams/ ENCOUNTER VISIT TO SUDAN Are you interested in visiting the church in Sudan and meeting our brothers and sisters in this long-standing Diocesan Link? Encounter visits have been successfully run for a number of years with small groups visiting churches, schools and other projects run by the Episcopal Church of Sudan. If you are interested in a trip which is being planned for October 2019 or are interested in exploring what a future visit would involve, please contact Rev'd Anne Russell (co-chair Sudan Link) 07528 572072 or email anne.russell@leeds.anglican.org . There is also the opportunity to meet those who went on recent encounter visits at a meeting on Sudan on June 10th, 7.30pm at St George's Church, Leeds.

CHRISTIAN AID You can still donate using the special envelopes to this year’s Christian Aid appeal to improve health facilities in Sierra Leone. Envelopes are available at the back of the Cathedral. EILEEN COSGROVE Eileen’s funeral will be held here in the Cathedral next Friday 31st May at 11am. Please continue to remember Martin and all the family in your thoughts and prayers. BRADFORD FOODBANK Foodbanks are becoming more and more a part of so many people’s lives and here is a brief update from the Bradford Foodbank which is situated just along Captain Street, a few minutes walk from the Cathedral. ‘2019 has proved a very busy year - so much so that we have got through all of our supplies for UHT milk, rice pudding, lunch sized juice cartons – so any donations would be appreciated. With your support we fed 355 people in 203 families for 3 days – or we gave 1065 days worth of food away in April. The increasing need for Foodbanks has been mentioned a lot on the media this month as Trussell Trust released national figures and we released our local figures that we fed 4747 people over the year. The T&A, Pulse Radio and BBC Radio Leeds all reported this. We are getting busier and busier but we all do it for people like Amy. One of our major joys that the majority of our 45 volunteers have been helped through Foodbank and want to give back. Amy is one of them. Amy said: I came to Foodbank because I needed a food parcel. I was living in my own property and I lost my job in August. It all got really hard, I could just about pay the bills but I couldn’t afford food as well. Foodbank was really welcoming – I wasn’t expecting to get food and a hot drink. The people were really nice and it wasn’t something I was used too. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I started volunteering at Foodbank and I have a lot of confidence and self esteem now.’‘

Bradford Foodbank is just one of many organisations helping people in the Bradford area and any help you could give them would be much appreciated. Items can be dropped off at the Cathedral as they can also for Abigail, which helps asylum seekers. Inn Churches also helps those less fortunate by providing much needed shelter and support and so please remember to keep collecting those little toiletries from any guest houses or hotels you visit over the summer as these can be used by Inn Churches when they provide overnight accommodation. All can be brought to the Cathedral. CHURCH BANK STEPS We are sorry to have to tell you that, following a recent safety inspection the Church Bank Steps have had to be closed. We know that this will be inconvenient and do apologise, but the safety of all our visitors is very important us and we have to follow the advice we have been given. The closure will be for the forseeable future and we are not able at this stage to give a date when they might reopen.
