Supplier Issues / Cost Increases Apologies to you all for the most recent issues we have been experiencing with stock/supplier issues. This is becoming an ever increasing problem and we do understand the frustrations you have when your favourite tipple is not available at the bar. Rest assured we are placing the orders well in advance however we are limited to what we can have in terms of quantity and we wouldn’t be aware of the shortages until the delivery actually arrives. For example our Heineken delivery didn’t show at all a few weeks ago and so luckily Kate had ordered as much as possible the week before. We hope this improves as we move into the busy wedding and golf season In terms of costs we are experiencing unprecedented supplier costs and inflation rates. As a business we are far from immune to this. I hope you can appreciate for us to offer the same level of customer service and quality product we have to pass an element of this on to members and visitors. Please don’t forget to utilise the 10% member discount with your levy card. We have recently carried out a price comparison with competitors and we are still very well positioned in the market with like for like competitors.
Staff Updates As discussed at the AGM we are now pressing on with recruitment and I’m delighted to announce we have increased our greenkeeping team by two. We welcome Kevin who is our new mechanic/greenkeeper. We have invested in this position to enable the equipment to be maintained to a hirer standard and fix breakdowns more efficiently to enable equipment to be out on the course longer increasing productivity.
WELCOME TO THE TEAM KEVIN We also welcome Antony. Antony is our new full time greenkeeper and his background is many years preparing the training pitches and stadium pitch at Wolverhampton Wanderers. He will start with us mid-May. Employee of the Quarter Sam Clarke our F&B Assistant Manager has been nominated by the management team and colleagues as our employee of Q1. Sam has taken on additional responsibility with her recent promotion within the business, looking after weddings and events and also heading up Sunday Lunch. Congrats Sam!
EMPLOYEE OF THE QUARTER
WELL DONE SAM CLARKE
County books and club diaries County books and club diaries are now available from the golf shop. Midland Schools Golf Championship We are delighted to announce we have been chosen as host venue for the Midland Schools Golf Championship on Friday 3rd June. The competition has the best young players from the midlands competing over 27 holes with qualification to the grand final. They will be playing 9 holes from 10am and then 18 holes from 1pm so there will still be plenty of tee times for members.
Course Manager Update – Ivan Beetlestone Spring is well and truly here and I’d like to share the following progress/projects made out on the golf courses in preparation for the main season ahead: - Spring greens maintenance has been completed 3 weeks ahead of our normal schedule - All tees have been fertilised and prayed for weeds - Fairways have been aerated and in the process of applying weed control – selective herb - Four greenside bunkers have been renovated with additional sand and drainage - Extra rakes have been ordered and we are replacing with plastic handles as we go - New pins have been ordered and we are changing to the ones with narrower stems as evidence suggests it speeds up play. - On the 4th on the silver we are installing a new path from tee to the fairway and drainage ditch, as this was a particularly wet area last winter. - We have now ordered two new pieces of equipment for the golf course. We are still waiting on the banking’s mower from last year to be delivered, and the new fairway mower has been ordered this month. Possibly a 2023 delivery date due to worldwide shortages of parts etc. investment of approximately £100,000 by BGL which is fantastic for us. - We are completing our Health and Safety tree audit work whereby we may have to remove the odd tree but we are replacing with new trees as we go - We are waiting on a new irrigation pump due to a breakdown so if you see myself or the team out on the course with the irrigation on please be patient as we are having to manually operate - New 100, 150 and 200 fairway yardage discs have been introduced with a few on back order. The majority of the new 100, 150 and 200 discs have been installed. We will complete the project when the final delivery of discs arrive in the next 2-3 weeks.
