An Increased Investment in Education and Connecting Schools and Families

As a well-established, high-quality afterschool program, we have always known the significant role our Clubs play in bridging the gap between the classroom and home. The pandemic has made it even more clear, however, that the adults in a kid’s life, need to be connected in order to best support their learning and overall success in school. In response to the many adverse effects of the pandemic on youth, we have made significant investments in education and mental health services. To support our Club members, we have increased the size of our education team, adding Education Liaisons to work alongside our Education Directors.

“Our Education Liaison at Boys & Girls of San Francisco provides support and guidance throughout the school-year, helping our students to be more successful in the classroom and giving our families with a caring and skilled support system.“ Hector Lee. Assistant Principal Longfellow Elementary School, San Francisco

Education Liaisons are responsible for:

Facilitating communication between the Club, family, and school to understand a kid's needs. Looking across the entire Clubhouse, not just the learning Center, to assess how Club staff are helping youth to achieve academically and be better connected to their school. Gathering and managing qualitative and quantitative data to build an understanding of the academic and socioemotional needs of members. Coordinating academic programs and other Club resources to meet the identified academic and socioemotional needs of youth. Collaborating with external academic partners to provide resources and opportunities for Club

members.

Supporting all Club staff through coaching and feedback.

Meet Our Education Liaisons!

Each of our Clubhouses now has an Educational Liaison who is in regular communication with teachers, families, and Club staff, to ensure that the adults are working together to help youth succeed academically. When problems arise, they are there to intervene, facilitate communication, deploy resources, and solve problems. Education Directors remain critically impotrant at the Clubhouse, holding the responsibility for running great Learning Centers.
