Initial concept sketches show the diner being turned to face the inner plaza
The idea of creating stream or river like paths that convey users in exactly the direction they wish to go is the principal concept behind this main plaza space on the Angie’s List Campus. Bands of brick paving flow across the space and create a salvaged industrial look. The diner, which serves coffee to employees, and the newly remodeled cafeteria space spill out onto this campus square, which is a great place for small informal gatherings. Across the alleyway, an outdoor room with a gas grill, string lights and shuffle board courts is meant to be a reserved space for different sales groups or general outdoor get togethers and meetings.

IGNITION PARK A great place to work and play, with a focus on sustainable site elements, Ignition Park is envisioned as a technology business park. Located in South Bend just south of downtown on a remediated brown field site, the park invites workers and visitors to enjoy shared spaces and has an urban feel. Canals connect to local trails and are the identifying element of the park.
Canals collect rain water and act as thoroughfares to the center core of the park. The canal terminus at the edge of the park is shown above.

WONDERLAND The Alice in Wonderland Garden brings the classic novel to life with whimsy and fun. Visitors can let their imaginations run wild: sliding down the rabbit hole slide, shrinking to the size of a doll, playing croquet with the queen, or simply daydreaming under a tree. The garden, like the book, serves to inspire curiosity and imagination for all.

• A green roof can increase usable space and property value, provide users with a restorative view of nature, and create habitat for birds, butterflies and insects.
Sustainability •
A green roof system increases roof life expectancy by shielding the roof membrane from weather extremes and harmful UV rays. If seeking LEED certification, one to two credits can be earned for a green roof.

The Shared Harvest Project, also know as the SHarP Garden has been a chance to for me to gain hands on experience with urban gardening and community engagement. As garden coordinator I helped design a user friendly web page and curated an instagram feed as a marketing tool. When our sign rotted , I designed and painted a new one. My duties also include recruiting and emailing gardeners about work days and other pertinent information like lost keys and weeds that need to be pulled. Installing our perennial beds and pollinator garden gave me a chance to experiment with plants and beautify our lot. Working with the community through volunteer days and with other SHarP gardeners has allowed me to share my love of plants and gardening and recognize some of the challenges that come with community garden efforts.

Notre Dame Quad The University of Notre Dame’s new east quad supports new research facilities and dormitories on the northeast corner of campus. The quad ties a total of 4 other ongoing projects together: campus utility tunnel, McCourtney Hall, two new dormitories, and a geothermal wellfield. All link to the beautifully landscaped quad that can support game day foot traffic, campus vehicles, festival tents, or a game of frisbee. Hesburgh library is framed by lush lawn and the university’s pastoral design aesthetic is evident throughout.

1. Promote Health and Fitness 2. Connect to the surrounding community 3. Restore historic buildings 4. Create economic stimulus 5. Create a fun place for a variety of users
The project began with regional and local analysis and an inventory of existing buildings. Buildings were kept based on historical significance, location on the site, and reuse potential. Buildings that remained formed a core area for activity and development on a regional sports scale. Community activities were chosen to complement the surrounding neighborhood and filled gaps in the cities parks plan.

The former home of the Central State Mental Hospital on the west side of Indianapolis is transformed into a regional and community park and sports campus. The project looked at the link between mental health and physical activity and was outlined by the following goals:

Reused buildings and the addition of a sports super center and tennis/ multi use stadium, make the core area the center of the action. Dynamic buildings and topographic forms converge to make an exciting event space. Key design elements used throughout the plan are outlined to the right:
• Buildings retrofitted with more glass for a more modern feel and a greater connection to the outdoors. • Vegetation guiding visitors to important entries and separating spaces • Buildings framing spaces and views. • Depressed or sunken sporting areas to enhance spectating and to be less obtrusive in the landscape.
suites and tennis stadium
The largest former hospital building, Seven Steeples, was demolished but the foundations remain underground. They are excavated and the resulting “rooms” are used to house memorials and mental health exhibits, basketball and squash courts, as well as play areas for children.
HEALING GARDEN This tranquil healing garden at Community South Cancer Center is anchored by a large tiered water fall and small fish pond. The garden is meant to be enjoyed by patients, visitors and staff, and provides year round interest as well as public and semi-private spaces. Parking areas are screened by a brick wall and infusion rooms look directly onto the garden.
