YOUTH LEADERSHIP & WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) introduced the newly-formed Citywide Youth Leadership & Workforce Development (YLWD) discipline in the spring of 2022. SPECIAL EVENTS

Citywide Youth of the Year Event at Chase Center

Virtual Gala Teen Panel In September 2021, BGCSF held a Virtual Gala. An important part of the program was a teen panel discussing how BGCSF and its members plan to emerge from COVID. The video highlighted three teens from the Excelsior Clubhouse, speaking about their 18-month experience during COVID. The group spoke about the importance of the Club being open during a time of such uncertainty and how the relationships between peers and staff helped them persevere.

In February, 450 guests joined in person for the 14th Annual Charles Schwab Youth of the Year Celebration at Chase Center, and 800 people joined virtually for the live stream. Together, we raised over $1M, and the youth had a tremendous experience. This was the first in-person YOY event since 2020, and eight Clubhouses were represented in the event.

Summer Youth Development Coordinator Cohort Program This year, BGCSF piloted the High School Summer Youth Development program. 11 High School graduates were recruited as temporary Youth Development Coordinators (YDCs) to support summer programming. This experience included career development and job readiness readiness training.

PAULINA BGCSF Citywide Youth of the Year, California State Youth of the Year Finalist

Paulina was an 11-year member of the Tenderloin Clubhouse, who participated in numerous core leadership programs such as Keystone and Torch Club. Over the years, they gained mentors who helped them develop their passion for art and giving back to the community. Paulina currently attends Colgate University on a full scholarship.
