Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a very good Christmas and are excited for 2023.
The beginning of a new year offers you a clean slate. You feel capable of leaving the past behind and focusing on the present. It’s almost as if you get a second chance to improve your life.
Mentally, it’s easy to convince yourself to start afresh from New Years. A New Year is a natural time for you to reflect and assess. You can look at what you have achieved in the past year in retrospect and, accordingly, make a resolution for the upcoming one.
Making a resolution represents the desire to make a positive change in your life. Whether that is to attend more classes, learn to swim, or even spend more time in the R&R area, a fresh year will drive you to make this happen and you feel hopeful and determined to succeed.
Why Invest in Personal Training?
A personal trainer will challenge you and can push you beyond your comfort zone. They will continue to challenge you as you achieve one goal, and then help to establish new ones.
It’s easy to blow off your workout or diet when you are on your own, it’s hard to maintain the intensity you need to make progressive improvement. If you have someone waiting for you, it is far more likely you will keep the appointment and continue making progress. Having a professional there can help you maintain consistent effort.
There’s a very big difference between people who do invest in personal training and those who don’t. And that difference comes down to mindset.
Those who invest in personal training generally see it as being something that adds value to their life. They see it as an investment in their wellbeing. They see it as a tool that brings them closer to being the person they aspire to be –less stressed and more calm, fit, and healthy.
Those who don’t invest in personal training generally view it as a ‘luxury’. They see it as something they’d allow themselves to have only if they had more money. They see it as an expense that would add stress to their lives, rather than focussing on all the benefits that regular exercise would give them. They get fixated on the price and fail to see the long-term benefits.
Don’t forget fitness is an investment in your health.
We have personal training sessions available from £22.00 per session!
New Guest Pass Fees
A perfect gift for a friend or family member - adults can use all the facilities, including classes that can be accessed on the day.
Please remember you must always be with your guest and be responsible for your guest, following the club rules.
Adult £17.00 Child under 16yrs £8.50
Well done to Dean Mussett who completed the North Pole Swim and was randomly picked to receive two free guest passes.
New SWIMTAG Challenge
Cairnryan to Belfast 80km starts 30th January, winner will be pick at random and will receive a swimmers goody bag.
If you still haven’t signed up to swimtag you can at reception, it’s free to all our members.
We understand other operators have taken the decision to lower water temperatures to reduce the energy cost however this is not something we are looking to do at the current time.
The R&R hot shower button has taken longer than expected to arrive due to the part only being available from Spain and the factory having a period of closure around the festive period. Whilst we haven’t had this issue previously, we have ordered a spare so that we can avoid unnecessary delays if this occurs again.
S-Drive
I have chased matrix this week regarding the new S-Drive, and we are hopeful that we should see the new S-Drive delivered within the next couple of weeks.
We are nearly ready to launch Myzone into the club. Myzone is an innovative wearable heart rate-based system that uses wireless and cloud technology to accurately monitor your physical activity. Simply strap on the belt during a workout and it monitors your heart rate, calories burned, and time exercising. It converts these into Myzone Effort Points (MEPs) – so the focus is on effort rather than fitness, giving you a more accurate view of how effective your session has been.
We will be adding new Myzone 20 –30-minute gym floor classes which will be a mix of core, kettlebells & HIIT classes and much more. New classes will be starting at the end of January.
Watches will go on sale soon from our reception team.
General Update
I would like to take this opportunity to rebuff a rumour I have heard and reassure you all that the pool temperature will remain at 29°.
I hope you are all enjoying the new CV equipment already on the gym floor, I know personally I am loving the S-force. If you have not tried them or need some help in learning how they work, please do not hesitate to talk to a member of the gym team who will be happy to help.
Lost Property
Due to the large amount of lost property being left in the club, lost property will now only be kept for one month. Please see reception to reclaim property you think you may have left.

Lisa
The timetable was quiet in December due to the weather conditions and the Christmas period, but we are looking forward to January and February being busy with everyone kick-starting their New Year resolutions.
For January we’ve add two new classes, one for families and a children’s class.
Creative Dance with Marnie
Learn new dances or make up your own choreography. The class includes games and fun themes to move to. This class is for 7 - 12 years, starting Wednesday 11th January 16.30 – 17.30.
Family Zumba with Zoe
Family Zumba will be for 5 - 12 years with parents. Kid-friendly routines based on the original Zumba class, with games and activities. These classes are a fantastic way to get children into fitness, have fun and make new friends along the way.
Starting Thursday 12th January 16.00 –17.00.
Late Attendance
Please make sure you arrive to your class on time, by doing so you’ll minimise disruption to the class which is already in progress. If you are late your place may go to a member who is on the waiting list.
Instructors have the right to refuse entry to the class after the warm-up has begun. Please remember to cancel your class if you are unable to attend. You can cancel a class up to an hour before the class starts on the Elite Live app, to do this you’ll need to go into booking history, find the class, and then click on the ‘bin’ icon to delete your booking.
No shows are being monitored and you may lose your right to pre-book classes in advance for repeat offenders.
Supporting Classes
In November we added 4 new classes, and they are a fantastic addition to your current workout routine or to try something new. Please see timetable for more information.
Final Note
I would like to thank you for your support and if you have any questions or suggestions, you can find me in the gym or contact me via email on, l.dicketts@birchwoodparkgc.co.uk
Have a great month and I will catch up with you all soon.
