HEEPWASH Creek in Strathfieldsaye was the place to be for St Francis of the Fields Primary School students last week to coincide with National Tree Day. The community tree planting day, was once again funded through the ongoing generosity of Villawood Properties with help from the Mandurang Strathfieldsaye Landcare Network and Strathfieldsaye Lions Club. Villawood Properties regional general manager Julian Perez said there was nothing like the sound of enthusiastic children as students descended along the creek with tube stock and trowels in hand. “I’m out at our Imagine Estate constantly and see the results firsthand of our commitment to a more sustainable environment,” Mr Perez said. “Our continual investment and participation in these now annual tree plantings really brings the Strathfieldsaye commu-

nity together.” Villawood Properties have now directly funded and assisted with the removal of noxious weeds and planting of approximately 8000 indigenous plants along Strathfieldsaye’s Sheepwash and Emu creeks since 2015. Mandurang Strathfieldsaye Landcare Network’s Ben Kroker said this year’s 1500 indigenous grasses and sedges planted will be a significant factor in the continual improvement of the natural habitat between the school and surrounding development, while improving the creeks’ water quality.
