Burhill Newsletter Junior End of Season Highlights 18th September 2022 The last 2 months have seen some incredible performances by our amazing Juniors which we Surrey Boys Handicap wanted to share with you. We don’t often go out to Knockout 2022 everyone when we celebrate the many successes of our Junior section but felt this was so extraordinary (U18’s with handicap of 5 and over) it warranted a special communication.

Finlay Fergusson runner up We also wanted to thank all the Burhill members at Walton Heath to and Burhill Group who contribute annually to Jake Platt of Farnham losing our Junior Development Programme which 2&1 in a hard fought battle . supports all of these activities and promotes the development of golf (and life) skills in young Finlay Jake Fergusson Platt people. We hope you are as proud as we are in their achievements, they are a credit to Burhill wherever they go and we hope you enjoy reading about what they have been doing over the last few 25th September 2022 JTG Regional Semi-final Qualifiers weeks.

Played at Goodwood GC in incredibly hard 14th August 2022 conditions with gale force winds and tough pin Guildford league Finals positions saw home club Goodwood put in the Burhill team (below – but not happy!) finish second winning score, but Burhill team stayed focussed to Windlesham by 3 shots, but qualify for Junior and ground out second place, to secure the Team Golf Home Nations regional qualifiers. remaining space in the England Regional Finals.

23rd October 2022 Surrey Rookie league U18 & U14 Semi-finals.

Both of our teams qualified for the semi-final stages of the Surrey, 4 ball better ball match play competition.

This event had 2 historical firsts for the competition. All 4 semi-finals were tied after the 2 matches and went to sudden death playoffs was one. In our U14s against Wentworth, Grace Taylor made a net Birdie on the second hole playoff to secure our place in the finals. In the U18s against Foxhills, Sean Jacoby hit his drive 306, just short of the green and then proceeded to chip in for a gross eagle and a stunning playoff victory, which meant both Burhill teams qualified for the final, which was the other first in the competition, that one golf club had made the finals of both the U14s and U18s.

25th – 27th October 2022 Junior Team Golf England Finals – Portal Championship GC, Tarporley.

The England finals were held consisting of the 8 English teams qualifying from 5 regions across the country being Burhill, Goodwood, Saunton, West Derby, Bramshaw, Thirsk & Northallerton, Overstone Park and Tadmarton Heath.

The format is one gross score and best 4 net medal scores from 5 to give a combined team score.

It was an early start with team photos and TV interviews followed by the main event. In tough conditions for all, Freddie came in scratch for his round, followed by James playing to handicap, Aaron 6 over and Thierry 5 over, before Finlay came in with a clutch 1 under handicap.

It was then the long wait knowing that Goodwood had been outstanding again and there was only one space left to qualify for the Home Nations Inter-Club Championship finals against Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

As ever, every shot counts and we managed to finish second in the England finals by 2 shots and secure our place in the grand finals.

Aaron Moody Winners Surrey Boys Handicap Knockout 2022, Under 5 Handicap

28th October 2022 Final Christine Bond Knockout trophy Hard fought final of the Burhill Junior knockout Aaron triumphed at Hankley common to beat competition with Aaron finally triumphing Reggie Fear of Wentworth - 3&2 to a 2 up win.

stunning 30-foot putt from Harry to halve the hole kept our lead. The 17th was a 165-yard par 3 which was advantage Burhill after Harry put his shot to 10 feet, but then Filip hit a stunning tee shot right over the flag to spin back 5 feet to 3 inches from the hole, Camberley were unable to make a birdie and a great 2&1 victory forced a playoff.

With our 1st pair playoff specialists, it seemed in the bag, but it was advantage Camberley with 2 players on the green to our 1. All misses until Sean Jacoby slotted in a 15-footer for birdie and the crowd went wild, Burhill now double champions (and Sean 3 under par on the 1st hole in playoffs !!)

The first time a double by any club has been done was even sweeter with fellow Burhill member Terry Casey (oh and Surrey President) presenting the awards and trophies - a great day for the Burhill Juniors.

29th October 2022 Surrey Boys Handicap Knockout 2022 (U18’s with handicap of 5 and below) Aaron triumphed at Hankley common to beat competition with Aaron finally triumphing Reggie Fear of Wentworth - 3&2 13th November 2022 Surrey Rookie league U18 & U14 Finals The delayed finals of the Rookie league at Milford Golf Club.

Both teams were quietly confident after their semi-finals victory but know how tight the four ball better ball format can be!!

The U14s team were playing Walton Heath and giving away some serious strokes (23 from Aaron and 20 from Finlay), but both pairs were fully focused on their own games and to say they were on fire would be an understatement, resulting in a 5&4 win for Aaron and Grace and 7&5 win for Finlay and Ben to become U14 champions.

The U18s were playing Camberley Heath with strokes fairly even. The first pair of Sean and Max were on the receiving end of some great play from Camberley with their team having 3 chip-ins and an eagle to be 5 up after 10 holes, our pair managed to hold from there for a 5&4 loss. Our Second pair needed to win to force a play-off and it was ultra-tight all the way with Burhill, 1 up on 15.
