FLOWERS The pulpit flowers today have been given by Alison and Jasmine ‘in thanksgiving for parents’ and the flowers on the font have been given by Susan Ibnouzaki and Ian Rhodes ‘in memory of their mum, Olive Rhodes, on what would have been her birthday.’ TODAY marks the start of the second week of Creationtide, which, like Lent and Advent, it is a period in the annual church calendar, and which is dedicated to worshipping God as Creator and Sustainer of all life. From 1st September to the 4th October, Christians around the world, including from the Church of England, will join together for the Season of Creation, a festival of prayer and community action to help protect the natural world. An Ecumenical initiative launched in 1989, the Season of Creation was given a major boost by Pope Francis in 2016 when, speaking before nearly 2 million people at the World Youth Day in Krakow, he declared the 1st September an annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. REARRANGED SEATING Throughout September, we are experimenting with revised seating in the nave and a nave altar, with the choir and clergy also seated in the nave. This is to discover whether or not the choir is better able to lead the congregation in singing from their revised position. Last Sunday was the first time we had tried this new arrangement and during this experimental month, we will be seeking your views on your experience. Canon Paul CHILDREN’S SPACE where children have their own special worship time in the Parish Room, has restarted. All children are welcome and they will return to join us for Communion towards the end of the service. To join with them, please meet in the children’s area at the back of the cathedral before the service begins. SILENCE SPACE will be on Monday from 1pm – 1.30pm in St Aidan’s Chapel and anyone is welcome to join in this prayerful and reflective time MONDAY FELLOWSHIP meets this week at 2pm in the Parish Room, when Mike de Villiers will be speaking. His talk will be entitled ‘Whose ECO Group?’ and everyone is welcome. There is always a talk followed by a cuppa and a biscuit, and it is a lovely time to get to know people as there is always plenty of time for a chat. Do go along and join in and enjoy an afternoon in good company. CARERS restarts this Tuesday, meeting at 10am in the Parish Room.

THE COFFEE CONCERTS begin again this Tuesday 10th September with Ida Pelliccioli on piano. Coffee and cake will be served from 10.30am and the concert, which is free, starts at 11am. All are welcome and there is a retiring collection. THE WEDNESDAY @ 1 ORGAN RECITALS also begin this Wednesday 11th September. For this first one of the season we will welcome organist Professor Martin Schmeding from Leipzig. There will be a buffet lunch for £4 from 12.30pm-12.55pm and the concert, which is free, starts at 1pm. There is a retiring collection ALPHA starts this Wednesday 11th September from 5.30pm – 7pm. The weekly session, which begins with a meal, is a relaxed and informative way to explore the Christian Faith and all are welcome. To book your place please contact the Cathedral Office, email info@bradfordcathedral.org or speak to Canon Mandy and please do tell us if you have any special dietary requirements. Any help with food and hospitality would also be much appreciated and if you can offer some time, please speak to Canon Mandy or one of the Community Committee. The NEW EXHIBITION: BY THE HAND OF … ICONS started last Wednesday and runs until 20th October. The official launch is this Wednesday 11th September, when you can ‘meet the artist’, Chris Czainski, who has been painting icons for around ten years, at 7pm, with refreshments from 6.30pm. An Icon Painting Workshop is on Friday 20 September. Book your place on Eventbrite or through the Cathedral Office. CANON BRUCE GRAINGER It is with great sadness that we have to tell you that Canon Bruce Grainger passed away suddenly, but peacefully, last Monday. Canon Bruce had a long association with Bradford Cathedral and regularly took the 10.15am Wednesday morning communion. He will be greatly missed by the cathedral and so many others. Please do keep his wife Rosemary and their family in your thoughts and prayers. BRING & SHARE LUNCH is next Sunday. If you can bring some food to share, please do, but if not please do go along as all are welcome. FRIENDS ANNUAL LUNCH is on Sunday 20th October at Oakwood Hall Hotel, Lady Lane, Bingley. Booking is essential, and if you would like to go please pick up a leaflet at the back of the cathedral. NEW EVENTS PROGRAMME Our new What’s On brochure, covering events from September to December is now available. Please pick up a copy and any extra copies for your families and friends and contacts. Your help in ‘spreading the word’ of the Cathedral would be much appreciated.

FAITH & PEACE From September Bradford Cathedral will be hosting an exhibition called Faith and Peace. This inspiring exhibition presents perspectives on peace from three Abrahamic religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The exhibition runs from the 7th– 19th September and includes a workshop on Thursday 12th from 1-3pm (repeated 6:45-8:15pm). For more information, speak to the team, visit our website or find out more in September's Keeping in Touch.

The day is nearly here, but there are still some tickets available for the concert by The Sixteen on Saturday 14th September. The performance starts at 7.30pm and the doors will be open from 6.30pm. These can be booked on bradford-cathedral.ticketlight.co.uk or by calling 0161 8321111. The Sixteen is an internationally renowned group and we are privileged to have them here at the Cathedral during our Centenary Year, when we are assured of a spectacular evening of music. Don’t miss out on what will be a wonderful event. VOLUNTEERS are also wanted to help with this event on the evening of Saturday 14th September and if you can help with ushering or hospitality roles at the event, we would love to hear from you. Please speak to any of the Cathedral staff or e-mail events@bradfordcathedral.org NATIONAL HERITAGE OPEN DAY on Sunday 15th September the Cathedral will be open from 12noon - 3pm, during which there will be much to see and do. We will be highlighting some of the local people who have played a part in our history, including the Bradford Rabble in the English Civil War, and the fascinating story of Joe Hardcastle, an ordinary Bradford man who spent 60 years as a Cathedral bell ringer. There will be the opportunity to visit the bell tower as well as guided tours at 12.30pm and 2pm giving a detailed history of the Cathedral and some of the interesting people connected. Entry is free and refreshments will be available. SPRING BULBS Thank you to those of you who have donated bulbs for our West End garden project. We are particularly wanting crocus and snowdrops to add a splash of Spring colour and the bulbs will be planted at Messy Harvest on 29th September. They can be given to Canon Mandy or the Cathedral Office. Thank you
