BGC Kawarthas Foundation President
I am pleased to be delivering my first message as Foundation Board President. When I first joined the Board, it was truly eye opening to discover the scale of services provided by the Club to children, youth and families within Kawartha Lakes. It makes the Foundation’s role so important and I am honoured to have the trust of both the Directors and the staff to lead the Foundation Board.
The mission of the BGC Kawarthas Foundation is to support the Club and its programs by obtaining the financial resources necessary to fund those services. The Foundation holds three major events during the year to support this mission and ensure programs remain affordable and accessible to anyone who would like to participate.
In June of 2023, we celebrated the 4th Anniversary of the Kawartha Lakes Youth Awards. Having been on a committee to select a winner for one of the awards I can attest to how difficult this is. The number of inspiring youth in our community make it a very difficult task. The award ceremony itself was a fantastic night celebrating the achievements of our recipients in the areas of Arts, Club Spirit, Entrepreneurship, Green, Humanitarian, Leadership, Resiliency and Physical Literacy. We also awarded the Ron Kennedy Scholarship.
The 29th annual Beukeboom Golf Tournament was held in August. The tournament was held at a new location, Black Diamond Golf Club and was a resounding success. The tournament continues to sell out and receive support from many returning and new sponsors. Jeff Beukeboom continues to champion the event on our behalf. We are looking forward to the 30th anniversary tournament in August 2024.
Our final major event for the year was the 29th Annual Dream Ball held at the Victoria Park Armouries. The event featured great food, music, dancing and socializing all while raising funds to support our community. While I was unable to attend myself, I heard that it was a great evening and a not to be missed event for 2024.

Our new strategic plan is now in place and we are making good progress on meeting the milestones and goals outlined in the plan. This will allow the Club to continue to meet the growing needs of our community and help us to expand our programming into the Peterborough market.
2023 was a very challenging year for me personally. I am very thankful for the support of all of the members of board who were patient as I navigated through my first year as President. I think we have a fantastic board all of whom bring different skills, talents and passions. I am confident we will continue to reach our goals to continue to support the Club and our community.
I would like to thank the Foundation staff, Heather McCullough and Laurie Richards. Without you, our events would very simply not run. You are the driving force behind our three major events as well as working behind the scenes with current and prospective donors. Thank-you to Jan Fattore for keeping me organized and on top of everything. Finally, I want to thank our Executive Director Amy Terrill. Your leadership and passion for the Club and those we serve is infectious. I am most grateful for your support and guidance over the last year.
Brandon Boyer, the golf tournament is a must-attend event for many of our local business leaders and community boosters. Similarly, the Dream Ball is one of the most celebrated social events of the year in Lindsay.

This year, we also began to experience growth in our Monthly Giving program spurred on by leadership from our Board of Directors. By joining the program, in addition to all their other amazing contributions, they have helped us to create a stronger pitch for others. Kudos to our own Board Chair, Laurie Charlebois, for taking this message to the Club Board in such a positive, inspiring way.
Behind the scenes, the Foundation Board continues to manage a strong investment account which serves as a valuable reserve for the Club and Foundation. In 2023, the Board issued a Request for Proposal for an Investment Advisor and after a thorough process interviewing multiple candidates, was pleased to reengage with Matt Temple of RBC Wealth Management.
We’re grateful to our new and returning donors, sponsors and partners. I’d like to acknowledge the hard work of our Foundation staff – Heather, Laurie and William – and a special shout out to our Board for championing the Foundation and Club in the community.

Thank you to our sponsors, golfers and auction donors who helped to make this year’s tournament a success! We are grateful for your support of the BGC Kawarthas Foundation.
Brandon Boyer, Lead Sponsor since 2007, had this to say, “I look forward to the event every year. It’s usually a family event for the Boyer’s; our family loves getting together with everyone for some golf and fun! That’s why the tournament relates so well with BGC. It’s all about kids and family. It’s never a question whether we’ll sponsor again each year, it’s a given. I especially enjoy seeing the improvements and additions to the club and its programs. You can see that the money is going to good use. Anytime we invest in our youth and children, it’s a good thing as they will be our next generations leaders!”
