AN UPDATE FROM...
Theresa Plimmer General ManagerDear members, Happy New Year, for those that I haven’t seen yet in 2023!
I have a few things to let you know, details of the AGM, course conditions and work, and much more.
I am looking forward to a successful and happy 2023 with our fantastic members. Thank you for your continued support. For me, it’s the members that make my job fun!
TheresaThe BIG Freeze - Theresa’s Sleep Out
I wanted to thank every one of you that supported us for our Charity Sleep Out. To everyone who sponsored us, and those who brought up clothes and sleeping bags for the homeless, it was greatly appreciated.
In particular, I wanted to express my personal thanks to Mark Northern, Sachin Kanaiya, Johnny Hilton and Dene Parsons who braved the cold and loneliness with me!
Once all the pledges have come in, it looks like we will hit the £4,000 mark with the fantastic team at BGL pledging an additional 5% of anything I raise.
Emmanuel House in Nottingham has seen the highest ever spike in Nottinghamshire homelessness and this money will help them hugely.
Annual General Meeting – All Are Welcome
Tuesday 7th February
Come and join us at the AGM on Tuesday 7th February at 7pm. This is a great opportunity to have your say at the club.
You will also have access to the committee, myself and our Course Manager Johnny. We are constantly striving to improve our members’ experience.
Member Feedback
Back in November we were invited to the TRP Annual Awards.
TRP is the team that powers the survey that you occasionally see in your inboxes.
Based on our members’ feedback, and compared to other clubs up and down the country (golf, health and fitness and others), Ramsdale Park won the overall Member Experience award. We were absolutely delighted, and proud that we have provided a fantastic experience to our members!
We love that we are now getting more scores of 9 and 10 – and it’s great to see members providing feedback and ideas too.
The majority of our improvements have come from your ideas - just last week we had a member suggest opening the back nine when front 9 competitions are on – so more members can get on the course, something that we hadn’t considered before!
rapid defrost on a couple of occasions. When this happens, the top inch or two of the green is completed defrosted, and looks playable.
However, below 2 inches the greens are frozen solid. Water collects on the top, and had we had footfall it could easily have damaged the greens.
Your patience means that we will have a fantastically conditioned course come the summer.
New 1st Hole Path
Work is now finished on the path on the first tee with a new drain. It looks great and there are now no scruffy edges and puddles to wade through – good news!
Steps to the 6th Tee
We understand there have been some concerns and comments regarding the new steps on the 6th tee. Climbing up the bank even in dry conditions was difficult. The new steps are not finished yet, but will look great once they are done.
The steps will be finished off with Astro, so they won’t be left as bare sleepers, which could get slippery. I would politely urge anyone who has expressed concerns to the committee to please come to me. I am always open to ideas and happy to answer concerns.
Course Update
The weather has not been kind to us so far this year. I have had to close the course on a couple of occasions, owing to rapid frost and defrost.
This year we’ve seen an extreme freeze to a
Path Between the 1st Green and 2nd Tee
Work on this path was due to start last week, however due to the freezing weather, it has been delayed.
Next week, with the warmer temperatures, we will start work, and Dave and the team will be digging up the path, doming it, and packing it down. Stay tuned!
Greens
When the team are back from their trip to Harrogate where they talk all things ‘turf’, they will be starting to aerate the greens.
They will be using a cool piece of kit, called the Air2G2, which you may have seen last summer.
Green Sanding
The final week of February will see some hole closures while we work on the greens. We will be hollow coring, sanding and brushing.
The machine pokes pipes into the green, then blows a big puff of air. You can literally see the carpet of the green bounce up!
Additionally, in February, the team will be completing a lot of tree-related work. Assessing the older trees after the rough weather and making sure they are all safe.
Subsequently, low-hanging branches will be removed. The team will also be sorting out the hedging on the 4th tee.
It will be a little inconvenient but the benefits of this aeration are well worth it in the long run.
